Akebar Park has been run by the same family for over 50 years and is a family-friendly touring site, ideal for touring caravans and motorhomes, with plenty of space for children to enjoy and with outstanding views over the open countryside.
Akebar Park's touring site is a great space for your family holiday, offering grass pitches with electric hook-up, along with a well-equipped children’s play area. The touring field has toilets and showers, washing up areas and chemical waste disposal facilities. We have an onsite shop with basic supplies, and larger supermarkets are located within just a 10-minute drive from Akebar. What’s more, our staff are always on hand to help you have an amazing time – so it’s really no wonder that we’re considered one of the best holiday parks in Yorkshire!
We are an award-winning park and have been awarded the David Bellamy Conservation Gold Award by the British Holiday & Home Parks Association. The award shows that as a park we have taken steps to manage our land as a haven for wildlife; reduce our use of energy and water; reduce, reuse and recycle the waste we produce and support our local community. We have also featured in the Top 100 Sites in recent years.
All customers must report to reception on arrival, where we will be happy to check you in and let you know where your pitch is. Our wardens will be on hand to guide you and help you settle in. Our guests always enjoy their stay here, as we’re an ideal base for walking, cycling and fishing.
Located next to the 12th Century, St. Andrews Church.
This area of the park is only for touring caravans and motorhomes and offers spacious hardstanding pitches with 16 amp electric hook up. It is a very flat area, making pitching up hassle free. Overlooking the fields, you may see a sheep or two!

The emphasis is on static caravans, facilities were a little run down for tourers
We only stayed for one night as a stop over but wish we could have stayed more. It is a beautiful looking park with immaculate facilities. It will be outstanding once they get the restaurant/bar opened at the site entrance. Will definitely come back again.
Friendly staff very helpful , nice walks facilities clean .Will be better again once pub reopens will return
We have been to Akebar in the past and used to come every year.. but this stopped when you no longer allowed tents… when we got a caravan the first place we wanted to revisit was Akebar.. and it was bitterly disappointing … the play area for the kids was dated and put out of the way, needs updating and modernising … the friars head is closed (understand not their fault) but still such a big miss… the shop and facilities very basic… clean and tidy overall but the place just doesn’t have that appeal anymore - WiFi is a joke, costly and hardly works
So our third time here. The park has been altered substantially and for us, the removal of mature trees and the grass pitches which made it a lovely site has had a detrimental effect on the overall feel of the park. Emphasis seems to now be on the mobile home and seasonal pitch market. We had a very noisy group of three vans close to us over the weekend, which happens at any park of course, but as there is no on site presence it was not curtailed. No rowdiness though The pub on site was really good however is now closed down and does not look like it will reopen any time soon which for us, is a real negative. However it is still a site we will still revisit. I think your pitch location is paramount as the majority of pitches appear to be very close together. Would we return. Yes we would. We love the area and the park staff are friendly however, maybe not on our top 3 anymore
Brilliant family park and fab for dogs the enclosed play field was a massive bonus for us Park is immulately kept and not over crowded
Akebar Park is in a really good location near Leyburn. We’d stayed there before in the past, and the reason we booked again is because we’d had a lovely meal in the on-site pub/restaurant and wanted to go again, however this time the pub was closed indefinitely due to the tenants having left suddenly. We went to a pub a mile away on the recommendation of the lady on reception, and it was very nice, however we did have to drive because it’s up a steep incline and one of us couldn’t manage it on foot. The facilities at Akebar park are ok, bathrooms have been refurbished but the shower heads have not, and are feeble to say the least. Bizarrely, you need 20p to use the hair dryer - who takes 20p coins to the shower??Nearby, Bolton Castle is well worth a visit. If the pu were to reopen, we would consider returning.
We stayed at Akebar last weekend two seniors and grandchildren it’s not the first time we’ve stayed here bit just noticed a decline, it seems to be moving more towards statics than touring. There was nothing to do although not their fault the restaurant was closed so we couldn’t get a meal and apparently the pizza van hadn’t been around there for the last couple of years probably due to covid We asked for a certain pitch however we didn’t get the pitch we asked for even though the pitch we asked for was available all weekend.Sorry to say we won’t be coming back.
We booked Akebar Park due to the location and the pub on site.Sadly, on arrival we found that the pub had been closed down for some time.Had we been reliant upon the pub for meals we’d have been in a mess. However, on the up side, the site was beautifully maintained and the toilet and shower facilities were excellent.
