The site itself is fine. Perhaps it was bad luck as was a Friday night in summer, but the noise from other campers went on until 1:30 am. In the big field feral kids were shouting and drunk parents doing the same. In the woodland retreat I was surrounded by youths drinking (and drugs from what I could tell) and generally making a racket until the early hours. I tried to ask them to shut up but fell on deaf ears. If you want sleep go elsewhere.
Campsite was easy to find, check in was easy.I had a unpowered pitch in a quiet cluster of trees. All the facilites were working and clean, and the cafe was available if I didnt fancy cooking.Great views across the hills and valleys and a great base to explore from
We had very high hopes when we arrived, the site is lovely with nice facilities. However, despite first impressions, this site is poorly managed. We were pitched in the woodland retreat, clearly stated on the website for small tents however on our first night, the pitch next to us had an oversized 8 man tent which extended into our space leaving us with little privacy. On the second night, this pitch was replaced by a group of 4, who stayed up drinking and playing music until the early hours, along with multiple large groups in the main field with crates of alcohol - feeling more like a festival than a peaceful camping trip. This is despite the campsite imposing a silent rule after 10:30. Also despite no fires/BBQs, multiple groups were doing this which felt very dangerous given the current climate. On either night, we did not see the warden patrolling (as stated on the website) to enforce these rules. Overall, we felt unsafe and exhausted throughout this trip.
Very depressing place. We arrived at 3.50pm and the shop was already closed. The camping pitch was in the most dark and depressing area I have ever come across, no idea why there was a wooden door and fencing blocking it off from the other camping area and it was far from the toilets. We moved our tent to the better area as there was nobody else there. A couple turned up to camp and were upset there was nobody around to get a key for the toilets and anything to eat. We had to lend them our key initially but had to resort to putting the catch on the door so they could use the facilities without disturbing us. It did not feel safe, the whole area is open to everyone which I understand due to the rights of way across the estate but anyone can walk in and pitch up. The only good thing was the washing up room had two sockets so we could charge our phones, which was needed as we were walking the Cleveland way. It was the worst camping experience in my 40 years of camping. Toilets were clea
When we first went to the pod the lock was a bit odd, but we thought it was just stiff but no ,because we got locked in for over 10 minutes which doesn't seem a long time. As we couldnt get a signal on our phones we couldnt ring for help. The door into the toilet was dragging on the floor and we struggled to open it. But I have to say Lucy was great and she got us into another pod that afternoon! I just think these things should be checked more carefully. It didn't stop us enjoying our 5 nights there. All the staff in the shop and restaurant are so lovely and couldnt do enough for us. The meals are excellent. Its just general maintenance really. We've stayed 4 times now and won't stop us returning
The setting at Lordstones is idyllic, we stayed in the Central pod which was perfect as we took small children who had plenty of space to run around and be loud without disturbing others. This place is so peaceful and just beautiful. The staff were fantastic, particularly the team in the restaurant who made our kids feel really special when we went for dinner and breakfast throughout our stay. The pods themselves are a little tired inside, but nothing that would put us off staying again, especially for the price which is so reasonable for a 2 night stay. We're looking forward to returning for another visit!
Easy to find, great facilitiesWould be useful to have pitch numbers on posts, we arrived late and tired and had no idea where to pitch up as map not that clear
We had a fantastic stay and couldn't have been happier with our experience. The pod is located in a private area with just five other pods, and there's plenty of space between them, so it feels peaceful and secluded rather than crowded. The setting is absolutely idyllic. Surrounded by beautiful trees, lush green grass, and nature in every direction, it's the perfect place to relax and unwind. There are also several great hiking trails nearby, making it an excellent base for exploring the area on foot.If you're looking for a quiet getaway close to nature, this is a wonderful place to stay. We would happily return and highly recommend it.
We come at least once a year with a large group of friends and family which include children. The facilities are clean and adequate, the site is cosy and safe. We always have a meal at the Black Bull and the service is great. We love the views and various walks available. Perfect campsite!
The staff really make this place when you visit the cafe/restaurant/shop facilities. A beautiful bit of the world to wander around and then come back the the campsite base to relax. The food has always been excellent, as as service. Accomodation is pleasant. Clean and tidy and in a good setting.
