Beautiful site

Fothergill, Megan - 19/04/2024

5

Beautifully kept grounds, clean facilities, we were in a campervan so used the showers etc, lots of hot water and we even managed a drink in the bar even though they had really closed and it was just staff in there! Made to feel welcome, fabulous location and views from any pitch.

Great lodge

Neasmith, Laura - 16/04/2024

The park is easily accessible by car and also close to local towns such as Keswick and Cockermouth for supplies. The lodge itself is nicely decorated and really comfortable. The way they are set out meant that our lodge overlooked other lodges and not the view of the mountains which would have been nice. The lodge was well stocked with all the things you need, the beds were really comfy too! The main challenge we found with the park itself is that the Bistro was closed the entire time we were there (even when we expected it to be open). We had planned on eating out there but found it closed during the week and the one day we arrived they were closing the kitchen at 6pm even though they advertised as being open until 8pm. I think if we were to go again we would make sure we had enough food in and not rely on the bistro for food at all. The local attractions of the wildlife park, alpaca activity and Bassenthwaite Station were all great.

Exposed site, not great in bad weather

Beswick, Diane - 12/04/2024

I chose a spot on site which may have been great in good weather, however with gale force winds it was just far too exposed and I felt quite unsafe. I therefore rang the number included in the email sent to me to ask if there was another spot somewhere more sheltered. However the number was wrong ! Most frustrating. I went down to the bar to try and find someone who could help. The bar man was not particularly helpful to say the least and when I told him that the number given to me in the email was wrong and could he tell me what the correct number was, he said he only had private numbers and wasn't willing to give them our! I stayed until midnight when I finally gave up and drove into Keswick to find a sheltered spot to park up for the night! Not having anyone on site who could help in the event of queries etc, to me isn't acceptable and for that reason I won't return, along with the fact that the site is too exposed for my liking.

Clean and tidy but not quite right

Harris, Steve - 09/04/2024

Stayed for 1 night in our campervan on the way back down south from a week in Scotland. Check-in was not needed as we had paid online and were given the pitch number which was great. Disappointingly the bar (which lacks a little atmosphere anyway) does not allow dogs inside (something that we missed on their website but it does state so quite clearly, so our fault that we were disappointed). However, that meant that we had to sit outside for a drink, in the cold and rain, on the unheated patio area outside the bar, on our own whilst looking in at the folks inside the nice warm bar! This was such a shame as we'd been all over Scotland where so many establishments allow dogs inside (from pubs, bars as well as shops). I wasn't told the reason that dogs are not allowed, but on this basis I would find somewhere else for our next stay and not return. Toilet block is 250 yards from touring/camping field which is a bit of a trek and the mirrors in there are very low. Clean and tidy though.

Caters more for statics than tourers.

Brewin, David - 09/04/2024

3

On arrival the touring caravan field was very wet and our pitch was at the top of a slope. there was no camp site reception to go to for help. We phoned and were asked if we didn't have a 4 wheel drive car. eventually a very helpful man turned up and towed us to our pitch with the site vehicle. Toilets and showers were clean but basic. No seat in the shower which some older/ disabled people may need. The term Bistro is a loose term, we were looking forward to eating there but when we were there it was pizzas and paninis only. The opening hours in the evening are variable. We turned one night at 8 and they had stopped serving. The staff in the bistro were very pleasant and helpful. The location is good, near the lake/ distillery. Walks from the site. Staff are pleasant.

Site near to lake

Hendry, Gloria - 06/04/2024

4

Our pitch was good and we came on the recommendation of Jo and Dee. The toilets and showers were clean but I’d have thought that it would be better with another toilet block as there were only 2 toilets and 2 showers and if the site was full that was not goi g to be enough. The locks on the toilets and showers were old and metal bolts which I hurt my fingers on a few times trying to open them. The cafe was nice but we were a bit disappointed that they only sold pizza. I also thought that a reception area may have been good as there was nobody to ask about local amenities and things to do in the area etc.
