The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite.
Camping and Glamping in Yorkshire – you will LOVE it here…
…if you appreciate nature and peacefulness off the beaten track…
…if you want to toast marshmallows on an open campfire whilst gazing at a sky laden with stars...
…if you want time to yourself to read your favourite book or watch the Kingfishers and the Otters.
The Hideaway, Baxby Manor is a special, peaceful and restful place where you can spend precious days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A haven for walkers and cyclists, and a perfect base for exploring the many historic, cultural and outdoor attractions of this lovely part of Yorkshire. We are about camping, campfires, the countryside and getting away from it all.
***WE HAVE A VERY STRICT ‘NO NOISE AFTER 10PM’ POLICY SO IF YOU WANT TO STAY UP LATE PARTYING…THIS IS NOT THE SITE FOR YOU!***
Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine.
Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!
No trees have been harmed in the construction of Rufus’s Roost!
There is parking for up to four cars per booking, due to parking space restrictions please contact us if you intend to come in more than four cars.

Our double Ecopods sleep up to 2 people in a double bed with a mattress.
There is no electricity in the Ecopods because that just would not be eco-glamping, with soul now would it! There are lanterns for T-lights though, so you can sit outside and gaze at the stars.
You will need to bring your own bedding (sheet,duvet/sleeping bag and pillows) and perhaps some chairs for sitting around the campfire and toasting some marshmallows.
Campfire cooking only, there is no cooking facilities inside so bring a camping stove with you so you do not have to crank up the fire in the morning for that bacon sarnie!
Each Ecopod has its own fire-pit. One dog is welcome in one of our Double Pods.

Double bed plus two single beds (one a bunk) in our Hoglet Houses.
If you fancy something a little MORE luxurious then come and check-in to “Hogletton@The Hideaway”!
With a PROPER double bed plus two single beds (one a bunk) in our Hoglet Houses plus up-cycled outdoor furniture, solar fairy lights, plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs, glasses, BBQ tools, portable single gas stove, kettle, and cushions and throws not to mention your own Log-burner inside and your own private campfire outside- there’s quite a lot included!
We suggest bringing a frying pan or two (no pans provided) for those tasty local bacon and eggs in the morning, brought to you by our friendly local butcher - on site on Saturday mornings!!
You will need to bring your own bedding, (none supplied) it is so much nicer having your own pillow you’ve got to admit! It can get a little cool during the night (even in mid-summer) so bring a nice warm duvet.
Other items you will need to bring yourselves include; dishcloths, bag of t-lights, and perhaps a gazebo to shelter in from the (rain!) sun.
Our Hoglet Houses have fairy lights and no electricity for the very same reasons mentioned above…
Each House also has its own fire-pit.

Sheltered, level and spacious tent pitches without electric hook up.
There is plenty of space and a new heated log amenity building where the showers are as warm as the welcome. In keeping with the campfire theme, the water is heated by wood-fired boiler and there is a heat recovery system to add to our ‘eco’ credentials.

The Sanctuary is an Adults ONLY area. A special place that has been untouched to encourage wildlife and ground-nesting birds.
The Sanctuary is an Adults ONLY area beyond the orchard at the southern-most corner of the Hideaway, a special place that has been untouched to encourage wildlife and ground-nesting birds. For this reason there are only five pitches set amongst the native trees and grasses.
Please note all Sanctuary pitches are all are next to the stream and are between 100 and 200 meters from the car parking and amenity facilities but do not worry each Sanctuary pitch has its very own wheelbarrow to help with carrying items from the car!
There are no Electric Hook Up’s in The Sanctuary |

We have visited the Hideaway many times, staying in the pods, and it was lovely to be back again. It is so peaceful and relaxing to just sit in beautiful surroundings and unwind. We even saw a hedgehog! The pod and toilet facilities were spotless, we cooked over the firepit, and slept like babies.Cannot recommend this place highly enough of you're looking for peace and quiet.
We stayed for 3 nights on a grass campervan pitch with electric hook-up and couldn't have asked for any more. Friendly staff, spotless facilities including toilets, washing up room, drying room/laundry, small shop for essentials and a takeaway selling breakfasts and pizza-based evening meals. All this in an idyllic location. A real treat for nature lovers and perfect for walking. We were there midweek and it was extremely quiet, but we understand that it is a lot busier at weekends and school holidays. Will be going back.
We liked this campsite and would happily return to it. The owners have made every effort to make the experience agreeable and comfortable and pay great attention to cleanliness. They are keen to be environmentally-friendly and say they generate their electricity and the site is carbon-neutral - a strong point in their favour for me. My only criticisms would be of the very stiff taps which have to be pressed very hard to operate and deliver only a short burst of water. These could be adjusted. The other snag is that the washing up area is very hot on account of several fridges being in the room. It just requires ventilation.
Well, what can I say about this gem of a place. The entire set up has been designed to make your stay tranquil so you can just relax in the beautiful surroundings. My list of requirements is quite high… secluded spots, spotless modern facilities, your own space, back to nature but with creature comforts. The pizza shack gives you flexibility if you don’t fancy cooking yourself or venturing out. The vegan options are wonderful! Friendly and helpful staff. This place exceeds in every way. I’m desperate to go back as soon as possible.
If you’re looking for time to discover nature, have peace and quiet and more privacy than any campsite we have visited- stay at the beautiful Hideaway. Everything has been thought of. Love the pitches and space. It was perfect.
Hi Clare! Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a glowing review :-) We are really happy you found us "Magical, Private and Perfect" that's what we are all about -space, nature and all your needs met!We look forward to hosting you again soon! The Baxby Manor Hideaway Team
Thanks Andy! I like it, if we only needed one word to decsibe The Hideaway, then GREAT would absolutley do it :-) Hope to see you again, soon!
What a find! We took our 5 year old glamping here in our VW T6 and glawning and it is SUCH a wonderful place! Tranquil birdsong and rippling brooks, a lovely little shop full of necessities (and a parrot and a dog!), delicious pizzas and breakfast foods from The Pizza Shack, a short walk to the lovely Plum and Partridge Pub. All this within close proximity to many places to visit for day trips. Toilet/shower facilities are warm and clean. We couldn't have asked for more. Thank you Barney and Co!
We have visited this site a couple of times and this time we wanted to take the dog! Very friendly site, brilliant and clean facilities! This time we came there was a BEAUTIFUL pizza shack which did a wide range of food and breakfast, helpful due to just staying 1 night.Would recommend this site to anyone and will be back!
We had a 4 night break on a non electric tent pitch over Easter. The pitches are enormous so you are able to spread out. Each pitch has a fire pit which is fabulous to sit round when the temperature drops on an evening. The facilities at Baxby are second to none, always spotlessly clean and never very busy at any time of the day. We will most definitely be returning. Thank you Barney and team!! 😊
If you want to stay somewhere that retains an element of a natural feel with clean, comfortable facilities and willing to pay a touch extra then this comes fully recommended.
