We warmly welcome you to The Royal Oak, a charming country pub and the perfect base for exploring the delights of the southern Peak District.
The Royal Oak's open fires and hidden corners are a welcoming sight for all tired walkers craving a well earned pint, families on a day out in search of a friendly haven or 'Foodies' after some great homemade dishes. Proper food, generous portions and sensible prices are what make The Royal Oak so special.
We take great pride in offering a very traditional style of hospitality complete with cosy pub atmosphere, good company, cask-conditioned ales, a fine selection of wines and a menu of hearty English pub food. Open every day from 12 noon until 9pm means you can sit back and enjoy the unique atmosphere at 'The Oak' anytime.
For those who'd like to linger longer, the choice of camping accommodation is available.
The Royal Oak camping grounds are situated to the rear of the pub. The picturesque campsite has 20 pitches on two levels with direct access to the Tissington and High Peak Trail. Access to the camping field is via a standard five-bar gate. The campsite has a unisex toilet and shower block with inside and outside washing up facilities - please note there is no electric hook up or hard core standing.
Please note we do not allow motorhomes we only accept small camper-vans. Nothing larger than a VW camper will be admitted on to the site as we cannot guarantee access due to weather conditions. On bank holiday weekends we do have a minimum stay of 3 nights.
We only accept small campervans up to 5.3m.
Hardstanding pitch in our campsite car park. Car park on a slight gradient so would recommend bringing levellers. We do have some wood onsite which you are welcome to use to help level your campervan.
During our low season (Nov - Mar) we operate on limited pitches and facilities.
Maximum 1 tent per pitch. No vehicles to be parked on the pitch - cars must be left in the car park.

Booked on the day, great pitch, amazing price, fantastic pub everyone really helpful and delicious food. Will be going back. Highly recommend.
This is the second time I have stayed at this site and it is a real gem. Its clean, amenities are good and it has a wonderful country pub on site - what more do you need. Dog and child friendly. Staff are lovely. There is the high peak trail on the back of this site and you are close to Buxton. The sister site Bull in thorn is across the road and is also a lovely site I have stayed at. It is a short but fun walk across a field to get to. Down the road from the bull in thorn is Monyash - a cute little village with a great cafe and pub in. And up the road from that is Tag lane dairy - the most amazing Jersey cow ice cream and milkshakes. I truly love this place and would highly recommend to anyone :)
Fantastic campsite, very clean facilities and the pitches were flat. The pub was outstanding. Only one gripe is that there were a lot of bugs in the toilet/shower blocks, especially at night - daddy longlegs, mosquitos and tiny flys that kept buzzing around whilst having an end of day hot shower or cleaning teeth before bed time. I think this may have been due to one of the fly nets not being shut properly though. Other than that - was perfect.
Pub was really nice - the campsite was pretty muddy ans expensive
only been there for one night never had time to travel around. but have done befor and it is great for the outdoors adventures will be back. again
Fantastic location and a pub that serves outstanding food...however in a review I made in 2023, I pointed out that the showers are tepid and the steps down to the lower field are slippy in the wet and need the chicken wire replacing. I received apologies and promises that this would be looked into but unfortunately nothing has changed.
Great food, great staff and good location
Great priced pitches, toilets and showers are clean, great place for walking as it is on the Tissington Trail plus there is a public footpath to another pub that has sports on the TV and pool tables. Lovely food at the pub, but a booking is essential as it's very busy but also dog friendly. This is our second stay, would recommend for a night away.
We love this campsite. It’s small and friendly and a great location for walking and exploring.
