The Oaks lakes at Sessay in North Yorkshire is home to lakes for both match and pleasure fishing. The lakes originally opened in 1994 starting with the Willows lake and over the years it has steadily grown. We currently have 10 lakes with over 400 Pegs, a large café, tackle shop and this year we will be opening a caravan Park in a quiet corner of the lakes so that everyone can come and enjoy the North's most well-known fishing complex.
The 4-acre field is rectangular with a mature wood running along the North West side providing shelter and privacy from the fishing lakes, the North east side faces the Hambleton Hills and the white horse.
A small peaceful, adults only, touring caravan park with supersized hard standing pitches all with their own electrical hook-up, situated in a quiet corner of the fishery but with easy access to the lakes and facilities. Next door to the tackle shop is the Oaks Lakes Cafe which is open everyday, serving cooked breakfasts, bacon sandwiches, panini's, soups, homemade cakes, ice creams and hot and cold drinks.
The Oaks Lakes sit to the North end of the village and are screened with woodland and hedges there are 10 fishing lakes used for many course fishing competitions and featured regularly in the leading angling magazines. The whole area teams with places to go, whether you want to Walk, Cycle or Drive there is plenty to do here is a few: 18 miles away is the ancient walled City of York straight down the A19 approx 35 Minutes. 3 miles will take you to the market town of Thirsk, with its interesting James Herriott Museum. Castle Howard sits thirteen miles from us in the pretty market town of Helmsley.
All pitches are level, supersized hardstanding approx 14m x 12m wide.

Excellent site, well looked after and exactly as described! Close to the areas we wanted to visit, this is a great site to explore this part of Yorkshire. The facilities were spotless all the time, and always well stocked.A great price too which made the stay good value. From a caravan point of view, it would have been good to be able to hook up the water supply. But this was not a deal breaker! Will definitely book again when visiting this area 👍🏻
Lovely peaceful site with very clean toilet and shower block.pitches are spacious and level.Good fishing and you can park beside most fishing pegs/platforms.We had a short drive into Thirsk most days for tea which was nice. Excellent well stocked tackle shop on site and also a cafe.Booked for 4 nights but booked an extra night as we enjoyed our stay. Will definitely be returning.
Love this place husband fishes and I sightsee beautiful Thirsk and Northallerton had a relaxing time
We really enjoyed our stay at The Oaks Camping & Fishing and will definitely be returning. The fishing was challenging but this was more down to the current weather systems we have been having during June and July. The site was clean and the grounds well maintained. For improvements I’d like to see water points at the hard standing pitches, also the EHU upgraded to 16amp.The 10amp they have at the moment just doesn’t handle today’s modern caravans. We found ourselves having to reset the trips a few times. The rubbish area could do with an increased capacity plus bin for recycling. They had one for cardboard and one for general waste. It was nice to find that the showers had temperature adjustable controls along with water saving push button showers. The staff and owners were really friendly and helpful.Very well stocked fishing tackle shop for top up items and baits. Or if you just fancy upgrading your kit.Looking forward to seeing you guys soon
We have stayed on the site previously and found this time that the cleanliness of the facilities was poor. Bins in Ladies toilet not emptied, toilet seats not secure, showers not clean. Men's toilet bins overflowing, no soap. showers could have been cleaner. We love the position of the site it is good value for money. Café is very good as is the surrounding area but the lack of cleanliness on this visit was off putting.
Nice to have a level and spacious pitch and a nice location. Down side was the toilet and shower block which were grubby and unkept. Stayed for 7 night's and only once where they cleaned, may have been cleaned more times but not to any great detail. Ladies shower never ran consistently hot (hot then cold). Gents showers had the same problem but not as bad. More water ran over the top of the shower than down the drain. Needs to have an complete overhaul along with a good daily clean. This didn't impact our holiday as I came for the fishing which was good and when not fishing out and about the lovely Yorkshire country side and villages. On site caffe and bait shop very good and more than reasonably priced. No complaints regarding the owner and the staff who were very friendly and very helpful. Just a bit more effort needs to be put into the caravan park and all will be good.
Really nice, clean and tidy campsite friendly staff
A clean and tidy campsite site but in need of an upgrade, if the site was full the facilities would not be able to cope, staff are all helpful and the fishing is fishing, more signage would help and the cafe needs to stay open later, As the site is quite far from any shops it would be a good idea for the site to hold a limited stock (long-life milk and other long-lasting items ) the site is adults only and that's for me but I do think there is enough room away from the lakes to make a play area for children, I think opening this site to families would bring it to life , All in all a good site but could be so much better and has a lot of potential
Great area for fishing. Pretty, peaceful and plenty of space. We biked into Thirsk, roughly 6 miles on our electric bikes. Great little town.
