Ruthern Valley Holidays

4.6 (111 reviews)

Ruthern Valley is nestled in a beautiful wooded valley near Bodmin Moor offering a selection of self-catering holiday lodges and glamping, along with a fully equipped, designated camping and caravan area. A quiet site near the Camel Trail, with no outdoor lighting, 20 minutes from both the North and South coasts, it's perfect for walking, biking, beaches, stargazing, BBQing and simply chillaxing.

Ruthern Valley offers a holiday experience where you can get in touch with nature and wildlife; a centrally based haven from which you can enjoy all that Cornwall has to offer. It’s ideal for families and friends. There's a play area for children, on-site bike & wetsuit hire, an on-site shop for basic groceries, locally sourced produce, ice-creams/confectionery, a selection of soft and alcoholic drinks, camping gas and equipment, plus a few luxuries.

Ruthern Valley gives you a choice for any budget. There are 8 timber cabins, 4 cedar wood bungalows, 1 static holiday caravan, all fully equipped for self-catering. For the more adventurous, there are 2 glamping ensuite MegaPods, 4 glamping wigwams and 3 camping huts (pods). The touring caravan and camping area has 26 pitches, 8 of which have electric hook-up; there is a designated campers’ shower and toilet block – with solar hot water – and laundry facilities. The new and extremely popular Mega Pods are a glam-tastic new way to enjoy the big outdoors – with a little warmth, plus a sofa!

Listen to the birds and not traffic. Read a book, sip some wine, plan your bike trip to Padstow on the Camel Trail. We’re a hop skip and a pedal from the Wadebridge estuary, Camel Valley Vineyard, Grogley Woods or Bodmin Gaol! Or you can relax on site and let the children run off to the play area or feed the chickens after exploring the woodland trails.

Family-run and friendly, Ruthern Valley looks forward to welcoming you.

Enjoyed our stay in the Wigwam

Baker, Craig - 29/09/2022

4

Enjoyed our stay, the wigwam was nice a cosy with the heater on. Having a fridge, microwave and kettle were helpful. Would recommend providing a simple range of plates, cutlery, cups etc and possibly even bedding and linen to save guests needing to bring their own and make the visit even more pleasant.

All very good

Bayliss, Jasmine - 29/09/2022

5

Our pod was much bigger than expected! The bed was huge and comfy. We had been worried about it being cold but there was a heater in the pod so we needn’t have worried. The showers and toilets were very clean as was the pod. All in all we really enjoyed our stay.

A lovely place to stay

Palin, Matthew - 28/09/2022

I'm a multiple return visitor to the cabins on site here and absolutely love the place. The accommodation has everything you could reasonably expect at a very affordable price point. The camp is located close to the Camel Trail so is an ideal base for those wishing to explore the local area on foot or by bicycle. There is a small but well stocked shop on site with a decent, varied selection of everyday essentials - many of which are locally produced. Unlike some other camps, the on-site shop offers everything at a fair price so you don't have to feel like you're getting taken advantage my "shopping local".The hosts are lovely people and they ensure the grounds and various facilities are always well maintained. In short, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I'm certain that I'll be planning and booking my next stay very soon.

Lovely site. Well kept grounds. A bit difficult to find at first

Crummer, James - 28/09/2022

4

Clean and tidy site. Well kept grounds. Quiet and peaceful. Good for exploring Cornwall in general. Slight smell of damp in cabin on arrival. Sofa could be more comfortable. Beds very comfortable and great shower. Everything you need for a stay here. Lanivet Inn not too. Friendly pub with good food. Fish and Chip place across from it which does takeaway or sit in. Large supermarkets in nearby Bodmin. We forgot to take towels but Nicola gave us a set for the week. Friendly staff and small shop for necessities.

Overpriced basic accommodation

Humphreys, Julie - 27/09/2022

3

The list of do's & don'ts was a bit off putting, not a very friendly greeting , I would have been nice if they had cleaned the cups and perhaps made a few T bags and long life milk available. More information about what local attractions were available, The accommodation was very basic and out side bench table covered in very old bird poo, would have expected a BBQ

Beautiful Park

Burke, Julie - 22/09/2022

4

We enjoyed our stay in the mega pod and will probably return for another visit. The owner was friendly and the pod was beautiful. The showers were modern, private and clean and the site is gorgeous. The only issues we had were little things, some of which weren’t in the control of the park owners. Our Mega pod was clean, except under the bed which was very dusty and we did find an earplug and a piece of someone’s dental floss under there. The mattress was quite hard, but we expected that in a glamping pod and at night we had to turn off the fridge as it was very noisy. All things that would not deter us from revisiting. I was a little disappointed that people had music on their phones evenings and at breakfast and a few were quite noisy on one evening. We did book a mega pod thinking it would be peaceful and the majority of the time but they are quite close to others. Again, wouldn’t deter me from coming again. We had a great time.

Quiet calm and clean

Burgess, Bethany - 19/09/2022

Visited mid September 2022. Arriving at the site we were welcomed at the shop where you can buy all the bits of food you may need. We found a grassy pitch in the wooded area which was clean and spacious with ample parking beside on gravel. The toilet, shower and kitchen/ laundry facilities were spotless and had a really handy map and list of food places to eat. All we heard in the night were some cows and in the morning we sat and had a coffee listening to an array of birdsong. Very peaceful, would recommend. Also for people needing wifi it was fast and reliable.

1 night in a wigwam

Herridge, Jack - 19/09/2022

5

Me and my partner stayed here for 1 night in September as part of a voucher I had. The initial experience was poor as I originally booked via email only too be told 4 day later that the night we wanted was no longer available. However, everything else was spot on, the check in was swift and hassle free, the wigwam it's self was clean, well kitted out and surprisingly warm. I would think that 4 people in a wigwam would be a squeeze but for 2 people it was perfect. Many thanks for a great night away in Cornwall.
