Rufus's Roost Treehouse

Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!

No trees have been harmed in the construction of Rufus’s Roost!

Hogletton

If you fancy something a little MORE luxurious then come and check-in to “Hogletton@The Hideaway”!

With a PROPER double bed plus two single beds (one a bunk) in our Hoglet Houses plus up-cycled outdoor furniture, solar fairy lights, plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs, glasses, BBQ tools, portable single gas stove, kettle, and cushions and throws not to mention your own Log-burner inside and your own private campfire outside- there’s quite a lot included!

We suggest bringing a frying pan or two (no pans provided) for those tasty local bacon and eggs in the morning, brought to you by our friendly local butcher - on site on Saturday mornings!!

You will need to bring your own bedding, (none supplied) it is so much nicer having your own pillow you’ve got to admit! It can get a little cool during the night (even in mid-summer) so bring a nice warm duvet.

Other items you will need to bring yourselves include; dishcloths, bag of t-lights, and perhaps a gazebo to shelter in from the (rain!) sun.

Our Hoglet Houses have fairy lights and no electricity for the very same reasons mentioned above…

Each House also has its own fire-pit.

The Sanctuary - ADULT ONLY area

The Sanctuary is an Adults ONLY area beyond the orchard at the southern-most corner of the Hideaway, a special place that has been untouched to encourage wildlife and ground-nesting birds. For this reason there are only five pitches set amongst the native trees and grasses.

Please note all Sanctuary pitches are all are next to the stream and are between 100 and 200 meters from the car parking and amenity facilities but do not worry each Sanctuary pitch has its very own wheelbarrow to help with carrying items from the car!

There are no Electric Hook Up’s in The Sanctuary

Family holiday

Johnson, Philip - 04/08/2022

5

Couldn't fault anything, I agreed with all the rules, the facilities were brilliant spotlessly clean, the site was well maintained, shop fairly priced and the food shack well run and beautiful pizzas. We had a great weekend and actually got a good night's sleep unlike other sites we have been to, would definitely book again. Thank you

Great Little Campsite

Hodgson, Darren - 03/08/2022

5

Overall a great campsite, clean, well run with some quirky ideas. Bit noisey on the odd night but not the sites fault as purely down to children running riot on the main site - it was the first week of the school holidays after all. Not the cheapest for a non electric pitch but we didn't feel too short changed due to the site facilties and location. Despite the weather we had a nice, comfortable stay. The main standout for us was the cleanliness of the facilties.

Peace, fun and time to reconnect.

Dodds, Nicola - 03/08/2022

5

The layout of the campsite has the biggest appeal for us as a family. Each pitch has plenty of space and you can create a sense of privacy. The kids love the space to run around, play and hide. The facilities are clean and always available. The Pizza shack on site was a god send on rainy days and we made the most of the campfire and cooking on the tripod. This was our third stay at Baxby Manor and I'm sure we'll be back! 😊

Fabulous campsite

Casson, Paul - 02/08/2022

5

The Hideaway at Baxby Manor is our favorite campsite. Excellent generous pitches, first class facilities (shower, pot washing, drying room, fridges for food and drink). The food on site is first class also - the pizzas and skin on fries are a must. Breakfast choice is great too. Excellent location to explore the surrounding area (York city centre and it’s many attractions in particular). The village of Easingwold is a few miles away and great for food shopping, a drink in the pubs and a take away. We have always found the staff friendly and helpful. This site has become a regular on our ‘camping calendar’ and we will be back again next year.

Fab peaceful retreat.

Ennis, Racheal - 01/08/2022

We stayed in the sanctuary and had a wonderful, relaxing camping trip. Facilities were excellent (be warned they are a good walk from the sanctuary pitches but worth the walk for the woodland bliss!) The built in fire pit was great for cosy evenings. The pizza shack was excellent for our last night treat! Planning to return to the hideaway with our child and friends.

Peaceful, friendly site

Knagg, Rebecca - 31/07/2022

5

This is the second time we have stayed at The Hideaway, each time the facilities have always been clean and staff welcoming. This is a lovely, friendly and peaceful site, which is why we chose to stay again. Janet was really friendly and my children loved to see Noodle the dog and Monty the parrot. The Pizza Shack was amazing, so handy and really tasty! The new Cider Farm nearby was also a great addition. A lovely place with lots nearby to explore.

Excellent as always

Charlton, Ross - 31/07/2022

5

This is by far the best campsite we have stayed at. This was our third visit and still impressed with the place. Very impressed with the pizza/coffee hut which came in handy. The toilets were very clean and cannot fault the place. We used the family eco pod for the first time and can recommend this, very clean and tidy. Very enjoyable place and very child friendly, we be retiring next year!

2nd time here and we would stay again

Winstanley, Alison - 31/07/2022

Great place to stay, the facilities are fabulous if you stay using the pizza shack for tea at least one night is a must. Love sitting out around the fire pit of an evening. Lots of attractions for the whole family within a 30/40 min drive. Cider bar a good new addition and plum and partridge is recommended for tea one night too. Lovely and clean, peaceful and pretty as usual
