Park Description

Moss Wood is a fabulous family run caravan park for Holiday Homes, Touring Caravans and Motorhomes, nestled in a tree lined vale near the ancient village of Cockerham, and provides easy access to walks on the coastal path and nearby areas of Natural Outstanding Beauty.

Skelwith Fold's 90 touring pitches for Caravan and Motorhome holidays are scattered throughout a 130-acre woodland site, offering guests the opportunity to cohabit with wildlife, woodland, wetland and fell habitats found within the caravan sites boundaries.

All touring pitches are hard standing, offer electric hook-up and are conveniently located for use of the free toilet and shower blocks. Guests have access to laundry facilities, water standpipes and the reception can offer a gas exchange. There is a well stocked shop, internet access and even a Trust Library.

The park also have available 4 self-contained Hideaways which are located in one of the park’s quietest and most wildlife-friendly spots. These two-berth Hideaways provide a unique ambience that cannot be experienced anywhere else in the Lake District.

I give this park five stars in all categories , except one where I gave four, and this is well deserved.

"Extended stay in unpredictable weather .... says a lot about the site!"

The title refers to the very inclement autumn weather that we experienced during our extended stay on the touring site. A lot of the surrounding farm land was under water and it was hard to tell whether they were fields or lakes, that's how much rain there was! The touring site has very good drainage although there was quite severe flooding on the static section. However the site staff were on the ball and worked very hard to clear the site. Pumps were hired and ditches cleared to facilitate the drainage of the water very quickly, Fantastic! We love this site. It is very professionally run on a very friendly basis which is not always the case on many sites. The only negative comment, and it is more a personal observation than a criticism, is that the toilet and shower blocks, whilst spotlessly clean, are in need of an upgrade. Thank you to the whole of the Moss Wood Team for all your hard work and kindness. See you in 2020! Margaret and Russell Thomas

"Nice & quiet"

Mr M Kemp - Stayed with family, Oct 2019

The amenities for children are restricted to two play areas which in truth were very good. The toilet/shower block was adequate but somewhat dated, with the showers offering only tepid water. The touring pitches were very good with adequate space without an awning. If you put an awning up then parking your car was limited adjacent to pitch.

Nice site Very quiet when we stayed, so do have concern whether the bathroom facilities could cope when site is busier. The ladies toilet cubicles are a little cramped, hairdryers could do with updating, but good that they provided them. Showers were a good size & hot, but they are 'push button' for water (not a fan) (only 2 showers in mens & womens) They were always kept clean & didn't shut down for cleaning (bonus compare to other sites) Only one dish washing sink. Staff were very nice. Liked the herb garden touch. Pitches a little close. The touring site has the play park in the middle. You do need a car as public transport is a long way & there are no shops near. The onsite shop has basics, alcohol, locally made pies, book swap & lots of info.

"excellant site"

Mr P Summers - Stayed with partner, Oct 2019

As a newbie to caravanning , we were looking for a quiet site with hard standing. upon arriving , how impressed we were on the quality of pitches and facilities. near to home but we felt we were in the country away from it all.

The site is located in lovely area. Clean & Well maintained site, including spotless shower block/toilets. Help owners/staff. Met many happy friendly people in Tourers and Statics. Great site for walks and fishing. Personally I would not go at a weekend or school... The site is located in lovely area. Clean & Well maintained site, including spotless shower block/toilets. Help owners/staff. Met many happy friendly people in Tourers and Statics. Great site for walks and fishing. Personally I would not go at a weekend or school holidays as some unruly youngsters.. and parents however the owners are aware & show due diligence. I'm sure lots of nice families can enjoy the Touring side ... just a few who did spoi for me... but they may not be regulars. I have recommended to fishing friends for mid week stays, as such a lovely site in beautiful surroundings. With a very warm , friendly welcome from hosts. I would stay again.
