Holme Valley Camping & Caravan Park

4.7 (316 reviews)

An idyllic escape on the fringes of the Peak District. Set in a tranquil valley, this family-run park spans 16 acres of lush woodland and meadows, providing a picturesque setting for budget-friendly getaways. Committed to sustainability, the park actively preserves local wildlife and their habitats. Notably, the site has served as a filming location for the iconic "Last of the Summer Wine" series.

Situated on the fringes of the picturesque Peak District, Holme Valley beckons those seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life without breaking the bank. This family-run park spans three generations and is committed to preserving the natural beauty of the valley. Nestled amidst 16 acres of enchanting woodlands and meadows, it serves as an idyllic haven for nature enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers.

The park boasts a variety of pitches thoughtfully scattered along the riverbanks, lakeside, among the trees, and within the meadows. Each pitch is unique, providing guests with the freedom to choose a setting that aligns with their preferences. Whether you desire the soothing sounds of the river or the tranquillity of a meadow, Holme Valley Camping and Caravan Park ensures a personalised experience for all.

For those who prefer a touch of luxury without compromising the outdoor experience, Holme Valley offers glamping accommodations. Perfect for those hesitant to sleep under canvas, these options provide home comforts in a natural setting. It's an ideal choice for those who wish to elevate their outdoor holiday experience.

The park's recent addition of an award-winning amenities block elevates the camping experience. Tiled throughout with underfloor heating, the block features spacious showers, a vanity area with hair dryers, and baby-changing facilities. Three large family bathrooms offer a touch of opulence and can be hired daily. The park ensures that campers feel at home with a second spacious shower block equipped for wheelchair users, providing convenience throughout the park.

A small licensed shop, often hailed as well-stocked as a supermarket, caters to camper needs. From everyday essentials like bread and baked beans to unexpected finds like sewing kits and storage bags, the shop aims to be a one-stop destination. In the absence of a desire to cook on a camping stove, three nearby pubs and the charming town of Holmfirth, a mere mile away, offer alternative dining options.

Encouraging children to embrace the outdoors, a new play area built in 2022 provides ample space for biking, ball games, and woodland adventures such as den building, nature trails, and hide'n'seek. A willow tunnel at the far end of the New Field adds an enchanting touch, and a nature trail booklet from the shop or reception ensures that young explorers don't miss out on the wonders around them.

Recognizing the unpredictability of weather, the park offers practical solutions. Washing machines, a dryer, and ironing facilities in the laundry room come to the rescue when rain or mud strikes. Two washing up areas and two chemical toilet disposal points further enhance the convenience for campers.

In a nod to sustainability and evolving technology, Holme Valley has embraced electric vehicles. The park now features a charge point for electric cars located conveniently outside the shop/reception at the entrance, catering to environmentally conscious trave

Surprising venue, best of family facilities

Carter, Andy - 26/04/2025

5

Set in a beautiful wooded valley floor the campsite is actually surrounded by two small towns. However it is ideal for families with the very best of facilities to rival anywhere in Europe. Nicely built and new Toilet/showers, washing up, playground, crazy golf, shop and food stall all made of wood and local stone. Four public footpaths lead out in every direction up the local hills and along the river, nearby Holmfirth is a lovely place with unusual shops and lots of good food. Easy drive into the Pennine walking areas or Huddersfield

Excellent Easter camping trip

Furness, Pam - 26/04/2025

First time on this site. Camped in two tents with friends on non electric field as all hook up pitches were booked up. Toilet blocks and facilities excellent and very clean. The little hut on site where in mornings you can get breakfast and evenings pizza or burgers was great and was good not to have to cook on the final day which was a wet pack up. Friendly staff, lots of info on local walks, pubs and local things to do.We will definitely be paying another visit.

Great Site for a Motorhome Stop

Kelly, Bryan - 25/04/2025

5

We stayed on a riverside pitch in our 7.4m motorhome, our friends on a pond-side pitch in a similar motorhome and friends in the top area in a caravan. All pitches were level and spacious. The campsite is kept impeccably clean and the toilet/shower facilities amongst the best I have used on a UK campsite - absolutely spotless all day and with unlimited hot water!Whilst we diodn't use the wider facilities, there is a small shop stocking essentials open every day and a counter serving hot food (breakfast rolls, teas and coffees etc.) open on weekend morning (not sure if it is open mid-week) - there was always a queue so I'm assuming what it sold was good! For children there is lots of open space and a playground - again, we are slightly too old to have used it but it look very well maintained and was getting lots of use...The site is a 30-40min stroll into Holmfirth either by road or a slightly longer walk through the local woods. There are free maps available for other local walk

It's a bit like Centre Parcs

Alderson, Pam - 22/04/2025

Friendly reception, great location, river behind and fishing pond in front. Toilets were immaculately cleaned by very cheerful lady. Granddaughter had a great time in very safe environment. Walk through the woods to Holmfirth was fun but for a couple of pensioners definitely advise walking back via road. We were early in the year and not everything was open. Kingfisher and Heron spotted on river.

Looked good on the website

Wailes, Nichola - 21/04/2025

It was too close to a main road to not hear traffic, not being able to have a fire made it cold on a night .Half of the park was cordoned off so the children were restricted. Our children went to get golf clubs at 3 and they wouldn’t give them to them as they closed at 5 two hours from the time it closed .The crazy bugs only come on a weekend leaving not much happening during the week. And the cafe not being open until Thursday even during Easter holidays.

Response from the owner

25 April 2025

Thank you for your feedback - it's very disappointing to hear you had problems while you were staying. We have made sure it's very clear on our website and on booking emails that we don't allow fires on the park as we know lots of people do enjoy a fire while camping. I am sorry if you didn't see this. While you were staying, unfortunately we had underground pipes which were leaking and had to be fixed immediately. These were situated under part of the play area, however the maintenance staff only had to cordon off 1 piece of play equipment which left the children in there both the climbing frame and swing to play on. Some members of staff worked both overtime and on their days off so as to minimize the impact on guests. Unfortunately, from time to time, these problems do occur - I'm sorry it happened to take place during your stay.We do our best to inform guests about the activities, events and food we have on the park before and during their stay. The opening times for the Adventure Golf, Crazi-Bugz and Camping Stove food cabin are all displayed around the park. As the park is much quieter during weekdays over Easter, some facilities are expensive to staff - again, I'm sorry this affected your stay. During the week, we are always happy to advise guests on activities available and also supply this information in an email in the run up to your stay. Kind regards, Naomi
