As you turn through the gates at Skelwith Fold the magical red road, winding to the park reception, is canopied by trees and bordered by woodland where you’ll likely catch a glimpse of resident wildlife, such as roe deer, woodpeckers, and if you’re lucky, even a red squirrel.
Skelwith Fold's 120 touring pitches for Caravan and Motorhome holidays are scattered throughout a 130-acre woodland site, offering guests the opportunity to cohabit with wildlife, woodland, wetland and fell habitats found within the caravan sites boundaries.
The park offer self-contained Hideaways which are located in one of the park’s quietest and most wildlife-friendly spots. For those wanting a unique couples getaway, the Hideaways provide the perfect retreat for a few days.
Although Skelwith Fold houses over 400 pitches it has the feel of a much smaller park – the various accommodation areas have been carefully and sympathetically set out in small woodland glades, settled amongst natural undulating features, creating a sense of quiet and intimacy.
Fully serviced "Premium" pitches are hard-standing offering hook-up for electric and include water, grey waste and TV.

Number Three Skelwith Fold is very comfortable and spacious, with a large kitchen and dining space downstairs and wide open living room on the first floor. Up to six people can stay between the three generously sized double bedrooms – two of which enjoy full modern en-suite bathroom facilities while the third is located across from the main bathroom.
The cottage blends the very best of the old and the new to give you a memorable stay with us at Skelwith Fold. We booked a campervan pitch and were disappointed that even though it was a hard standing there were no grassed areas to either side of our pitch. The site we had stayed at before in Grassington had hard standing but surrounded by grassed areas. This tended to "soften" the immediate surroundings. Also the hard standing pitches were very close together. Not so much either side of you but the access road dividing the pitches meant you were immediately opposite your neighbour. The site was well wooded and with very neat garden plantings making for a very attractive site. The toilet/shower blocks were extremely clean and were regularly maintained. Copious amounts of hot water. The on-site shop was very competitively priced considering they have a "captive" audience. I shopped there on three occasions and commented to my wife on each visit how competitively priced the shopping was.Ideal location for exploring Ambleside, Windemere and surrounding area.
We wanted a quiet break and got it.Every member of staff made our stay friendly and welcoming, above and beyond...except the young girl with long dark hair in reception, who struggled to appear friendly, a shame as staff welcome was the best feature of Skelwith otherwise. The whole place is beautifully kept and very well organised, the addition of a book room is a great idea. However, we have always stayed on quality sites and this was by far the most expensive. It was also the only site we wouldn't want to return to because; The showers, although clean, we're too few for the number of pitches...just 3.The pitches weren't clearly outlined and too close together, making it stressful every time there was an arrival/departure.It was like staying in a carpark... and some green, grassy areas would make a big difference.Providing walking routes of the locality is a great feature...charging for each one seems mercenary and a mistake.Better efforts for recycling facilities needed.
We stayed in Helvellyn Safari Tent and it was magical. The setting seemed remote even though well connected, all staff were super friendly and helpful, the tent itself was wonderful. Well equipped, immaculate, fun and luxurious. Our daughters had the best time playing in the stream and building fairy houses. Skelwith is an absolute gem.Thank you from us All
It was a really nice place to stay and would recommend it to our friends and family
Premium touring pitches seem second rate compared to the beauty of the rest of the park.
The park was spotlessly clean , well organised and just brilliant. The pitches has larger than usual spaces between other pitches, the staff were friendly and helpful and the shower block was large and clean with heated floors . The location is great , surrounded by beautiful woodland and a scenic 45 minute walk into Ambleside centre. I can’t recommend this park enough and will definitely be returning ☺️
Great site, good location for walking and cycling. Staff all pleasant and helpful. Facilities very clean.
This was our second visit to Skelwith, last year in a motorhome and this year in one of their cottages. The whole experience was excellent. All of the staff are friendly and helpful and happy to take the time to chat. The whole site is immaculate and peaceful. The cottage was impressive and the gardens and views were wonderful. The only downside was the holiday came to an end.
Lovely site, great facilities and a fab location. All of the staff I met were so helpful and lovely too. Would definitely recommend.
