The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite.

Camping and Glamping in Yorkshire – you will LOVE it here…

…if you appreciate nature and peacefulness off the beaten track…

…if you want to toast marshmallows on an open campfire whilst gazing at a sky laden with stars...

…if you want time to yourself to read your favourite book or watch the Kingfishers and the Otters.

Rufus's Roost Treehouse (strictly no pets)

  • Sleeps 6
  • 3 bedrooms

Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine.

Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!

There is parking for up to four cars per booking, due to parking space restrictions please contact us if you intend to come in more than four cars.

NB Due to our abundant wildlife habitats please keep noise to a minimum after 10pm, especially if out on the veranda and in the Hot-Tub.

Great facilities in a place filled with wildlife

Malin, Bee - 17/07/2024

The hideaway has possibly some of the best facilities we've seen. The bathrooms were beautiful. It was very rainy the week we stayed so I particularly appreciated the washing up being inside and we made good use of the warm drying room to hang our soggy clothes & towels. The site itself is lovely with lots of wildlife and wildflowers. On site we saw several bunnies, pheasants and even a deer. We heard the foxes roaming in the evening. We stayed in The Sanctuary - the adults only section at the back of the site. It was about a 2 minute walk to the bathroom from here. The privacy was much appreciated on the brink of the summer holidays. Enjoyed having a fire pit at no additional cost. The quiet of the space was slightly ruined by the runway that runs parallel to the site. Whilst I'm sure many will enjoy the small planes frequently flying over, I quickly got irritated by the constant sound of planes interrupting the birds.

Great dog friendly getaway

Tiernan, Rebecca - 16/07/2024

We really loved our stay in Kabina 1 with our dog Annie. It was so peaceful and we loved the decor. The hot tub was a firm favourite too! Some feedback- We did have some issues with hot water in the shower. The water would run hot for a few minutes and then go cold and take about an hour to heat back up. We both got caught in cold water with shampoo in our hair. Not sure if there was something wrong or whether you are supposed to just have quick showers. We also found that the wooden area around the bed was quite dirty - there were dog hairs (not our dog), dust and a few dead flies. We had to wipe around it ourselves which isn’t ideal. Some of the cutlery was also a bit dirty. Everything else was spotless though! Our final bit of feedback is that it would be great if the shop opened later/there was an honesty system for essentials. We realised we needed more wood at 6.15 but couldn’t buy any. All in all though a great stay, friendly staff and we would return. Pizza shack w

We all had a good time. The facilities were well looked after and the cleanliness couldn't be faulted. My daughter is coeliac and so has to be completely gluten free. Nonetheless we were all able to use and enjoy the Pizza Shack facilities as they made sure that everything was prepared separately. It was an enjoyable, relaxing break.

We had a wonderful stay at Baxby. The tent pitches are spacious and private and the surroundings are stunning. The facilities were great, including the pizza place and coffee shop. You can tell a lot of hard work has gone into making it a fabulous place. It works very well for families. We will definitely be back to camp and will also try some on-site accommodation.

Fabulous weekend

Walker, Tracy - 04/07/2024

5

From the friendly welcome at check in, great sized pitches, clean facilities, lovely food from the pizza shack and fabulous weather, our whole party had a great time. Just the mid-term recharge that both the adults and children needed. Loads to do within easy driving distance, we opted for climbing big hills, paddling in streams, great ice creams and exploring around the site. Can’t wait for a return visit.

Kabina stay - June 2024 - tranquility and relaxation

Jones, Louise - 03/07/2024

I was extremely lucky to win a 2 night stay in one of baxby manors kabinas this summer and it was absolutely stunning. The welcome was really friendly and the site was easy to navigate, definitely read the directions and instructions in your email to get to the site itself. The accommodation was great, lovely comfy armchairs and beds, a fab little kitchen, lovely modern bathroom and the bonus of our own hot tub. The site itself was so quiet and peaceful. Perfect for relaxing and recharging! We did a couple of walks from the site during our stay and up to nearby villages. The pub (plum and partridge) a 5 min walk from the site was really nice for a mid afternoon drink in the sun.We also treated ourselves to a pizza from the on-site pizza shack. They were absolutely amazing, probably the nicest pizza we’ve ever had! Overall an absolutely fantastic break and will definitely return. Thank you to everyone who made our stay fabulous.
