Settle, North Yorkshire

233 Reviews

Park Description

For over 90 years Little Stainforth has hosted both local and national campers. It is also one of the oldest sites still run by the same family, the Maudsley’s. We are sure you will enjoy your stay at Little Stainforth, and we will do everything we can to ensure that your stay is a pleasant and memorable one. Set in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the park stands on the 45-acre estate of Knight Stainforth Hall, just 2 miles north of the market town of Settle and nestled on the banks of the River Ribble, a manor house dating back to pre-Norman times, which belonged to the Knight Templar.

The Touring Park is open from 1st Mar – 31st Oct and offers 100 touring pitches for Caravans, Motorhomes and Tents. 75 of these are serviced with electrical hook-up points.

The children’s playground and ball games area always go down well with the little ones. Shop with off-license selling basic supplies, camping accessories and gas refills. Games and TV room and an Information room containing brochures and literature on attractions and events in the locality. Some information is available on places of interest further afield, but within easy access of the Park. Fishing is available on site.

The park is not only ideally situated for exploring the dales but is also within easy traveling distance of the Lakes and Herriot Country. The area around Little Stainforth offers many attractions including: Malhamdale including the Cove and Gordale Scar, Settle to Carlisle Railway, The 3 Peaks, Ingleton Water Fall Walk, White Scar and Inglebourgh Show Cave, The Pennine Way, The Lake District, Outdoor Pursuits inc. Horse riding, Walking, Cycling and Climbing.

"First visit"

Mr W Thomas - Stayed with partner, Sep 2021

We’ll set out with large hard standing and services, pity no drainage. Too many empty seasonal vans for my liking. Good mix of tents and vans, statics well hidden away from tourers. Fantastic restaurant with delightful staff. We shall be back!

"Motorhoming"

Most of the campsite is on a slope but some areas are more steep than others. Unfortunately it is more difficult to level a motorhome on an appreciable slope than a caravan so many of the pitches are really not suitable for motorhomes. My only criticism would be when a booking is taken from a motorhome owner more consideration should be given to placing them on suitable pitches in terms of slope. We watched two motorhomes attempting to pitch on very sloping pitches who eventually moved to more suitable pitches. Otherwise a very nice site with good dog walking facilities.

"Great site, lovely location, helpful and friendly staff"

It was lovely and quiet, hardly anyone using the facilities at the same time. COVID precautions seemed to be good, everything was very clean, good ventilation and the driers weren’t in use. The management were very friendly - without me asking, I was offered use of the family/accessible shower so that I’d have a stool to use as I was suffering with reduced mobility. This was extremely useful! Access can be a bit tricky - as the website says, you need to use the right road - and some of that is single-track with passing places, so you need to be prepared for this if you’re towing. But it’s a quiet road; I didn’t meet anything arriving or departing. The on-site pub/restaurant has real ale, serves excellent food and also does takeaway; I managed to do very little cooking when I was there - always a bonus! There’s a lovely walk along by the river into Settle from the site; I’d recommend this to anyone who can do it. And the scenery in the area is absolutely stunning. A great area for walking or photography.

"Lovely Location"

Lovely well kept site in gorgeous surroundings. The Knights Table a few metres away is an excellent restaurant/takeaway, which means you do not even have to travel.
