The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite.

Camping and Glamping in Yorkshire – you will LOVE it here…

…if you appreciate nature and peacefulness off the beaten track…

…if you want to toast marshmallows on an open campfire whilst gazing at a sky laden with stars...

…if you want time to yourself to read your favourite book or watch the Kingfishers and the Otters.

Rufus's Roost Treehouse (strictly no pets)

  • Sleeps 6
  • 3 bedrooms

Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine.

Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!

There is parking for up to four cars per booking, due to parking space restrictions please contact us if you intend to come in more than four cars.

NB Due to our abundant wildlife habitats please keep noise to a minimum after 10pm, especially if out on the veranda and in the Hot-Tub.

Perfect for a getaway

Bowes, Kathy - 08/06/2026

We returned for a wedding anniversary getaway (after holding our wedding at the Hideaway a lot of years ago), this time staying in Kabina 3. It was very comfortable and well kitted out. Loved the deck and shady canopy, and the air conditioning was very welcome on a hot BH. Pizza shack is a great addition and it's lovely to see how all the trees have grown up, whilst the facilities remain second to none. All staff were friendly and helpful. Thanks guys!

Beautifully calm

Having camped at The Hideaway previously we were keen to return for some peace & quiet The rules pasted about the place can appear slightly excessive initially, but they are there for good reason and if you've ever found yourself forced to listen to other camper's music at 11pm you'll appreciate where I'm coming from The additional cost of staying at Baxby Manor is definitely justified and whilst I don't mind roughing it when I wild camp on my own, having a few basic luxuries is a very welcome break when away with the family

A wonderful back nature campsite stay with friends

We had a lovely time at Baxby Manor camping. We were a group of mums braving a first time solo camping trip and we all had a really amazing time. Being able to pitch together meant the kids had plenty of space to play and they very much loved to see the chickens wandering around. The facilities are really great, very clean and never too busy either. We loved it and will definitely be back.

I hardly know where to begin with this review because Baxby Manor completely exceeded every expectation we had. From the moment we arrived, we felt as though we’d stumbled across something truly special. The whole place has a magical atmosphere – peaceful, welcoming, and set in the most idyllic surroundings. The pitches are generously sized, giving everyone plenty of space to relax and enjoy the stunning natural setting. Seeing the free-range chickens wandering around only adds to the charm and unique character of the site. What really makes Baxby Manor stand out, though, is the people. Every member of staff we met was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about making guests feel at home. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and their warm welcome made all the difference. The facilities are simply exceptional. Everything is immaculate, from the spotless shower and toilet blocks to the well-maintained communal areas. Baxby Manor truly has thought of everyt

we've been coming to the Hideaway for over 16 years and its just keeps getting better. only issue we had this year was that they was a number of dog dirt on our pitch. Previous tennents had failed to clean it up which was disapointing.Tip. always check for dog dirt before setting up tent.

Beautiful “wild” camping experience

Atkins, Bekah - 29/05/2026

We have been 5 times now and every time is a delight. Lovely staff, beautiful and large pitches, great facilities and bonuses like the cafe and pizza shack. Little extras like a book and toy library for kiddos, chickens roaming free. We particularly like the high standards kept - clean bathroom and guests encouraged to leave it as they find; no loud music, rubbish left etc. We’re already making plans to return later on the summer!
