The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite.
Camping and Glamping in Yorkshire – you will LOVE it here…
…if you appreciate nature and peacefulness off the beaten track…
…if you want to toast marshmallows on an open campfire whilst gazing at a sky laden with stars...
…if you want time to yourself to read your favourite book or watch the Kingfishers and the Otters.
The Hideaway, Baxby Manor is a special, peaceful and restful place where you can spend precious days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A haven for walkers and cyclists, and a perfect base for exploring the many historic, cultural and outdoor attractions of this lovely part of Yorkshire. We are about camping, campfires, the countryside and getting away from it all.
Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine.
Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!
There is parking for up to four cars per booking, due to parking space restrictions please contact us if you intend to come in more than four cars.
NB Due to our abundant wildlife habitats please keep noise to a minimum after 10pm, especially if out on the veranda and in the Hot-Tub.

We camped at Baxby Manor for four nights... myself, my husband and our small dog. We found the site to be peaceful, surrounded by beautiful nature and the staff were amazing. The tent allocated pitches are well spaced out...we overlooked a stream and fields and we had a lovely stay. The facilities are immaculate...spotless showers and toilets and pot room...fully heated...great. Cooked breakfast food was available from the pizza shack in the morning, and pizzas were sold at night time. There is also a well stocked shop. There are some fab walks surrounding the sure...a short walk to the pretty village if Husthwaite gets you to the local pub...also great We visited National Trust properties and gardens, and an abbey and a priory...and the town of Helmsley is beautiful...we visited it's walled garden. Lots of places to go, and we had a fantastic holiday. I would definitely recommend this site if you want a peaceful stay whilst being surrounded by beautiful natural scenery
Lovely out of the way location yet walking distance to besutvillagewith a great pub. Facilities are spotless
Pleasantly surprised with the excellent standard of the facilities, location and friendliness of the staff at Baxby Manor. The drying room is a real bonus and we really enjoyed the option of the pizza shack at the weekend and ability to book a session at the new onsite sauna - such a treat. Waking up to the baby lambs and chicks made it feel very springlike. We’ll certainly be making a return visit :)
We had a lovely two night break in one of the hoglet houses! The facilities on site were immaculate! The little shop had the perfect treats for the campfire and the pizza shack was the highlight of my son's stay! Log fires, bunk beds, chickens and campfires what's not to love!
I was looking for a cute little overnight stay with my 2 daughters while we explored the area. So happy I chose Baxby manor, we stayed in the hoglet house which was beautiful! The set up was so cosy, the place itself idyllic. My youngest was so happy seeing the chickens and lambs. It was very peaceful and staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming. Showers and toilets were very very clean, pizza shack was delicious. Would highly recommend to people and we will certainly be back. Thank you!
Wonderful staff, brilliant facilities. We had the BEST time!
Our second time to the hideaway and no less impressive, never realised the joy you would get from creating a roaring fire in the hoglet house, staff are extremely friendly, the rooms are cozy and it’s just a beautiful place to get away a night, see you next year you saucy devils
The facilities were great and very clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We explored the area on foot as well as travelling out to surrounding market towns, historic houses and museums.
The Hideaway at Baby Manor is exactly that. A beautiful hideaway. We upgraded to a Kabina after visiting a Hoglett 18 months ago. Was nice to see more people there as we came in November before. Pizza was excellent again and just the whole experience was great. We did the Sauna and Ice Bath and were delighted to see a mumma hen with her 8 baby chicks searching for food. Day trip to York is so easy too! We’ll be back!
We had such a lovely stay at the beginning of the school holidays for two nights. Bex couldn’t do enough for us on check in and even advised our daughter could help feed the week old lambs which absolutely made her trip.Location is great for visiting York etc. camping facilities look good however I would expect when we return we will stay in a Kabina. Only downside for me would be our daughter is 15 so if she wanted to bring somebody with her the accommodation wouldn’t be suitable.
