The site gates were open when we arrived but later repaired which was good.
Nice cafe next door lovely walks pub across the road bus stop handy for Belfast
The facilities and location are excellent but the night we stayed there was 4 tents that clearly belonged to travellers or homeless. They had wedged open the toilet doors and the one to the laundry to circumvent having to use the code and it just all felt a bit unsecure. They were hanging about in the dark at night and while we never had any issues it didn’t feel particularly safe. Due to these issues I wouldn’t return or recommend it to anyone else.
We had vouchers for Belfast restaurants and really didn't want to spend £150+ for a room only to make use of them. So I thought why not park up here and get the bus into Belfast! However I was a bit disappointed to see that I could not book the site for one night only and had to book a 2 night stay event though we knew we couldn't stay for the second night as we needed to get back up the road for work the next day. However the location is spot on with a bus stop right outside the site. Coffee shop on site in the public park did great coffees.A bit disappointed the gates to secure the site were open wide the whole time we were there, which we were a bit nervous about as anyone could have driven into the site. Key Code to toilets, showers and sleuce all worked ok, They were all clean and tidy apart from the many spiders and their webs on the ceilings. The hairdryer did not work either. However we will probs come back for more trips to Belfast despite the 2 night enforcement.
We spent 3 nights in October. The site was easy to find and easily accessible. Small site with good size numbered plots with lots of low hedging. Well screened. Grass cut and clean. Near busy road but quiet at night. Part of small park area with cafe and play area. Toilets clean, if dated, only 2 showers , all accessible by key code. Hairdryer was not functioning. Good laundry with washer and dryer. Unfortunately electric security gate to site, which would be key pad operated was also not working so permanently open. In view of urban setting this was a bit unsettling. 15 mins walk to train station and then 15 mins into Belfast. Few nice restaurants down the road - we would recommend ‘The spice merchant’, 620 shore road for a tasty curry. Would be at least 4* if maintenance issues sorted.
1. Shower room/cubicles could be cleaner2. Drinking water standpipe tap lacking proper bibcock for hosepipe connection
What a forward thinking council. Clean, tidy and good location. Bus outside to city centre. Easy booking system.
Check in via barrier code was easy, facilities fine. Site was quiet. Cycle path along lough shore into Belfast was good, about 10km, alternatively bus stop just outside the site
My first overnight stay in Northern Ireland was a luxurious one. A helpful fellow guest on the site recommended thw driest flattest space to camp in.I felt safe and secure and slept very well. The facilities are well looked after and although the site is un staffed overnight I get the impression that those that tend to the site in the daytime care about what they do and take pride in the space.
Only stayed one night, staff at the cafe were very friendly and helpful, amenities were spotless and worked, great walking another front with our dogs. Highly recommended.
