Recognised with a 5 AA Platinum Pennant and a 5-star rating from Visit England, Herding Hill Farm caters to campers, glampers, and touring enthusiasts alike.
The campsite boasts a prime location, offering easy access to the historic Hadrian's Wall, a World Heritage Site since 1987. The Wall and its surroundings provide a breathtaking backdrop for outdoor enthusiasts, promising hours and days of unforgettable exploration. Families with children of all ages will find the area rich in attractions, with stunning views and natural wilderness to inspire the adventurer in everyone.
Accommodation options at Herding Hill are diverse, welcoming tents, touring vehicles, and those seeking a touch of luxury in glamping pods, wigwam cabins or a luxury lodge, complete with outdoor hot tub.
The campsite's amenities building is a testament to its commitment to comfort. The luxury 5-star facilities include under-floor heating, ensuring a cosy atmosphere regardless of the weather. Free hot power showers and toilets are available in both men's and ladies' facilities, with the latter featuring two baths, perfect for a relaxing soak after a day of exploring Hadrian's Wall. Families can also enjoy the convenience of a private family bathroom/shower room, equipped with a bathtub, shower, WC, and baby change.
For those seeking relaxation, an 8-person unisex sauna is tucked away in a private corner of the amenities building, available for exclusive use at a nominal fee. Additionally, an indoor information and camper's kitchen area provides campers and glampers the flexibility to prepare meals indoors when the Northumberland weather is less forgiving. The space includes sinks, a kettle, a microwave, tables, chairs, and vending machines for hot drinks and confectionery.
Laundry needs are met with an extended laundry room featuring coin-operated washing machines and tumble dryers, available for a small fee. An indoor Elsan waste disposal point and a dedicated hot water dog wash, new for 2023, enhance the convenience for campers and their furry friends.
Families with young children will appreciate the large, enclosed play area, complete with a fort, toddler's pirate ship, disc swing, and safety-enhancing play bark. The focus on safety extends to the petting farm, where campers can interact with rabbits, guinea pigs, alpacas, a donkey, goats, a Shetland pony, and piglets, fostering a sense of connection to the campsite's friendly animal residents.
A licensed shop on-site stocks a selection of local produce and convenience items, including personal hygiene products, local ales, wine, ice cream, confectionery, and BBQ meat packs.
Connectivity is not forgotten at Herding Hill, with free Wi-Fi available throughout the campsite. Despite the rural location, recent upgrades and strategically placed masts enhance the quality of the internet connection, though guests should be mindful of potential variability in broadband speed, especially during peak occupancy.

This is a great site! Spotlessly clean with welcoming staff. A great location for exploring Hadrians Wall and the local Roman history. I have no complaints and will return 👍
What a great site, fantastic location, well maintained grounds/ buildings and lovely friendly and helpful staff. The bus stopping at the campsite is really great way to get around. I’ll be back.
Very clean site and excellent shower block I stayed in basic pod with dog ..a eye bolt on or near outside table would be great to secure dog lead to As would outside shower block Price was £50 for the pod You can get a twin room in a pub in town fir £50 on b&b as well ...but I liked the ruralness of the campsite Beware if you have a dog the milecastle inn is a nice 10 mins walk if that but does not take dogs in at all fir even a beer Overall a great place
Very friendly great location and fantastic facilities
Would definitely come again. Pod was great. Impressed with the excellent facilities - the shower room was well maintained and absolutely spotless. Stunning hillside views and as an added bonus, there’s a great pub with food only 10 minutes walk away. And the staff were friendly and helpful too.
Just stayed here for one night and we wished we had booked for an extra night as we had such a lovely time! Visited here as a family of three with our dog and throughly enjoy it! Lovely clean glamping pods, lovely little farm and also a park for children! We will definitely be booking to visit again! 😊
I love Herding Hill Farm camping. We were in a campervan the weather wasn’t great but it was nice but that didn’t matter. Lots of places to visit all around. But the campsite itself is just lovely. Not big nice and small, intimate amazing bathroom and showers, even has a bath. And for £5, you can have a sauna privately hired. What more could you want after walking in the rain and the hills. It has a small amount of supplies, animals and beautiful views. I love this place.
Lovely warm welcome - knowledgable staff - awesome site and facilities - so quiet - pub within walking distance and most importantly an excellent base for walking Hadrians wall including sycamore gap and so many other historic museums and sites accessible by bus which stops at camp site - excellent value for money- will be back
Warm and pleasant greeting by reception on arrival. Site is safe and secure. Toilet and shower block clean and great water pressure in the shower. A short walk away is a lovely small pub who served us a great meal.We only used this site as a stopover but we would return again. Great for families with kids.
We've been before in a family pod but this time we stayed in one of the castle pods and it was fantastic. The pod was very well equipped. Everything is thought of, you literally just need to take food/drink and clothes every else is provided for you. I paid for the celebration package so on arrival there was fairy lights on and inside there was balloons and banners on the wall, which my husband loved. We loved the hot tub and how private it was. All the staff that we came across were very friendly and professional. I paid for the star gazing kit and it was worth it just for the reclining chairs alone, was fab lying back on them while star gazing. The site itself is immaculate and the shop well stocked for any extra bits.We are already planning a return next October.
