Buckden Camping

4.7 (90 reviews)

Just off the Dales Way, against a backdrop of steep, untamed hillside and within sight of the River Wharfe in its infancy as it winds down through picturesque limestone scenery. Dotted by ancient stone barns and drystone walls, this simple site is a perfect place to pitch up and revel in the glory of Wharfedale. A Certified Caravan & Camping Club site.

At the heart of picturesque Upper Wharfedale, not far from the source of the river, our working farm in the village of Buckden is owned by the National Trust and has been tenanted by us, Garry and Gillian Schofield, since 1994.

We provide camping at two locations around the farmhouse hub facilities; a Certified Location Caravan & Camping Club site with hard standing for five units accessed through the Yorkshire Dales National Park Car Park, meadowland tent pitches close to the river Wharfe and Dales Way footpath behind the farmhouse, and four comfortable, heated family Camping Pods.

With stunning walks to take your breath away, we promise you fresh air and fun. Waterfalls, limestone wonders, secluded ghylls are on hand along with a host of tourist attractions to visit within easy driving distance, so there is always plenty to see and do.

Our separate heated shower pod and pot wash area comes with a power shower and 2 w/c’s. There is further w/c, shower and pot wash facility available in the farm yard along side our camping kitchen which provides a fridge, freezer and kettle for your use.

Introducing our heated camping pods - No more flapping guy ropes and crawling under wet canvas, this is glamping! Each pod sleeps up to 5 people, for the ultimate in easy camping. Spacious and secure, the pods are insulated wooden huts which provide warm and cosy accommodation whatever the weather. The roofing material is designed to eliminate noise and enhanced by natural sheep wool insulation, it ensures the pod is warm in cold weather and cool when it gets hot!

Just bring what you’d normally bring for camping – except the tent! Cook outside* and enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner on the decking while you admire the fabulous view and enjoy the glory of the dale around you.

Our two acre site with a gentle slope offers five pitches suitable for Camper Vans and we can also take two caravans, all with electric hook-ups.

In a stunning setting at the bottom of a picturesque ghyll walk, this simple site is a haven for anyone wanting to escape the hurly burly of town or suburb life and get close to nature. The surrounding hills are breath-taking and this spot is your springboard to exploring a world that is truly unspoilt by the passage of time. (You do need to be a Camping & Caravan Club member to camp on this part of the site, but you can always join through us when you arrive for your stay)

Warm comfortable camping pods in beautiful l8cation

Legg, Dee - 07/11/2025

This is our second stay in Buckden with Buckden camping, the first in our tent in the camping field and this time in the pods behind the farm house. Our pod was warm on arrival, clean with water in the kettle for that first cuppa after we unpacked. The toilet, shower and washing up area are all close to hand and clean and we were able to settle into our break quickly. The bed/benches were comfortable to sleep on and the little fridge was great. The area is beautiful and so dark at night. Unfortunately the local pub was closed but we ate out at the next village and were able to join in on a quiz night at the local village institute - check out their noticeboard, to the left of the pub. We really enjoyed walking and just chilling in our comfy pod - and as it rained all day on our departure we were pleased to not have to pack up a wet tent.

Perfect location, excellent facilities

Dixson, Phillipa - 06/11/2025

We've stayed here before and would come back again and again. The location at the foot of the Pike, with beautiful views across the valleys is sublime. It's also between two lovely pubs; the George at Hubberholme and the Fox at Starbotton, both within a 45 minute walk, both serving great food and both dog-friendly. The pods are simply but thoughtfully equipped, with places to hang your stuff and under bed storage. Comfortable sleeping platform with loads of room. The heater keeps it cosy even in the cooler season. The toilet and shower facilities are spotless. The shower is one of the best I have experienced in a campsite. We are always made welcome and feel relaxed as soon as we arrive. Can't recommend enough.

Relaxed, well-equipped, peaceful camp

Pickles, Andy - 30/10/2025

Flexible arrival time (parking up before pitching up later) was very handy. Information around camp was all clear & easy to find the well-equipped, clean facilities. I didn’t actually meet the owners during my stay but I communicated by text with Gill which worked fine. Sometimes campsites have owners who are too “in your face” rather than just letting you crack on, so I liked that a lot. Wheelbarrows are a lovely touch. No complaints with facilities (great campsite shower!)

Awful Weather!

Reid, Rose - 08/10/2025

We had booked two nights camping however arrived in the grip of Storm Amy. The good people at Buckden let us have their one remaining pod and would not take any extra money for this. They truly felt like life savers!!! Such lovely helpful people . We were truly thankful for their kindness.

Rainy day in the Shire

Little, Robert - 22/09/2025

We stayed at Bucken camping (farm), we've been before but this time we Stayed in a Pod. It was definitely the best choice as the weather was very wet. We were warm and had plenty of space. We didn't see the owners but we took that as a trust sign. The facilities were as described as as the site wasn't very busy we never had to wait to use them. The only thing that I wasn't happy with is that some of the lights in the shower Pod were out the whole stay , which meant that I had to shave in semi darkness. This is a small grumble as this is a wonderful site with caring owner/managers and I would come back time and time again.

Perfect place to stay, very welcoming!

Murray, Tom - 17/09/2025

I had a great stay with my 6 year old son. The information shared prior to arrival, greeting on arrival and facilities on site were all perfect and combined with the setting and scenery all led to a fantastic couple of days. I will be back for sure to explore more of the area and enjoy the site and those who spend time here.
