Thorpe Farm Centre is a camping and caravan site in Barnard Castle on the border of County Durham and North Yorkshire. When it comes to outdoor getaways, we have something for everyone.

Our site is centered around an 18th Century Peel House. The licensed campsite and caravan park offers a wide range of attractions for the whole family to make it a memorable short break or holiday away. We are situated just 9 miles west of the Scotch Corner, on the edge of the A66, in the beautiful area of Teesdale.

Having first opened in 2008 with 5 camping pitches, we have now developed the site into a leading camping and caravanning facility with 7 grass standing pitches (without electric) and 14 hard standing pitches which come with electric hook-up. We have fresh water points located around the site and a chemical disposal point adjacent to our brand new and top quality amenity block.

On site at Thorpe Farm we are dog friendly and have plenty of open space for you to explore. With walking routes through grassy dells, woodland areas and along the banks of the River Greta, you can enjoy the great outdoors and take in the beautiful scenery.

At the heart of Thorpe Farm we have our wonderful Farm Shop which stocks all of your essentials and much more. We even offer a pre-order shopping service where you can pre-order your groceries in advance and collect on arrival.

Who doesn’t love a little bit of retail therapy when you are on holiday? Our beautiful Gift Hall is the perfect place where you can find trinkets, keepsakes, gifts, home accessories and much more.

The Reclamation Centre is now open in Peel House, It is full to the brim with quirky interesting things for your home and garden, you are sure to find something you didn’t realise you wanted or needed! From furniture to ornaments and everything in-between. Our stock is changing all the time so every time you come back there will be something new!

reception very welcoming the one staff I met very polite, on booking i requested a pitch close to shower block, ended up pitch no. 2 under mature trees not a glimpse of sunshine all day, continues A66 road noise, all be it not your fault, shower block was dated & not at all clean.£40 per night I expected more, I would say it's more a £15 per night site.... got the feeling you cater more for your Statitc home customers..

reality did not reflect the website

Marshall, John - 15/09/2022

very disappointed, left after one night. Pitch 4 was totally unsuitable, connecting the EHU cable would have intruded upon neighbours pitch and water tap use would also have been an intrusion, complained at the time and moved to pitch 5. toilet facility was not very clean when we used it, the site map was lacking in detail in particular as to where to drop grey waste and location of chemical waste disposal point.the website highlighting the cafe/restaurant was one of the reasons for booking, however surprised to find out upon arrival facility closed at 5.30pm (4.30pm ??) even at a weekend. Finally whilst aware before we arrived regarding the road noise the cost of a 3 night stay of £105 was very expensive and unjustified considering road noise, cleanliness of toilet facility and opening hours of the cafe/restaurant.it appears to us that this is one of the sites whereby the images on the website does not reflect reality.

Check in very easy, although we were booked quite far from electric rang office someone attended but with a 3rd extension off another caravaner we managed to reach it.Staff in restaurant/animal farm and shop super friendly. Restaurant food lovely (wished we'd visited farm first discount available) just kidding. But food was delicious. And very welcoming. Shop staff friendly too and very helpful.Young gentleman stopped us near animal farm possibly one of the owners or employee welcome us back explained we'd loved our visit and didn't want to leave.Plenty for kids to do etc. Everything clean and tidy too. Hoping to be offered a winter pitch and then summer pitch for 2023. We absolutely will be back regardless especially for the truck show next year! thank you again.

Bank holiday stay

Adams, Charlotte - 03/09/2022

The location is right on the A66 which makes traffic a little noisy but it did not interrupt our sleep or have an impact on our stay. Location is excellent for visiting the local sights, close to lovely pubs, villages, Bowes museum etc Our pitch was spacious and we were close to other friends and family. The children were safe and had plenty of things to do, go and see the animals, play on the park (which is lovely) and run in the nearby fields. The ship and cafe is beautiful with well stocked shelves for everything we needed and special treats. The shower and toilet block was efficient, water was hot and we didn’t have any issues with cleanliness. Wasn’t keen on it being close to the waste disposal and bins but suppose that can’t be helped.Overall, we had a brilliant stay, the children loved it which was the main thing. We will come back. Thanks for a lovely weekend!

Very nice place, but tent pitches were right next to main road.

Gillespie, Mark - 03/09/2022

very satisfied with the toilets, kitchen, and showers. All clean and fresh, very decent. lots of space, and a beautiful sunset, perfect to stargaze. However, the tent pitches were about 15 steps away from the main A-Road, the only thing separating the two, were a couple of trees and a wall; you could hear every car, van, and lorry, and almost feel the ground vibrating under you at points. A lovely stay though.

1st impressions. Clean site .

Sonley, Abby - 28/08/2022

Paid for 2 night and only stayed 1 . Really unhappy about being right next to the A66 . Previous family members said they were further away from the noise last time , hence the reason why we booked camping here and was planning to visit Barnard Castle. I really don't know why you would put tents next to it , it was noisy and didn't sleep very well . No body showed us where our pitch was which would have been helpful .My only positives is that the cafe was lovely food was fresh and tasty the staff were friendly and the toilets and showers were clean . We wouldn't visit again .

Great Facilaties …. Too close to the A66

Johnson, Andrew - 25/08/2022

Booking in and staff were excellent and great farm Shop. Facilities at the camp site were ok but nothing special but looked like new buildings were soon to be opened. The one thing i had not realised was how close we would be to the A66 which was very noisy and this would be the one reason that we would not return.

Facilities were great but not a good place to camp in a tent as tents were only situated at the other side of the wall from the main road it was very noisy

Lovely location

Evans, Samantha - 17/08/2022

Lovely childrens playground, lovely shop etc with friendly and helpful staff. Toilets and showers were clean (showers could of been warmer and I would of liked to see a temperature control rather than a push button if I’m being picky) large and clean washing up area and plenty of fresh water points. My children loved to see the goats and sheep in the fields and the free roaming ducks and roosters. Nice walks around the area. The animal rescue centre on site had bad reviews and some concerns over their welfare so as an animal lover and an animal management degree graduate I opted not to visit this. Overall the site is a great base for the surrounding area and we enjoyed trips to nearby Barnard castle and teesdale. Low force/gibsons cave/summer hill force was a particular highlight. My only real complaint was the busy road directly behind the campsite (A66) there is a constant stream of lorries all through the night and myself and my son found it hard to get any sleep at all.
