Herding Hill Touring, Camping & Glamping Site

Park Description

The campsite setting couldn't be more breathtaking. The wide open spaces and rolling hills form the backdrop to the attractive campsite which nestles amongst the stone walls and hills. We are situated in the Heart of Hadrians Wall Country close to the Housesteads and Vindolanda Roman forts, just a mile from Hadrian's Wall. Come and discover this fantastic area of cultural history, amazing walks, stunning and varied landscapes and fantastic wildlife. Be enthralled by our dark skies, fabulous stars, breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, rainbows, and our massive open spaces.

Herding Hill Farm was described by the Independent Newspaper as "A friendly site that lies in an idyllic spot above the small town of Haltwhistle in Northumberland, close to Hadrian’s Wall. The site is well maintained, the children’s play area is outstanding and the toilet and shower block would put many a hotel to shame!"

We offer a range of dog-friendly accommodation options, from spacious grass tent pitches with electric through to serviced touring pitches. In addition we have a range of glamping pods, our wooden Wigwam cabins, some of which have toilets, running water and outdoor private hot tubs, perfect for star gazing. There is also a luxury lodge with its own outdoor hot tub (no dogs). New for 2020, 2 stylish newly converted VW T6 campervans are the perfect choice for those seeking a Northumberland road trip or short break away and one of these is pet friendly for a small dog.

A BBQ hut is available for hire as well as gas BBQ and fire bowls to enable you to watch the stars from the comfort of your own pitch. Our children's petting farm has a donkey, pig, Shetland pony, 3 alpacas as well as goats, rabbits, hens and guinea pigs.

Opening Dates

Open all year round apart from a 3-week closure in January

"Lovely site in a great location"

Mr S Day - Stayed Jul 2021

I Stayed for 2 nights so I could walk along a section of Hadrian's wall. The site staff were lovely and the touring pitch was very good, with excellent toilet blocks / showers. It was an easy walk to the wall and there is a pub within walking distance.

The hosts were fabulous and very approachable, helpful on what to do and where and also were quick to ensure silence post 10. 30pm. Very dog friendly. Neat tidy and friendly site...will return to see more of Hadrians Wall.

Once again we enjoyed a relaxing stay on this welcoming, friendly and relaxing campsite. The facilities were immaculate and checked regularly. We were well placed to visit the Hadrian Wall attractions in our Motorhome but could have walked to the nearest section of wall or caught a bus at the campsite gate. The Milecastle Inn is a 10 minute walk away serving good food and drink with excellent views. Incredible weather on this stay too can’t wait for a return trip

"Excellent stay"

Mrs E Maughan - Stayed with family, Jul 2021

Of all the wooden pods we have stayed in before this was the best for space, location and facilities. The surrounding area is lovely with lots to do and see. Haltwhistle outdoor pool is just around the corner as are the Hadrian’s wall walks. The site is friendly and peaceful, facilities were clean and safe for the kids to play. The staff were very helpful and nothing was a problem. We can’t wait to go back.

"Lovely Big Touring Pitches"

Mr S Spence - Stayed with partner, Jul 2021

A great place to stay. Views are fantastic. Hadrians wall close by. Lovely clean facilities and plenty of room at each pitch. With no craming in as many tourers tents etc as possible. Great pub with meals only a short walk away. 🤩

"The Centre of Britain!"

Initially we chose this campsite due to it's close proximity to sections of Hadrian's Wall we wanted to visit but we were very impressed with the site itself. It has been well designed for touring and static pods and the on-site staff were really helpful and friendly.... It has been well designed for touring and static pods and the on-site staff were really helpful and friendly. I particularly liked this site for the views, the modern clean facilities and it is not too big. There are some farm animals around which is nice for little children and the walk down the burn to Haltwhistle is lovely.

"Hadrian’s Wall Getaway"

Mrs A Gammon - Stayed with partner, Jul 2021

I had a lovely stay with my husband along side my sister and her boyfriend in an adjacent camping pod! It was a really friendly and quiet campsite right on the doorstep to Hadrian’s Wall. I would definitely go back!
