Very accommodating, lovely friendly staff. Take out pizza was delicious 😋 Spotlessly clean 👌
We stayed 2 nights at the site. Access was easy, no check in. The information that we'd been sent was comprehensive and we found our site and amenities easilyGood position near Bassenthwaite lake - we had a lovely walk by the lake side.Facilities were clean.Value for money - Okay - a bit expensive.
Lovely site, clean and tidy. Whilst there is only 1 toilet block, it was always clean. Bistro was great and food lovely. The only diasppointkng thing was that you couldn’t take dogs into the bistro and there is very limited seating under cover outside.Great location within easy reach of plenty to do.
It’s a shame to not be greeted on arrival and have to go straight to the allocated pitch. I never found where I should get water from. There was no motorhome service point. The pitch was long and narrow with very little gravel either side once parked. The caravans surrounding me were seasonal and empty so the site felt very quiet and lonely. The main road was beside my pitch with bistro parking further on leading to a fair bit of non resident traffic. Not that anything happened, but I worried about the security of my paddle board/chair if I left them out. There was little to do at the site. I didn’t feel safe carrying my paddle board across the bridge to the lake access. There were no obvious walks from the site. The only positive was a bus stop directly outside. This site is definitely better suited to a caravan or someone willing to drive their motorhome out for the day. The super service pitches had good views, but 1-12 did not. There was a rally field open when I stayed.
Yet another enjoyable stay at Herdwick Croft. Usual fully serviced pitch which has great views and lots of space. Meal and drinks in the sites lovely Bar Bistro, another evening out in Keswick, and a third at the excellent Wheatsheif Inn just a couple miles away. Convenient for both the tourist Lake District and also the less often visited but equally beautiful Western Lakes of Loweswater, Ennerdale and Wastewater.
Site and lodge immaculate. Just a shame the bar wasn't open earlier in the week.
Very quiet, very clean site. Lodges have all that you need. Warm comfortable space which is very relaxing. Wish the cafe/ bar had been open more. Whinlatter and Crummock water were stunning. Lovely gallery and cafe combined at thornthwaite. Not really suitable for families with children but great for adults wanting a relaxing break.
Lovely clean site, really friendly staff. Toilet block in wrong location next to the static caravans or build another nearer to the tourers. Could do with a shop to buy essentials that you may run out off like milk or bread. Maybe a pizza oven or bbq on the terrace would be lovely to enjoy the lovely views from the bars terrace.
Lovely site, great staff. New bar and bistro great addition, opening times were a bit hit and miss when we were there. Toilets clean but only two and two showers in the gents, could lead to problems when site is busy as it is quite a big site. None of these points would put us off visiting again.
Herdwick cottage surpassed our expectations. A beautiful cottage finished to a very high standard, with high quality furnishings and tasteful decor. The kitchen was very well equipped and has a large American style fridge/freezer as well as a wine chiller. The dining room is a great social space for enjoying meals with friends/family around the 8 seater dining table. The weather was mixed on our visit but we managed to take advantage of the outdoor space to have a BBQ and a soak in the 2 jacuzzis. The surrounding area has a lot to offer too. Nice walks lead us to The Lakes Distillery where we had a nice Sunday lunch and Armathwaite Hall Hotel. Our last morning we had breakfast at Bassenthwaite Lake Station Cafe, which is a must. The restaurant is in the carriages of an old steam engine. (Apparently Murder on the Orient Express was filmed in the carriages) I cannot think of any negatives and would highly recommend Herdwick cottage.
