Recognised with a 5 AA Platinum Pennant and a 5-star rating from Visit England, Herding Hill Farm caters to campers, glampers, and touring enthusiasts alike.
The campsite boasts a prime location, offering easy access to the historic Hadrian's Wall, a World Heritage Site since 1987. The Wall and its surroundings provide a breathtaking backdrop for outdoor enthusiasts, promising hours and days of unforgettable exploration. Families with children of all ages will find the area rich in attractions, with stunning views and natural wilderness to inspire the adventurer in everyone.
Accommodation options at Herding Hill are diverse, welcoming tents, touring vehicles, and those seeking a touch of luxury in glamping pods, wigwam cabins or a luxury lodge, complete with outdoor hot tub.
The campsite's amenities building is a testament to its commitment to comfort. The luxury 5-star facilities include under-floor heating, ensuring a cosy atmosphere regardless of the weather. Free hot power showers and toilets are available in both men's and ladies' facilities, with the latter featuring two baths, perfect for a relaxing soak after a day of exploring Hadrian's Wall. Families can also enjoy the convenience of a private family bathroom/shower room, equipped with a bathtub, shower, WC, and baby change.
For those seeking relaxation, an 8-person unisex sauna is tucked away in a private corner of the amenities building, available for exclusive use at a nominal fee. Additionally, an indoor information and camper's kitchen area provides campers and glampers the flexibility to prepare meals indoors when the Northumberland weather is less forgiving. The space includes sinks, a kettle, a microwave, tables, chairs, and vending machines for hot drinks and confectionery.
Laundry needs are met with an extended laundry room featuring coin-operated washing machines and tumble dryers, available for a small fee. An indoor Elsan waste disposal point and a dedicated hot water dog wash, new for 2023, enhance the convenience for campers and their furry friends.
Families with young children will appreciate the large, enclosed play area, complete with a fort, toddler's pirate ship, disc swing, and safety-enhancing play bark. The focus on safety extends to the petting farm, where campers can interact with rabbits, guinea pigs, alpacas, a donkey, goats, a Shetland pony, and piglets, fostering a sense of connection to the campsite's friendly animal residents.
A licensed shop on-site stocks a selection of local produce and convenience items, including personal hygiene products, local ales, wine, ice cream, confectionery, and BBQ meat packs.
Connectivity is not forgotten at Herding Hill, with free Wi-Fi available throughout the campsite. Despite the rural location, recent upgrades and strategically placed masts enhance the quality of the internet connection, though guests should be mindful of potential variability in broadband speed, especially during peak occupancy.

We brought our granddaughters for one night stayed in a pod that slept 5 and had a toilet we paid for the deluxe pack aswell which was worth it we had a great time the girls fed the animals and made lots of friends. The facilities were spotless I had a shower the girls had a bath such a lovely site it’s our 2nd time here last time we came as 3 adults with a hot tub we will definitely return
Had the most amazing weekend the site is fabulous well looked after and clean the castle pod we stayed in was beautiful really clean and tidy lovely furnishings comfy bed, everything needed for a weekend was there. The hot tub was brilliant and the views were amazing in every direction perfect place to go if you want to get away for some peace and quiet only thing we heard was the sheep in the next field also brilliant if you want a walking or exploring get away ideal for either we wanted a relaxing get away as I just got out of hospital not one complaint . Thank you Herding Hill farm we will be back.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Amenities (inc heated floor in men's wash rooms) were excellent! You can even have a bath or sauna if required. Pitches for motorhomes were massive. Site is very picturesque. Inside dish washing facilities are inside as well as outside, helps on cold days! Shop which was open until 5 pm has good stock of refreshments and limited food. Bus that goes into Haltwhistle stops right outside site but its only 25 mins walk if you prefer. Really enjoyed our overnight stay. Well done.
Spotlessly clean heated toilet and shower facilities with plentiful hot water. Much appreciated heated campers’ dining room with kettle, toaster and microwave. Warm welcome. Well defined tent pitches. Good to see all waste is sorted for recycling. Good base for cycling.
Lovely pod, clean tidy and warm. Lovely site! Even though I was on my own with my daughter I still felt extremely safe. Really impressed returning with weekend with my partner and daughter.
well kept, excellent facilities, friendly approachable staff
Great site, facilitators and location. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Dog friendly with plenty of walks.
I was a volunteer on the local archaeology dig. Given the fickle British weather I wanted good facilities to return to each evening. Herding Hill definitely ticked all the boxes. Great hot showers and a good indoor washing up area with toaster, kettle and microwave.Pitch was quite sheltered and I enjoyed watching the lambs pestering their mothers in the field behind my camper van.Nice staff and small shop. Can't recommend highly enough.
We spent 2 nights at Herding hill farm and were super impressed with the facilities. Everything has been so well thought through, clean, and well designed. It was also brilliant for our dogs which made life so much easier for us! The owners were super friendly and helpful and we would thoroughly recommend to anyone exploring the area and walking Hadrians wall.
Second visit to Herding Hill as it is such a great site. Friendly welcome on arrival and incredibly well looked after, clean and tidy. Stunning location with great access to lots of walks and countryside. Would definitely return again in the future as can’t fault it at all.
