The website made it look appealing

White, Andy - 18/05/2024

We paid for two nights because the website made it look appealing, but my wife is disabled, and the showers and toilets were too far away. The showers lacked a handle (unlike other sites we visited, which had either a handle or a place to sit) and were also located at the bottom of the site. To visit the river or lake, you had to cross a busy road, which was quite dangerous. As a result, we stayed for only one night and left. I could go on but what's the point

Stunning area

Ogley, Amanda - 17/05/2024

Not enough showers and toilets, the showers were savage, too hot, had to shower in our caravan, the bistro varanda was lovely but needs some parasols for shade. We had 2 solid days of someone strimming hedges until after 6pm, not relaxing when you are on holiday. We noticed that cars were just coming in and having a drive round, it should really have barriers so this doesn’t happen, it would be more secure.

Quiet, relaxing campsite.

Murdoch, Peter - 16/05/2024

I found Herdwick Croft to be a quiet, relaxing campsite, with marvellous scenic views of local hills. Very easy access to the northern Lake District. Clean and tidy facilities. Mirrors in toilet facilities could be better positioned for easier viewing. The rubbish and recycling facilities were adequate, but it wasn't clear where to put glass for recycling, so bottles and jars came home.Staff were very friendly and helpful. The onsite bar was an asset, with helpful staff and offering an outdoor seating area where you can sit, relax, enjoy your drink and plan the next day's adventure!

Lovely clean site, great location

Mason, Ian - 16/05/2024

Great location for walks, bus links throughout the lakes. Touring super pitches well spaced, could be better if level.Site facilities very clean, but need updated, and to cater for possibility of busier dates more needed( only 2 male, 2 female)Customers booked into site should be made aware by management of bistro opening times to prevent disappointment of expecting food and drinks and it's not open. When it was open the staff were really friendly, helpful happy and hard working. Pizza was amazing.I think the management needs to be more hands on and available on site to help out staff and customers Lovely site though and will be back..

Bad experience

Christie, Paul - 14/05/2024

This site is over crowded. Caravans, motorhomes to closely pitched with only enough space to park one vehicle between each 'van' The same applied to the static caravans. Twice we requested a site map so we could find the closest facilities. No map was provided. Why the bistro/reception do not have these readily available is a mystery. There wasn't any designated drain facility for 'grey water' Resulting in having to discharge directly onto the hardstanding. The hardstanding's were created from very small sharp chippings, every time we entered our motorhome our footwear would deposit these chippings inside the motorhome. Many of the fresh water taps were leaking. with poor ineffective repairs. Many coat/clothing hooks in the shower/toilet blocks were broken, These items must be too expensive to replace! Very poor considering the cost per night. We had prepaid for three nights but only stayed for two, such was our disappointment with this site. We will not return or recommend this site.

Disappointing & Disappointed...

Price, Jon - 13/05/2024

Fabulous website - gives the impression that touring caravans have a great selection of hard standing pitches and that facilities are comprehensive and of high quality. Wrong. When we arrived, no Reception and no-one to guide us to the right pitch. Ours was in a large sloping field with numbered posts in a very haphazard fashion. Our pitch was in the middle of camper vans and tents with no privacy or order. The first thing we noticed was that the site has a number of mobile homes...a lot. Two, you needed a long electric cable for the hook-up; three, there was a chemical waste disposal point in the middle of the field with only one hose for both toilet and fresh water! No grey water disposal, so most people let their waste flow freely downhill...making it quite soggy. Toilet block (near the entrance) had just two showers and two toilets (gents) for the whole site...completely inadequate and very poor.No monitoring of late-night noisy campers by staff and we left a day early. Disappointment

Hutchinson, Stuart - 07/05/2024

3 night visit - Tuesday to Friday.Surrounding area lovely.Hot showers.Quiet site.Well maintained site.Good area for dog walking.Beautiful views from pitch. However, was very disappointed with Willy's Bar, which was a major reason for booking this site. It was being built when I last stayed, so was really looking forward to having the facility on site.It was not open on the Tuesday and Wednesday night, and stopped serving before 8.30 pm on the Thursday. This was not made clear on the website or booking. Also the staff showed little interest in what they were doing. The facilities are great, but you need to be actually open and doing more to attract custom.

Fabulously located site with huge potential. No check in reception, no information given, cafe on site but permanently closed, toilet & shower block in poor location and needs regular cleaning. Hard standing pitches far too narrow. Lovely lakeside walk to Bassenthwaite Station cafe.
