Thorpe Farm Centre is a camping and caravan site in Barnard Castle on the border of County Durham and North Yorkshire. When it comes to outdoor getaways, we have something for everyone.

Our site is centered around an 18th Century Peel House. The licensed campsite and caravan park offers a wide range of attractions for the whole family to make it a memorable short break or holiday away. We are situated just 9 miles west of the Scotch Corner, on the edge of the A66, in the beautiful area of Teesdale.

Having first opened in 2008 with 5 camping pitches, we have now developed the site into a leading camping and caravanning facility with 7 grass standing pitches (without electric) and 14 hard standing pitches which come with electric hook-up. We have fresh water points located around the site and a chemical disposal point adjacent to our brand new and top quality amenity block.

On site at Thorpe Farm we are dog friendly and have plenty of open space for you to explore. With walking routes through grassy dells, woodland areas and along the banks of the River Greta, you can enjoy the great outdoors and take in the beautiful scenery.

At the heart of Thorpe Farm we have our wonderful Farm Shop which stocks all of your essentials and much more. We even offer a pre-order shopping service where you can pre-order your groceries in advance and collect on arrival.

Who doesn’t love a little bit of retail therapy when you are on holiday? Our beautiful Gift Hall is the perfect place where you can find trinkets, keepsakes, gifts, home accessories and much more.

The Reclamation Centre is now open in Peel House, It is full to the brim with quirky interesting things for your home and garden, you are sure to find something you didn’t realise you wanted or needed! From furniture to ornaments and everything in-between. Our stock is changing all the time so every time you come back there will be something new!

If you’re not a lover of cooking you don’t need to worry as The Courtyard Café and Restaurant is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and delicious snacks during the day.

There really is plenty for you to do and see when staying at Thorpe Farm so make sure you allow plenty of time to check out all of our amenities!

All the right facilities but not necessarily in the right places

Adcock, Mike - 23/09/2023

The site is very clean and tidy. The new facilities building is very impressive and spotless. The shop and cafe are amazing. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful. The shop and cafe are located up a steep hill through a scruffy yard area. The facilities building is similarly up a steep path from the pitches; fine for fully fit people but no thought for disabled access. The site is perfect for access to Barnard Castle, where we spent far more time in the museum than intended as it was so interesting. Being adjacent to the A66 means access to the surrounding area is easy and there is much to explore in this beautiful part of the country.

Dreadful road noise!

The campsite is well situated, the cafe is really good lots of choice not too pricey, good local produce, and extremely helpful and courteous staff in the cafe and shop to. Lovely clean site and facilities, my only concern was the road noise as we were in a tent it was horrendous and I’m not exaggerating we had to purchase some ear plugs which reduced it a great deal! The only other comment was an alarm coming from the disposal waste all night long over a one night period so that coupled with the road noise 😞 great location for local attractions walks and trips a bit further.

Lovely facilities and staff.

The staff at the shop and cafe were lovely. It was a hassle free and pleasant stay. There were great dog walking facilities and the whole place was very dog friendly. The shower block clean and relatively new. The disabled/family bathroom was a good size. The road noise was noticeable - it’s definitely a 24 hour route- but there was pre warning! I personally would appreciate the choice of electric on the grass pitch too but there were facilities to help. Overall a good campsite with great staff.

First time camping

Price, Leah - 30/08/2023

Staff were lovely when we checked in. Play park is great and the kids had a ball! We have camped here pre Covid and the last time we were here the camping site was literally just a field you could pitch up your tent however feel it is now catered to motor homes/ caravans rather than camping which was disappointing. The facilities are nice and clean though. I’m not sure whether we will return or not.

Nice flat site

Jones, Janet - 29/08/2023

Only stayed one night. Good flat area with hard standing and EH. Shop had a good selection of food, didn't go into gift shop or restaurant. There is a play area near the shop, we thought it a bit far from the camping area. Some cars driving up to to the shop area seemed to be going a bit fast, might want to make it a 10 mph limit? We didn't use the showers, we went to have a look and everything looked new and clean. The staff were pleasant and helpful. It was £32.50 a night, we thought it a bit pricey as the electric was extra. There is noise from the road but it didn't bother us. We will probably come here again.

Helpful staff

Access for a manual wheelchair was difficult, but in order that my wife could use the shower, the staff allowed us to drive the motorhome closer which helped us massively. The wet room was good but lacking hand grabs around the shower with no where to put anything down .

Brown, Michael - 23/08/2023

I stayed for a week at this compliant. on my arrival I realized my electricity cable was not long enough .some of the meters are a bit far away from the pitch . a member of staff was most helpful and went and got me an extension lead without hesitation .the staff in the shop were very friendly and the shop is well stocked with everything you could need. There is a good restaurant cafe on site .the site is well maintained and in a very scenic area .in easy reach of Scotch corner just off the A66 I will definitely be booking it again
