Nice enough and excellent facilities but the site is tight for space in the fully serviced areas leaving precious little outside space to sit in once your awning is up and the car is parked. You are also quite close to the neighbours opposite with a very enclosed outlook. Other than that well positioned for Hadrians Wall visits and lots of good walking opportunities. Dogs also well catered for with generous off lead space.
Herding hill farm was the best campsite my friends and I have stayed in. I was in the Castle pod with hot tub - it was clean, warm, very well equipped and had amazing views. Everyone was so friendly both staff and other campers. There’s a special field for dogs to go off lead. And the farm animals really made it for me - Coco the donkey , Robin the Shetland pony, the pigs and chickens. Is really recommend it.
A delightful small campsite nestled in the heart of beautiful Northumberland countryside. Sheep and lambs on one side, a donkey, pony, pigs, alpacas on another side. Rabbits and chicken on another. Friendly and helpful staff. Warm, clean toilets and showers block. Warm and sheltered room for washing up which doubles up as a communal room too. Bus runs from just outside the site every two hours. The bus runs to Hexham but on route you can get off at the many stops for Hadrians Wall, Sycamore Gap, Roman Forts etc. There is also a lovely cosy pub selling food( you have to book) just five minutes walk. I would definitely return to this site😊
Great site, new staff are lovely. It felt a bit busier than when we have been before, this was due to a couple of pods who knew each other, but no issues, no noise after 10.45.
2nd visit and every bit as goid as the 1st ,facilities of high standard ,every member of staff exceptional, professional but friendly. Great walk along the river near the train station .Visit to Jubilee dog friendly pub ,immaculate and also friendly £7.10:for 2 ginand lemonade .Sign outside says no dogs but they are allowed .
We thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful stay here during early May for 3 nights in our motorhome whilst walking the wall. Very good AD22 bus service by the site. Great showering facilities- warm building and powerful showers. Beautiful setting and enjoyed meeting the animals on site whilst walking the mowed areas through the site. Appears well suited for dog owners too with walks, bins and bags. Spacious plots. Large community room with microwave etc. Laundry room for £4 wash and £3.50 dry (two drys and washing still not dry though!) which is very handy. Friendly staff. The luxurious end of the site looks very nice!
Loved staying here. Setting so peaceful. Fabulous views & walks from the site and many more within 5 minutes drive. . Ideal for visiting Hadrian's Wall, Sycamore Gap, Vindolanda, The Roman Army museum etc. Kielder and Newcastle within easy reach. The dog walk and secure dog field were great.complete with ball launchers and dog bins with poo bags around the site.Campers well catered for with an information room equipped with tables and chairs microwave kettle and toaster and self serve machines for drinks and snacks. Even spotted a high chair.Kids will love the rare breed pigs, Alpacas, chickens , donkey and Shetland pony.Staff were very friendly and helpful and facilities spotless.Looking forward to our return.
I'm not a camper, however the spouse and close friends love it. So they will scout for places that have a glamping or cabin situation for me. This was an awesome place. Clean, organized, great for families and everyone we encountered super helpful. The cabin was spacious, clean and very importantly the bed was comfy. Great views and if it were a clear night I could imagine the star gazing : ) Will come back again, we really enjoyed ourselves.
I’ve stayed at herding hill before and in some ways I don’t want to sing it’s praises too much because I don’t want it booked up next time I go 😁 The first time I stayed I thought I’d misread the sign, but no, it really does say “sauna”. Showers are hot and toilet block clean and near the pitches. Pitches are generous and nicely private from your neighbours. Pizzas on Friday nights are to die for. Pub is just down the road. And best of all, despite all these fab facilities, the staff are relaxed and not “up themselves”. You feel welcome here.
Lovely campsite, nothing to improve other than how people use the sauna and the hot tubs and keeping their dog on a lead around their accommodation. The use of the sauna by a female made the floor of the ladies very wet - toilet, sink & shower area - perhaps ask people to use a towel or provide robe and flip flops? The hot tubs would be less intrusive if they were on a timer - say 20 mins - then stopped for a 10min respite. I was unlucky that the nearest one to me unusually ran for 2+hrs in the evening. Still a lovely stay and would return 100%. Great with the bus stop directly outside but buses may be early or late. Can't wait for my next stay.
