The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite.

Camping and Glamping in Yorkshire – you will LOVE it here…

…if you appreciate nature and peacefulness off the beaten track…

…if you want to toast marshmallows on an open campfire whilst gazing at a sky laden with stars...

…if you want time to yourself to read your favourite book or watch the Kingfishers and the Otters.

Rufus's Roost Treehouse (strictly no pets)

  • Sleeps 6
  • 3 bedrooms

Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine.

Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!

There is parking for up to four cars per booking, due to parking space restrictions please contact us if you intend to come in more than four cars.

NB Due to our abundant wildlife habitats please keep noise to a minimum after 10pm, especially if out on the veranda and in the Hot-Tub.

We had 2 fantastic nights at Baxby Manor, staying in one of the luxury Kabinas. The site itself is excellent and the staff really welcoming and friendly. The Kabina was well equipped and clean, with a great hot tub. If you stay I would definitely recommend ordering pizzas and breakfast from the Pizza Shack!

Beautiful quite getaway

Penney, Kirsty - 26/07/2026

Everything was pristine, my only critisism would be that if you book on your phone less than 3 days before the stay you dont get the current no fires warning, it didnt ruin it but left less options for eating (we ended up ordering from the pizza shack, it was delicious). My kids have little camping experience whereas i have been doing it for years, lots of gravel and wettingg around the firepits would mitigate as much risk. Toilets were clean and spacious, plenty of cleaning equipment. Site was well cared for with a respect for nature. Kitchen area was great, plenty of sinks. Little coffee and vending machine. Staff were really helpful.Definatly be back

Thank you for your lovely review and for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re delighted you enjoyed your stay and that you found the site, facilities and our team so welcoming. It’s also great to hear you enjoyed the Pizza Shack! We’re sorry you missed the temporary fire ban information. Due to the exceptional wildfire risk, we displayed a notice on our website, shared updates on our social media channels and emailed our subscribers. We appreciate that last-minute bookings can sometimes miss earlier communications, and we’ll continue looking at ways to make important temporary restrictions as visible as possible.Thank you also for your suggestion regarding gravel and wetting around fire pits. Unfortunately, that wouldn’t remove the wider risk. Our concern is that wind and rising heat can carry embers from campfires and charcoal barbecues into the surrounding long grass, woodland and neighbouring fields, which is why the temporary fire ban remains in place.Thank you again for your kind words. We really appreciate your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back to Baxby Manor.

Baxby Manor was exactly what we were looking for and more.

Hodson, Helen - 26/07/2026

The site was a fantastic location. We loved the village of Husthwaite and the tranquil nature of the surroundings. A friendly welcome and immediate access on to the pitch. The facilities were great and the morning coffee available at the shack was welcomed. Only one of the shower cubicles was suitable for the push button to allow you to not have to constantly push for water. This is always a downside of any site but I understand the need for water conservation. Only one hairdryer was quite restrictive and the fact that there wasn’t even one plug at the mirrors or the vanity units for straighteners was disappointing. I wouldn’t normally observe this on a camping trip but I needed to be elsewhere after check out and couldn’t get ready as intended. An added bonus was the ice and embers facility, I am so pleased I booked in with Jane and experienced this wellbeing program. Such a wonderful concept and certainly added to the overall stay. Will definitely stay again.

Thank you so much for your lovely review, Helen. We’re delighted you enjoyed your stay and that you appreciated the peaceful surroundings, our beautiful village of Husthwaite and the warm welcome from the team. It’s also great to hear you enjoyed your morning coffee from the Pizza Shack, and we’re especially pleased that your Ice & Embers session with Jane was such a positive part of your stay. We’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to her.Thank you also for your constructive feedback regarding the shower push buttons and the hairdryer. We really do value guests taking the time to share their experiences, and we’ll certainly look into the shower push buttons. We completely understand your comments regarding plug sockets by the mirrors. In fact, when we built the campsite back in 2012, I specifically asked our electricians if we could install them, as I thought they would be useful for guests. Unfortunately, I was advised that plug sockets couldn’t be installed within the communal washroom areas for electrical safety reasons, so that simply wasn’t an option.(In fact there used to be a sign in there saying; " Sorry there are no plug sockets in here, we're not allowed them!" lol)Thank you again for taking the time to leave such thoughtful feedback. We’re so pleased you enjoyed your stay overall, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Baxby Manor again soon. 😊🏕️

