Recognised with a 5 AA Platinum Pennant and a 5-star rating from Visit England, Herding Hill Farm caters to campers, glampers, and touring enthusiasts alike.
The campsite boasts a prime location, offering easy access to the historic Hadrian's Wall, a World Heritage Site since 1987. The Wall and its surroundings provide a breathtaking backdrop for outdoor enthusiasts, promising hours and days of unforgettable exploration. Families with children of all ages will find the area rich in attractions, with stunning views and natural wilderness to inspire the adventurer in everyone.
Accommodation options at Herding Hill are diverse, welcoming tents, touring vehicles, and those seeking a touch of luxury in glamping pods, wigwam cabins or a luxury lodge, complete with outdoor hot tub.
The campsite's amenities building is a testament to its commitment to comfort. The luxury 5-star facilities include under-floor heating, ensuring a cosy atmosphere regardless of the weather. Free hot power showers and toilets are available in both men's and ladies' facilities, with the latter featuring two baths, perfect for a relaxing soak after a day of exploring Hadrian's Wall. Families can also enjoy the convenience of a private family bathroom/shower room, equipped with a bathtub, shower, WC, and baby change.
For those seeking relaxation, an 8-person unisex sauna is tucked away in a private corner of the amenities building, available for exclusive use at a nominal fee. Additionally, an indoor information and camper's kitchen area provides campers and glampers the flexibility to prepare meals indoors when the Northumberland weather is less forgiving. The space includes sinks, a kettle, a microwave, tables, chairs, and vending machines for hot drinks and confectionery.
Laundry needs are met with an extended laundry room featuring coin-operated washing machines and tumble dryers, available for a small fee. An indoor Elsan waste disposal point and a dedicated hot water dog wash, new for 2023, enhance the convenience for campers and their furry friends.
Families with young children will appreciate the large, enclosed play area, complete with a fort, toddler's pirate ship, disc swing, and safety-enhancing play bark. The focus on safety extends to the petting farm, where campers can interact with rabbits, guinea pigs, alpacas, a donkey, goats, a Shetland pony, and piglets, fostering a sense of connection to the campsite's friendly animal residents.
A licensed shop on-site stocks a selection of local produce and convenience items, including personal hygiene products, local ales, wine, ice cream, confectionery, and BBQ meat packs.
Connectivity is not forgotten at Herding Hill, with free Wi-Fi available throughout the campsite. Despite the rural location, recent upgrades and strategically placed masts enhance the quality of the internet connection, though guests should be mindful of potential variability in broadband speed, especially during peak occupancy.

We stayed for one night in our camper on our way to Scotland and loved it. Wished we’d had longer! The facilities are immaculately clean and very modern - even has a super hairdryer. The lady who checked us in was very friendly and gave us a lovely welcome. It’s also very handy for Hadrian’s Wall - we walked about 30 mins and reached Cawfields, so very easy. Overall we’d highly recommend this place.
A wonderful site with open sky’s and stunning views and close to so much history, shower block and amenities spotless and helpful friendly staff. Will be back!
Friendly welcome, efficient admin, great - and exceptionally clean - facilities, lovely well-thought-out campsite with plenty of space for all users, beautiful location
We stayed for one night in a wigwam with running water. We have a 10 year old so felt the toilet feature and heating (in April) was much needed. Arrived to check in to find the reception shop well stocked and reasonably priced. Our wigwam was clean and we hired the deluxe pack which included bedding, a full set of crockery and even washing up liquid. We also hired a gas fire pit but the weather was not condusive to use it unfortunately. The amenties were spotless and well set out. We will be booking to return in the summer; I would happily use one of the large electric grass pitches but my partner has opted for another wigwam with running water but this time with a hot tub.
We arrived in bad weather unfortunately but the pitch was fully serviced and hard standing so that made it easier in the rain. The kitchen area is a godsend in bad weather with a microwave, toaster and kettle. The toilets/showers/baths are the best we have ever seen! Heated flooring, music playing and showers that don’t go off every 5 seconds. My kids loved that they could have a bath. The laundry room is fully equipped but sadly the dryer was out of order when we visited which would have come in handy with all the rain but that was the only negative. The animals on site were a lovely addition and my kids loved visiting them. We brought our dog and he received a little treat bag on arrival and there was a dog shower to use too. I would highly recommend this site to anyone. It’s within walking distance of Hadrians wall too and on a bus route. We will definitely visit again, hopefully in better weather.
Fantastic site, great facilities, quiet, well situated for exploring along the wall. Highly recommend
First visit to this site despite it not being far away from us.If arriving from the A68 you will have to negotiate a bit of a steep hill to get to the site. It’s not a particularly difficult approach but it’s worth knowing. We went because we had our young grandson with us and there were animals on site as well as an adventure playground. He could help with feeding the animals at 8.30 and about 5.00. Due to the inclement weather that we experienced, he only managed it once, but enjoyed it very much. The facilities were spotless and warm. In the male washroom there were three toilets and three showers and a couple of washbasins. In the female washwashroom there were two baths as well as showers. This pleased our grandson very much as he hates showers. We thought it was an excellent site and intend to visit again.
Stopped here on our way to Scotland. It is so well planned. Lovely long dog walk field, plus another's secure field which I could let my deaf dog off in. Super views from dog walk area. They have a lovely large room with tables and chairs, games, microwave! Showers and toilets super. Stars amazing.
