We stayed in Herdwick retreat for 4 nights, Monday to friday for the second time this year.It is a well appointed lodge with lovely views up to skiddaw from the hot tub.It is unfortunate that the bistro on site has only been open Thursday to Sunday during our stay but it is understandable due to the time of year. There are plenty of nice local pubs & restaurants nearby that served really good food and places that can deliver. The staff were extremely helpful during our stay.I am sure it won't be our last visit.
Wonderful views and nice set up at the site.Looked like a lovely bistro unfortunately dogs are not allowed and we therefore were unable to try it.
Lovely weekend with my son and dog. Good location very quiet and peaceful park. Willy's bar and bistro was great took full advantage of happy hour. Only downside to the park is the roads could do with been resurfacing as quite a few pot holes.
Second stay at this park and a bit dissapointed. The toilet/shower facilities were dirty and looked like they had never had a "deep clean".Didn't try Willys bistro this time as food times were too restrictive finishing at 5pm.I tried to contact staff on both mobile numbers, office number (which stated mailbox full!) and email leaving my mobile number. I wished to extend our stay by a further night but never received any response. It felt like it was "end of season" and they couldn't be bothered.
Second time staying here with 6 months in between. Interior seemed to have aged in that time. The shower was broken in the main bedroom which was fixed, but had also messaged about screws sticking up in the thresh in the main bedroom and the patio door at the front had to be lifted up to close. Fairly disappointing that dogs are not allowed in willys bistro when the accommodation is pet friendly. As well as willys is only open over the weekend. Great base for walking etc and would genuinely recommend to stay here.
Site easily accessible with excellent location especially for walkers. Only staff we met was kirsty on arrival who was very friendly and helpful. We were staying Monday to Friday and the café/bar was only open from 3pm on the Thursday. No shop on site so nearest supermarket is either Keswick or Cockermouth. The locks on the lodge were very stiff and need some attention, also no bedside cabinets or a microwave!! Overall we had an excellent stay and very impressed with the lodge.
Lovely relaxed environment and view of skiddaw..Light broken in wash room and drain cover remains cracked in shower since a year ago.Taps terrible in wash rooms, spray everywhere .Mirror too low in washroom.
We brought our small touring caravan for a two week stay at Herdwick Croft in October. The site was very quiet and we were the only caravan on the grass pitches. This made it difficult for us to see where we should pitch, especially as the electric power was a distance from our allocated area. We asked for help, which we got promptly, and pitched closer to the power. Water disposal facilities were nearby although the toilets and showers are a little further by the entrance. It rained a lot and the grass got very wet so next time we would go for hardstanding. My wife felt the showers were not acceptable although I did use them and the water was way too hot with no temperature control. The pub is nice but doesn’t allow dogs inside which we were surprised about given the dog friendly nature of the area. The site is very well situated to explore the lakes but would benefit from some kind of basic reception office perhaps. Overall a good clean site but we did have reservations about it.
Site is very tidy and well looked after, but after that it goes down hill. We were staying on hard standing which is only wide enough for the caravan which means you have to walk on the grass and mud to get in and out. The hook up is on 6/10 amp very poor for the price of a pitch. We never did find a tap or grey waste water disposal. We used the tap on on what is a seasonal pitch with out a van on it. Asked in bar about grey waste told to follow signs for something or other went twice in search but never did find it. Also rang both telephone numbers but no answer and no call back. The local distillery is wet worth a visit.
We enjoyed our stay. It was quiet and not many people staying when we were there. We would have gone to the pub but it doesn't take dogs inside, think this is a mistake when the site allows dogs
