"We're not fishermen"

Despite not being fishermen, this site is good for a walk around the lakes and trees and to access Thirsk, Byland Abbey and the White Horse. Local pubs have closed recently so evening meals were obtained in Thirsk where there is plenty of choice. The camp site is well laid out, spacious, clean and totally empty for our visit in early March. We didn't see anyone at all apart from fishing folk, not even a staff member! Access with a large caravan was easy too, with wide roads and an easy entrance.

We came because it was close to york without being in york and close to a.maon road. I can say we were Both incredibly impressed with the site. The piches were large and level and then the washing facilities were a real added bonus. We would come here again deffo. If i had to be really nit picky about providing a negative comment (this is purly to leave a balanced review) in the showers the shower tray has a very low lip which in itself isnt an issue but the shower curtain ends about 6inches off the floor so when your showering the water will come down the curtain and go onto the floor so the floor between the shower and the cubicle door gets soaked. It isnt really a huge thing but you would need to get dry in this space if the site was busy as the area on the other side of the cubicle door is shared with the other cubicle and has a door straight outside so you dont wanna be getting dry in that area and the door get opened and you cant really leave your shoes etc.inside the cubicle on the floor because of the water. Maybe a longer curtain? I mean thats literally the only thing i could say if i was trying to find a negative point.

I was the only one there but felt safe with night security on because it's a large fisheries. Even waited for me to arrive back late at night before putting the barrier down . Lovely location with large hard standing pitches, warm and clean shower and toilet block. Although it has a no dog policy allowed me to stay with my 3 dogs as no fishing competitions being held. Would definately stay again

Nice quiet site ( someone on a review mentioned a crowing cockerel ,but that’s the countryside for you!!!)with excellent clean wash /shower facilities. Owner was very helpful as to the local attractions in the area. Come with vittles since no where locally to stock up. Unless you want a trip to Thirsk. There is a basic cafe on site. Unfortunately the pub in the village was closed due to having a refurb.
