Nice location

Thompson, Stevi - 18/10/2024

The site location is perfect for accessing the northern lakes, the views from the lodges are second to none, especially on a nice day.Facilities in the lodges are okay, but it would be nice to have a coffee pod or two supplied so we could enjoy a brew without having to go out as soon as we arrived at 4pm. we forgot ours and Herdwick Willys bar didn’t have any to purchase, not a big deal but it would have been a nice touch, until we had chance to go to the nearest supermarket. Also, it’s a shame Herdwick Willys bar doesn’t allow dogs, as it meant we weren’t able to enjoy an evening in there, we came in summer and it didn’t matter because we sat outside, unfortunately it was too cold this time, but we visited Armathwaite Hall which is in walking distance who did allow dogs, so we enjoyed a social afternoon there instead. Would come back but only in summer so we can make use of the onsite bar.

Good site, shame about the facilities and lack of customer care

Gaunt, Jon - 16/10/2024

We made it very clear before we arrived that we would be late arriving at the site. Having not visited before we checked this and was told that we could book in with the restaurant when we got there. When we arrived the restaurant was closed and it was very dark. We had been given a good description of where to go so headed to the top field. The pitch number was not apparent and having walked around the field in the dark for a few minutes we felt the best course of action was to find a spare space and stop for the night. The following morning I tried calling the contact number again and received no answer. At 09:00 I felt it was important to try and speak to somebody at the site about where we had parked and ask where our pitch was as the telephone number appeared to not be operational. I found a man who appeared to work for the site who was incredibly helpful. He managed to speak to 'one of the bosses' who said that we had to move. We did, nobody ever called us back!

Nice base for a week away

Carter, Matthew - 08/10/2024

The Herdwick Croft Caravan Park is a good base for exploring the central and northern Lakes. I found that it was easy to get to a range of places within 30 mins. When I stayed the park was quiet so it lacked atmosphere but I would imagine it is better during the Summer months. The lodge was very well presented and was comfortable throughout. The hot tub felt a little exposed but you could get away with it.All in all a grest stay and experience.

Disappointed

Bibb, Jonathan - 08/10/2024

Positives...very clean, nice interior to lodges, hot tub, friendly staff ( when they could be found ) Negatives....difficult to contact staff , phone nit answered and messages not returned, no essentials like tea, coffee, sugar and salt in the kitchen , no welcome pack , rusty barbecue, the bar/restaurant was not open until Thursday ( why was this not on the website) . Overall, the lodge was nice but there were no facilities, no essentialsand no personal touches which we have experienced at other venues. We picked this location as there was a bar/restaurant on site but it was closed for three or the four days . No mention of that on the website. We felt abandoned as it was so difficult to get hold of the staff although they were very friendly and helpful when we did see them .

Returning camper

Adam, Stuart - 03/10/2024

The site was easily accessible and the hardstanding pitch was good. However, the stay was lacking the presence of staff to assist with any issues. The toilet block was not cleaned or monitored thus lacking in basic amenities. E.g toilet paper, hand soap and broken door brackets for hanging clothes.

3 night stay

Pearman, Philip - 02/10/2024

The actual park was lovely and well kept the shower and toilet facilities were poor and not well cleaned. The toilet cistern in one of the ladies toilets did not work so only one toilet could be used, this was reported but no action seemed to be taken. Overall the site is ok the price is high but the toilets and showers need to be updated as a matter of urgency as these let the site down.

Private and modern

Zegveldt, Lynn - 01/10/2024

We stayed in a new lodge overwater which had only been on the site for a couple of months. The Lodge was stunning, nicely decorated, very modern. This Lodge had a hot tub which we found very private which was great as there were no on lookers. We had a fantastic holiday and we’d definitely return. There was only one tiny point i’d like to add and that would be to supply a small bar of soap in both en-suites for arrival. This Lodge is self catering but toilet roll was supplied and soap wasn’t, in my opinion these items come hand in hand.

Just needs a few tweaks

Chapman, Liz - 27/09/2024

4

We were able to get a pitch on the Rally Field when most other sites were full. It was spacious and pitches marked out. It never got full and had nice views towards mountains. We used our caravan's facilities and imagine that the toilets/showers (2 ladies2gents) would be inadequate for those that didn't, in busy periods. There was no reception but the info we were sent with the booking informed us of everything we needed to know. There was no grey waste disposal and were told to let it drain under caravan. This did pool a bit so I think it would be better to ask people to empty containers into bushes or under trees. Some info on local walks from campsite would be helpful. We found a pleasant one following the river, and spotted one just as we were leaving. I did read some negative reviews of the site but think a lot are unjustified as people should use common sense if things aren't perfect.
