Herdwick Croft is a lovely quiet site but we were so disappointed to find the bar and bistro were closed. The park has only just been taken over by a new company and things are not up and running. Toilets could be doing with an upgrade. Hopefully if w e return again the bar and bistro will be up and running.
Brilliant quiet site. Pitches were nice and love that there is water access on each hard standing pitch. Dog poo bins close by which is also a big bonus. Things to improve on - showers annoying with having to press button but other than that they were great and hot and clean enough.Shame restaurant wasn't open but understand the site has been taken over, this would of been good to be pointed out at time of booking or a discount rate for staying without those facilities. Would be great to be kept updated on this and great if dog friendly! Will be back with kids in future :)
The site was lovely, but we stayed at an unfortunate time, change over of management. There was no reception, and the facilities, toilets etc were adequate but are in need of updating and cleaning. I’m sure once the new owners get established it will be a great place to stay. Very convenient for Cockermouth and Keswick with a bus service just off site. We would definitely revisit.
Disappointment that Bistro closed as was hoping for ‘easy’ stay but fantastic location for hiking Wainwright!
We had a fantastic stay. The location was ideal for travelling out or local walks. The lodge was perfect for us, felt very comfortable and secluded. The small stream and surrounding trees and wildlife added to the overall stay. I would most certainly stay again and again.
Would have been nice to be told when we booked or even given an update that the park had been sold to another company and the bistro / bar was closed. Clearly didn't want to tell us incase we wanted a refund and didn't go !! As this was our main holiday of the year we were very disappointed in the customer service. Your not in walking distance ( without walking along busy main roads) to anything so not ideal.
When arriving the location was beautiful. It was very quiet and there was no one to great us and direct us. However this was all ready emailed to us. We set up on the hard standing pitch at the top of the hill. The site was immaculate. However we were not told that the bistro was closed for our entire stay and no one emailed to inform us of this. We only found out on our third day that the site was sold and the new owners were taking over. The showers and toilets weren’t cleaned for out entire stay as well this was disappointing. I would return as it is in a lovely place. But I feel there would have to be stuff on site as it is in the middle of no where and I wouldn’t feel comfortable walking in the roads to a local restaurant or bar.
We have stayed at herdwick a few times and is perfect for our plans
We had 3 nights booked, staying in a campervan with electric hook up. The site was well maintained for the static caravans and the grounds beautifully kept. However, facilities for campers, ie shower block and toilets let it down. They were filthy, sinks covered in dead flies, floors dirty, toilets dirty without toilet roll. There was also nothing on the website to say that the Bistro was shut/cafe. So, no morning coffee or breakfast rolls! Please give some thought to those without their own facilities. We only stayed 2 nights in the end and moved on. Great location and views.
Loved the location our pitch was stunning. The overall site looks tired many old and tatty statics and pitches.. toilet block disgusting stunk, dirty and very outdated. Very disappointed the bar and restaurant were not open.. no signage about what was going on and no response to messages left. A bit uncomfortable with the "self check in" literally anyone can drive on at any time unchallenged so if considering it make sure you take security for you vehicle.
