Akebar Park has been run by the same family for over 50 years and is a family-friendly touring site, ideal for touring caravans and motorhomes, with plenty of space for children to enjoy and with outstanding views over the open countryside.
Akebar Park's touring site is a great space for your family holiday, offering grass pitches with electric hook-up, along with a well-equipped children’s play area. The touring field has toilets and showers, washing up areas and chemical waste disposal facilities. We have an onsite shop with basic supplies, and larger supermarkets are located within just a 10-minute drive from Akebar. What’s more, our staff are always on hand to help you have an amazing time – so it’s really no wonder that we’re considered one of the best holiday parks in Yorkshire!
We are an award-winning park and have been awarded the David Bellamy Conservation Gold Award by the British Holiday & Home Parks Association. The award shows that as a park we have taken steps to manage our land as a haven for wildlife; reduce our use of energy and water; reduce, reuse and recycle the waste we produce and support our local community. We have also featured in the Top 100 Sites in recent years.
All customers must report to reception on arrival, where we will be happy to check you in and let you know where your pitch is. Our wardens will be on hand to guide you and help you settle in. Our guests always enjoy their stay here, as we’re an ideal base for walking, cycling and fishing.
The largest touring area on the park, well-lit on an evening with our eco-friendly electric bollards.
The area is beautifully lined with rows of poplar trees. This area of the park is perfectly situated for the Children’s Play Area and is very close to the toilet and shower facilities. The poplars is only available for electric hook ups. These pitches are hard standing with 16 amp hook-up.

Located next to the 12th Century, St. Andrews Church.
This area of the park is only for touring caravans and motorhomes and offers spacious hardstanding pitches with 16 amp electric hook up. It is a very flat area, making pitching up hassle free. Overlooking the fields, you may see a sheep or two!

Reserved for Seasonal Tourers, although on Bank Holidays, can be used as extra touring space.

A large park of statics and seasonals but still a nice pitch for our tourer. Men's facilities were clean but when we arrived the ladies did not appear to have been cleaned, the same the next day and but cleaned a day later. Showers hot but not very powerful. Wifi signal really poor and told originally there was no wifi available by receptionist until I pointed out it was in the written information and then was connected via e mail.Would not recommend to mature couples like ourselves during peak season but peaceful for the time we were there.A mixed bag but overall a good experience.
We enjoy it here and it’s our go to park for a weekend away. I do find it’s expensive when adding awning pets etc but I suppose everywhere is and it’s probs competitively priced. Feel secure about children playing safely on the park unsupervised
We have been coming for a few years now progressing from a tent to a touring caravan and having stayed easter weekend there have been some changes which are not for the better, there are a lot less pitches and the kids seemed to be running all over causing chaos, water all over in the toilets etc and there was no sign of a warden when last year the warden was very visible patrolling on a regular basis making sure kids were supervised behaving and making it pleasant stay for all , this doesn't seem to be a priority any more which is a shame
The site is an excellent park for families but feels busy if your used to adults only sites. The facilities are spotless and the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. The touring area sites are very close together (literally 1m from next pitches awning). The area locally is beautiful and there are good amenities close by. Despite being busy, we would highly recommend Akebar Park to all Caravanners!
We arrived and we’re greeted by staff who checked us in then came down to check everything was ok and offered to bring us wooden blocks to help with levelling the vans. Really good service.
The site was recommended by a dog walking buddy after a chance conversation. It was our first trip away in our caravan and we were really pleased with our choice. Friendly and helpful welcome and shown personally by the warden to the pitch. The toilet block was always spotless and the grounds were kept beautiful. The large safe dog field was great. Close proximity to Leyburn and lots of walks.A great place to stay and we will be coming back.
A very nice and well run site, especially suited to families. My wife and I were only there for two nights in our motorhome, visiting friends who have a park home there. The site is mostly given over to park homes with a smaller area for tourers. The bathroom and toilet facilities we standard, with push button showers and centralised service point for water, grey waste and Elsa point. More distributed water points would have been useful. We also found cars parked in the motorhome service bay which wasn’t helpful. There were also children playing ball games in the toilet block which again was a little disturbing.
4 night stay at Akebar Park. The pitch was easy to find and also had a map from reception as a guide. We pitched near to the park and amenities block which was a fairly quiet area. The shower block was clean and tidy, but maybe does require an upgrade. One of the shower switches was broken and one shower cubicle closed for the whole of our stay ( female). The children's playground on site was enjoyed by our children. Good sized dog walking area and good walks from the park to the local area.Would definitely recommend visiting the shawl in Layburn and the waterfall in Harmby. Great park will definitely return.
Lovely little holiday will be returning soon 4th time on this site maybe could have a little more for children todo as get quite bored with just the park
