If you want to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Lake District, this is the place for you. The site is well laid out with plenty of open spaces for ball games/group activities. We enjoyed our stay, a point to note - the toilets/showers facilities are small with only two toilets and showers per side and currently there are no laundry facilities.
Premium pitches are outstanding with stunning views across to skiddaw and sale fell. Plenty of room for van car and awning Staff are friendly. Chemical disposal point quite close to the premium pitchesThe big downside is the toilet block. It is very outdated and is ok in terms of cleanliness but does require some tlc. The bistro was closed all weekend as there is no bar manager. A missed opportunity. For open water swimmers or kayakers there is an entry point to the lake literally 2 minutes away from the site entrance.
We found the park to well kept but were disappointed with the welfare facilities. Mainly due to the age, but also the lack of a laundry and limited washing up space. Two w/c’s and showers each, for the amount of people camping is not enough I think. But on the plus side everything else was good. The service pitch was great.
Great location. I thought it was a bit strange that the Bistro and Bar was open only 1 night especially school half term. Shower and toilet block a bit small. On the whole a good site and we'd definitely come back.
We stayed in Herdwick view cottage for a family holiday with our 4 grown up children and grandson. We had a brilliant holiday. Accommodation and weather was fantastic. We visited the Lake District Wildlife Park nearby and enjoyed time at Bassenthwaite lake. All a short walk from accommodation. We could not fault our stay and already looking to return as a group again. Perfect get together ❤️
Clearly a well maintained site with good pitches. But the shower block is small and feels dated and gloomy. As it was our second stay we were disappointed to find that the bistro was closed with no advanced warning. On our previous visit we had enjoyed being able to have a pizza and a drink. I hope the bistro can re-open soon.
Herdwick Croft is a pleasant relaxing site. Plot was very tidy and lovely location. However using the Ladies shower block wasn’t a pleasant experience. The floor looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. There were dead flies over the sinks and window sill. The water pressure was so low that it was really hard to shower, occasionally reduced to a trickle down the wall.
The camp site is in a brilliant location and the site and other campers were extremely friendly, the grounds are well kept. The big let down were the facilities, they were not cleaned the entire time we were there for a 3 night stay. The toilets / showers and sinks weren’t cleaned the entire time we were there (very noticeable the same rubbish on floor the whole time) a note on the door saying they are cleaned 2/3 times a day which clearly doesn’t happen. Most days there toilet roll ran out and wasn’t refilled unless you found someone on site to ask them. The cafe / bistro advertised was misleading as it was only a bar. Many of the campers we spoke to all said the same and commented how much the site has gone down hill. This is such a shame as for very little effort it could be an excellent site.
We have stayed here before and enjoyed it however the toilets and shower blocks were filthy this time and I haven't seen a worse state anywhere. The site looks lovely but the workers made that much noise with the chainsaw and dumper trucks from 8.30 the peace was shattered booked on for 3 nights came back after 1 a refund for the 2 nights we didn't satay would be very appreciated and BJS bistro wasn't open again
Stayed in wastwater Lodge, lodge was well equipped and spacious. Tv service was via Internet which was very hit and miss we had trouble connecting, situated in a nice area with plenty of places to visit close by. Onsite bistro was closed for the duration of our stay which was unexpected. We would visit again in the future