We had a very chilled stay in a Hoglet House.Perfectly clean, everything in good condition. Parking was very close to our accommodation. Barney extremely friendly and helpful when we locked ourselves out.The fish and chips were delicious from the food shack and the washing up and fridges/freezers were more than adequate. Lovely secluded site, just a short stroll away from a nice little pub too.Felt very safe and relaxed here so would definitely recommend to others.

Thank you so much for your lovely review, Sue.We’re delighted you had such a relaxing stay in one of our Hoglet Houses and that you found everything clean, comfortable and well maintained.I’m also glad I was able to help when you accidentally locked yourselves out – these things happen! 😊It’s great to hear you enjoyed the fish and chips from the Pizza Shack, found the washing-up area and fridges/freezers useful, and made the most of our peaceful location and the village pub.Thank you again for your kind words and recommendation. We really appreciate it and hope to welcome you back to Baxby Manor again soon. 🏕️💚

Relaxed from moment we arrived

Murphy, Alyssa - 21/07/2026

We spent one night in our campervan on a non-electric pitch. The pitch was large. Baxby had been recommended to us and we were definitely not disappointed. A quiet site with spotless facilities, the pitches are well spaced out with lots of trees and hedges to create privacy. We had an excellent pizza from the little Pizza shack, whilst listening to bird song on the evening. Highly recommended.

Quiet holiday in the countryside

Mills, Julian - 21/07/2026

Stayed from a Tuesday until Friday and had a quiet, relaxing holiday in a great surroundings. Although at the time, there was no fires, each pitch had their own fire pit and the pitches were big enough for any tent. Car parking was allocated and trolley provided to help move gear. Facilities were spotless and there was even bacon sandwiches for breakfast

Thank you so much for your lovely review, Julian. We’re delighted you had a peaceful and relaxing stay with us and enjoyed the spacious pitches, beautiful surroundings and spotless facilities.Thank you as well for your understanding regarding the temporary fire ban. While we know it was disappointing not to be able to use the fire pits, guest safety had to come first due to the exceptional wildfire risk at the time. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the breakfast baps from the Pizza Shack too!We really appreciate you taking the time to leave your review and hope to welcome you back to Baxby Manor again soon. 🏕️💚

Really great stay in a Hoglet House

Greener, Steven - 20/07/2026

Just got back from a couple of nights in one of the Hoglet Houses at Baxby Manor and couldn't fault it. If you're after a peaceful, relaxing break somewhere unique, this place is ideal. The Hoglet House itself is brilliant. It feels tucked away and private, right in the middle of nature. Inside was spotless, nicely decorated, and roomier than we expected. The log burner was the best part—perfect for getting the place cosy in the evenings after a long day out walking. The location is excellent for exploring, with plenty of great countryside walks right from the doorstep. We spent our days out in the fresh air and our evenings sitting on the private decking stargazing. The facilities are great too—the showers were always hot and clean, and the breakfast baps from the Pizza Shack are definitely worth getting. The strict quiet hours mean you get a proper night's sleep and just wake up to the birds. The staff were also very friendly and helpful throughout.Highly recommend it, and we'd definite

A weekend at Baxby

Miller, Gary - 18/07/2026

We had a fantastic stay at The Hideaway at Baxby Manor in our campervan and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Our pitch was spacious, giving us plenty of room to relax, and the surrounding woodland created a peaceful, idyllic setting that made the whole stay feel like a real escape. The customer service was excellent from start to finish, and the facilities were absolutely spotless—everything was well maintained and clearly cared for.We also explored the local area and found some real gems. The Cider Barn is just down the road and well worth a visit, while the Sunday lunch at The Plum & Partridge was outstanding—one of the best we've had.All of these places come highly recommended, and we would definitely return to The Hideaway at Baxby Manor for another stay. A wonderful campsite in a beautiful location!
