You can camp directly on the beach in one of the most beautiful locations in the UK. If you're lucky with the weather as we were, you can swim in the sea every day! Decamping in the evening to the sand dunes to watch the sunset and eventually see the Milky Way was a privilege we had almost every night and we had the most amazing time! Facilities extend to just a single water tap in the corner of the campsite and toilets are a bit of a trek for some, so it's a bit of a pain, but where else can you stay directly on the beach? We brought a battery operated shower and collapsible water bucket, which allowed us to stay clean during our one-week stay. I'd recommend innovations such as this, to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Next year, we'll be bringing a smaller tent, as we (understandably) got in trouble for having such a large one this year. Most people on the site tend to have windbreaks and chairs spilling several metres beyond their pitches, so I think it's more about what's attached to/physically part of your tent, rather than how much space you take up - our tent has a huge awning which goes beyond the pitch size. In other words, don't turn up with an enormous tent - the pitch size is 4m x 4m and your tent must not exceed this. Due to the campsite's location among beach huts, it's important that a good relationship with the beach huts' owners is maintained, so keeping to the pitch sizes, staying off/away from the huts and observing quiet times is essential. The beach hut owners are all incredibly friendly and tolerant of the space being occupied by the campsite for the 6 weeks of the year it is open. This is a family-friendly and quiet campsite - this means kids going to bed early and getting up before 8AM, running around, having the times of their lives. If you want to stay up late and play music, simply walk along the sand dunes out of ear/eye-shot of the campsite, put some earplugs in when you go to bed and all will be well. Amanda who is on-site several times a day is extremely nice and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The campsite owners offer delivery of croissants, pains au chocolat, milk and bacon - just put your order in at the site office (one of the beach huts) and it'll all be delivered at 8am the following morning! Overall, we had an amazing time and hope to return next year (with a smaller tent!)!

"Beautiful location"

Amazingly helpful and friendly staff, my children and I had a wonderful stay here. Worth noting that you cannot park at the site, so need to carry all camping gear from nearby car park. There is a wheelbarrow to help with moving stuff.

We stayed at the beach campsite for 4 nights over the bank holiday weekend which is as long as I could manage without a shower! Booking the pitch over the phone was easy and they were very helpful. The welcome was friendly and we pitched up easily with the help of the campsite’s wheelbarrow to carry the tent from the car park to the site. There is public access to the site but everyone was friendly and respectful. We had a wonderful time swimming in the sea and watching the stars on the beach at night. The sea has bioluminescent creatures in the water at night which was exciting for the children. We enjoyed early morning walks to the local deli who had lovely coffee. We walked to Southwold and caught the rowing boat to shorten the journey. This was a magical holiday made even better by glorious weather. This is not a campsite for those who like creature comforts but if you like to fall asleep to the sound of the sea and don’t mind a bit of a walk to the loo, then you will love it. I can’t wait to come back xx

"Walberswick idyll"

Mrs S Smithson - Stayed with family, Aug 2019

If you are looking for an idyll location for camping and beach, this is the most incredible location. The camp site is small and with limited amenities (no showers /toilets / electric / car park detached and you need to wheel barrow your gear across to the camp site)... If you are looking for an idyll location for camping and beach, this is the most incredible location. The camp site is small and with limited amenities (no showers /toilets / electric / car park detached and you need to wheel barrow your gear across to the camp site) but if you want to get back to nature and just enjoy the beach, waves, water, this place is pretty perfect. We travelled with 6 children across 3 families and simply had the most amazing weekend with the freedom and adventure the location provides. We will definitely be returning next year and hopefully for a longer stay.
