Akebar Park

4.3 (60 reviews)

One of the best touring caravan parks the Yorkshire Dales has to offer, Akebar Park is the most exceptional family-friendly park. We’re proud to have one of the best pubs in Wensleydale, ‘The Friars Head’, onsite. Not only that, but our stunning holiday park also boasts a golf course and great park facilities, making it one of the best parks in North Yorkshire.

Akebar Park has been run by the same family for over 50 years and is a family-friendly touring site, ideal for touring caravans and motorhomes, with plenty of space for children to enjoy and with outstanding views over the open countryside.

Akebar Park's touring site is a great space for your family holiday, offering grass pitches with electric hook-up, along with a well-equipped children’s play area. The touring field has toilets and showers, washing up areas and chemical waste disposal facilities. We have an onsite shop with basic supplies, and larger supermarkets are located within just a 10-minute drive from Akebar. What’s more, our staff are always on hand to help you have an amazing time – so it’s really no wonder that we’re considered one of the best holiday parks in Yorkshire!

We are an award-winning park and have been awarded the David Bellamy Conservation Gold Award by the British Holiday & Home Parks Association. The award shows that as a park we have taken steps to manage our land as a haven for wildlife; reduce our use of energy and water; reduce, reuse and recycle the waste we produce and support our local community. We have also featured in the Top 100 Sites in recent years.

All customers must report to reception on arrival, where we will be happy to check you in and let you know where your pitch is. Our wardens will be on hand to guide you and help you settle in. Our guests always enjoy their stay here, as we’re an ideal base for walking, cycling and fishing.

Not good for walkers

Cooper, Janice - 20/07/2024

Well maintained site and pub and shop a bonus. However we like to take walks and only found one which was across fields full of cow pats and sheep dung and very muddy in parts. There are no verges along the busy road so no go there either. K

Great site for children

Stephenson, Joanne - 11/07/2024

First impressions while driving in, site immaculately kept. Touring side where we stayed was ok. Residents should adhere to rules and keep their dogs on a lead and not roam into other plots. Showers need more regular cleaning.however saying that the kids had the best time, the plot we had was a good size, and we were very lucky with weather. Dog field great for their exercise, we will visit again as close to home

Family weekend touring break

McLachlan, Samantha - 11/07/2024

We love this caravan site and the touring pitches and site overall is kept in excellent condition and is very pretty and calming. The restaurant and pub is fantastic. The play fields, football pitch, crazy golf and bowling are great facilities and free of charge. The only thing that let's this site down is the shower and wc facilities. They are always very dirty and not cleaned, there is always one ladies and one mens loo with a broken lock on the door which never gets fixed. There are only 2 soap dispensers which are mostly broken and rusty. The showers smell because the grates in the floor are lifting up with mould and the mop and bucket water is never changed and overall all sanitary wear is tierd. We understand it costs alot of money to replace, but surely cleaning, fixing door locks, having better soap dispensers and change the mop and bucket water and grates on shower floors would be affordable and would make a difference. And spruce up and clean them daily would work.

Friars Head good for food could do with a better wine selection no Chardonnay by the glass and no ciders available. Lovely restaurants in Bedale , Leyburn and Wyville Arms and Woodman close by selling amazing food

Great site

Unsworth, Terry - 10/06/2024

I initially had reservations about booking this site with it being classed as a 'Large' site, I thought it'd be crammed in and not very spacious. These reservations proved to be unfounded as soon as we pulled into the main gate, pitches are spacious and where we were (St. andrews) felt quite secluded....though we did visit during the week when the kids had gone back after half term.I was taken aback as to how pretty this site is, it's definitely one of the most pleasing on the eye I've stayed at. The restaurant/pub is beautiful also and the food was very nice. Unfortunately I never got the chance to try the on-site golf course but I will next time.

Very close together large slag pitches.

Fewster, Anton - 07/06/2024

Andrews Church Pitches were too close together, no privacy, no border hedging and closer than any Gypsy short stay campsite The slag (not gravel) were far too bigger chunks and difficult for dogs paws to walk on.It came across as a what can we do with this ground (an afterthought ) for tourers. The Seasonal pitches were fantastic plenty of room and laurel Bush surround. In closure, the pitches weren't adequate for a weeks stay and the pitches didn't reflect the site map plan.Be better off not trying to accommodate tourers.

The perfect Caravan Park

Asprey, Emma - 07/06/2024

We took out our caravan for the weekend. The touring pitches are great, we were close to the washrooms and playground. The showers and toilets and spotless. We had a walk to the Friars Head where the kids played out and we had some great food and drink. We have been coming to Akebar for many years and although it has had a few changes it is by far our favourite campsite.Fab as always
