We have stayed at Six Mile Water before and thoroughly enjoyed our stays without any incidents, this stay wasn’t excellent. The toilet block and showers left a lot to be desired and that was down to the other campers and not the staff. We found the floors to be dirty, one toilet cubicle had been smeared with faeces and the bin had something rotten in it. The smell was vile. The recycling bins outside were full when we arrived on the Sunday and were not emptied during the six days we were there. First three days were great but on the fourth day children were allowed to roam on their own. We chased a wee boy ( couldn’t have been more than 5 or 6) from our water tap and found later on that he’d turned it off. Other boys and a couple mums had a football match in front of our caravan (flouting no ball games rule) and weren’t amused that we asked them to play elsewhere. Teenagers roamed the site all Thursday night, laughing and shouting at each other keeping us awake. Not a good experience
Some bins needed emptying dry recyclables full over all a good site 9 out of 10
Ease of booking instant confirmation cleanliness and most beautiful walks and scenery
We have stayed here numerous times, one of our favourite sites. Love the gardens and lovely walk into the town centre. Disappointed that the lough is still not safe for boating and no Staff available on site any longer, it doesn't have that personal touch and makes the place look quite abandoned. Not as well kept as previous years, although we don't use the shower or toilet facilities, have our own.
We had a lovely stay. Caravan site spacious, pitches good size too. Lots of grass area beside for awning and kids can play too. Location great, lovely walks along to the castle gardens. Clean amenities. Laundry services available. Good value for money. Great park just at entrance. Restaurant and coffee short walk too.
It was our first visit and always favouring tollymore it was just as nice. Doggy park was also great and walks through to Antrim castle are gorgeous. Play park also good close to golf club and junction 1 will definitely be back .also tree top activity worth a try. Pitches not on top of each other
Really enjoyed the site but parked our motorhome in bay 2 directly facing the bin store where the recycle bins were full and overflowing with rubbish lying all over the ground.
Easy to book with choice of pitch and everything as expected on arrival, (although had to arrive via exit as the way in is not clearly marked (second right turn into the main car park, by the way). Facilities clean and good working order and good WiFi a bonus.Easy access into town and the lake and excellent bar / restaurant by the lake - again hard to find (up the stairs that feel more like a health centre than a bar). Once in the restaurant, nicely set up with great staff.
We have been using Six Mile Water for 10+ years and were there recently. The site has good, serviced hard standing pitches and is a good location near Antrim Castle Gardens, Lough Neagh and an excellent kids play area. There is also a good restaurant close by.Up until now the site has been staffed by the Council who own and manage the place. A "site manager" was available during certain times and this was useful for all sorts of reasons. This is no longer the case and everything is now "self check-in" etc. and there is no regular supervision. The other issue at our recent visit was the uncontrolled use of adult sized electric scooters which were ignoring the site speed limit and being used in ways which we felt were a real threat to the safety of pedestrians - especially children.A site attendant would probably have been able to deal with this.
It is simple to find once one navigates the 12 speed bumps between the main road and the site. Security is pretty good though people leave the side gate onto the river open because they want to go out and return the same way. Generally safe for kids. The pitches are good with a tap and a power outlet on each one. Some people were emptying their grey water into the drain under their tap which looks like a soak away for spills. The official grey water drain was quite close but doesn't have a tap on it, so rinsing water containers etc is awkward. The big let-down on this visit was the cleaning of the shower block and the removal of rubbish. Both sets of loos were dirty when we arrived and stayed dirty for a whole day - not a place you'd want to take a shower. And the recycling bin was full and overflowing throughout our stay.
