The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite.

Camping and Glamping in Yorkshire – you will LOVE it here…

…if you appreciate nature and peacefulness off the beaten track…

…if you want to toast marshmallows on an open campfire whilst gazing at a sky laden with stars...

…if you want time to yourself to read your favourite book or watch the Kingfishers and the Otters.

Rufus's Roost Treehouse (strictly no pets)

  • Sleeps 6
  • 3 bedrooms

Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine.

Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!

There is parking for up to four cars per booking, due to parking space restrictions please contact us if you intend to come in more than four cars.

NB Due to our abundant wildlife habitats please keep noise to a minimum after 10pm, especially if out on the veranda and in the Hot-Tub.

Perfect place for a cosy, chilled NYE!!

Blizzard, Angela - 07/01/2025

5

As we stayed over NY, the pizza shack was only taking advance bookings, they text me a few days before hand to double check if we wanted to order and food or drink. I really appreciated that. The hoglet house was so well equipped, very cosy and the perfect way to celebrate the New year. As regular campers, we brought out usual camping gear, but the hoglet has plates, cups, wine glasses, utensils, Cutlery, gas burner. A few bits to keep the fire going for a couple of hours. We brought plenty of blankets, as we weren't sure how warm the hoglet house would be, but we were actually too hot at one point!! The firepit and tripod were fantastic value. There were books and games to do a book swap, or for kids to borrow. The fairy lights and battery candles in the house are quite dim, which is gorgeous, but we found a torch beneficial when playing games. The toilets and showers were pristine! The iPad was a great idea to find a local walk, or local restaurants etc.

Magical place for a Christmas getaway

Brookes, Caroline - 26/12/2024

5

We arrived at the Hideaway around 5pm and everywhere looked magical with fairy lights twinkling. We went to check in and to receive our hot chocolate as we'd been promised but was a little disappointed that reception and shop were shut and our welcome pack was just hung outside (despite being told they were open until 6pm). This also meant we couldn't buy a small pack of kindling for our hut.Negatives aside we went to our lodge and ordered pizzas from the pizza shack. They were delicious! The man at the pizza shack also let my husband buy a bag of logs for our hut but this was a huge bag as this was all he could access The huts have all the basics you need and I was glad we'd paid the extra to have bedding and towels. The shower block was lovely and clean and also had some games and books that could be used. The morning we left we ordered breakfast to our lodge and again everything was delicious.I'd highly recommend a stay

The Perfect Stay

Wall, Rana - 05/12/2024

5

We are a family of three children and stayed for a weekend in the Kabina Grande for my husband’s birthday. Everything was perfect. The Kabina itself is beautiful and so comfortable, it had everything we needed and more. My husband and I agreed we had the best nights sleep in a long time, the bed was so cosy and comfortable. The private hot tub and fire pit were highlights and the luxury of having fresh pizza delivered to your door was the cherry on top! A great stay for families, we will definitely be back!

Back to nature break

Prior, Anna - 28/11/2024

We are regular summer campers at Baxby Manor but this was our first time in a hibernation Hoglet house and boy did we enjoy it! All the same Hideaway greatness in friendly and helpful staff, tasty pizza and beautiful surroundings, but this visit felt really magical as well. We were greeted by twinkling fairy lights and a roaring fire inside our hut. We didn’t need all the blankets and hot water bottles we brought as it was actually so warm! We all slept well in the cosy beds and to top it all off, it snowed!Apart from a visit to York Outlet for some Christmas shopping, we were able to really unplug and get some much-needed downtime. I’m now counting the days until we can come back!

Beautiful family weekend

Kelly, Helen - 22/11/2024

We came on Friday after school and enjoyed a family movie around the log fire on Friday. On Saturday we visited beacon allpacas and spent an hour waking with them - it was so lovely and the lady running it was so patient with our children and very knowledgable. We spent Saturday afternoon making homemade pizzas, in the hot tub and then visited the forest to make dens and toast marshmallows. The whole place is magical, you feel very safe and everything is catered for. The children love it, it’s such a great place to spend family time, away from iPads and the tv! Loved all the board games provided too! On Sunday we visited the white horse and then visited the local pub for dinner - it was sooo good! We will definitely be back - a wonderful place to spent time with the family
