The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite.
Camping and Glamping in Yorkshire – you will LOVE it here…
…if you appreciate nature and peacefulness off the beaten track…
…if you want to toast marshmallows on an open campfire whilst gazing at a sky laden with stars...
…if you want time to yourself to read your favourite book or watch the Kingfishers and the Otters.
The Hideaway, Baxby Manor is a special, peaceful and restful place where you can spend precious days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A haven for walkers and cyclists, and a perfect base for exploring the many historic, cultural and outdoor attractions of this lovely part of Yorkshire. We are about camping, campfires, the countryside and getting away from it all.
Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine.
Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!
There is parking for up to four cars per booking, due to parking space restrictions please contact us if you intend to come in more than four cars.
NB Due to our abundant wildlife habitats please keep noise to a minimum after 10pm, especially if out on the veranda and in the Hot-Tub.

All reviews featured on Campstead.com have been submitted by genuine customers who have stayed at the park.
As soon as we pulled up, we instantly felt relaxed. The whole aura of The Hideaway brings peace, quiet and a tranquil environment. We stayed with some friends who instantly fell in love with it as much as we do. There is everything you possibly need in the kabinas and the beds are so comfortable. The firepit was enjoyed at nighttime and the kids loved making s’mores! My only very slight negative point is the amount of flies. Maybe the kabinas (and higher houses) would benefit from fly screens / nets by the doors. We already have our return booked for the end of the month and are very much looking forward to it. The pizza shack was wonderful too and the pizzas are delicious. Thank you all for an another wonderful weekend at The Hideaway.
After multiple visits to the Hideaway in tents we tried the Hoglet House this time (BT3) for our latest visit. What a great alternative with everything you need and nice privacy as well. A fantastic 3 day stay with my wife and as always brilliant facilities and service at the site. Great location to explore the surrounding Yorkshire countryside and beyond. We will be back for sure 👍
When I arrived at the campsite, I was impressed with the setup and location as I wanted something quite remote and quiet. For this reason I had booked The Sanctuary at Baxby Manor as it was an adult only area. Check-in was quick and seamless. I was told about all the facilities and guided to the parking area for The Sanctuary. Unfortunately, when I arrived at the entrance to the adult only area it looked very unfinished and had a ramshackled workshop that was a bit of an eyesore. I say it looked unfinished as other areas onsite had a nice boardwalk to guide you around whereas this was a load of mud and fallen branches. I ultimately decided to change from The Sanctuary to another pitch on the campsite. The receptionist was accommodating and friendly throughout. The food options were delicious. The bathrooms were clean and modern; however, be aware that the showers are push button and only last for 3 seconds which can be annoying. The free roaming chickens were a lot of fun.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We’re delighted you enjoyed the location, found our team welcoming, appreciated the food, and liked our facilities and free-roaming chickens. We would just like to clarify one point for future guests. When you arrived, due to the recent thunderstorm you asked to move from your original pitch in The Sanctuary, and Bex was happy to offer a selection of alternative pitches, from which you chose Pitch T12 on the main campsite. The comments regarding the Roundhouse were not raised with us during your stay, so we were sorry to read them afterwards. The Roundhouse is an exciting new venue currently being completed as part of our ongoing investment in Baxby Manor. Once finished, it will host intimate winter weddings, wellness experiences and special events, and we look forward to welcoming guests to enjoy it.Thank you again for your feedback, and we’re pleased there were many aspects of your stay that you enjoyed.
We came away relaxed and very happy with our weekend it's the best campsite ever, the local pub plum and partridge is beautiful too
Nice site pizzas were beautiful toilets nice and clean would defo return
Fantastic peaceful location, the pitches are large and because of the trees and plants they do not feel overlooked by other pitches. Facilities are big and clean, shop and pizza van are a welcome bonus. You can tell that the owners and staff very much take pride in their campsite, keeping it natural and wildlife friendly whilst practical and comfortable.
Cleanest toilet/shower block ever! Beautiful site, really tranquil. The pizzas and breakfasts are so tasty and being able to buy the wood you need for their fire pits is great so you don’t need to try and fit it in the car. I love this place!
We booked this trip to cleanse our minds from the repetition of every day life, whilst being surrounded by nature and tranquility. Baxby Manor did not disappoint it was the perfect location, just beautiful, hidden away from hustle and bustle of life. We stayed in a Kabina which was lovely, we couldn’t have asked for better it was perfect. The hot tub was amazing and being able to relax and just listen to nature was perfect. We had a little chicken who visited us a few times which was lovely and lots of wild bunnies were seen. We had pizza from the pizza shack which was absolutely gorgeous followed by churros and a chocolate dip again these were fantastic. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants to unwind and take in nature. Also the Honey we bought home from Baxby Manor is yummy.
The site was nice and quiet with clean toilets and showers with a pub in the village serving good food just a ten minute walk away. Ideally situated for the places we wanted to visit, we would definitely stay again and recommend.
What an incredible find, totally relaxing well thought out little piece of heaven.
