The Oaks lakes at Sessay in North Yorkshire is home to lakes for both match and pleasure fishing. The lakes originally opened in 1994 starting with the Willows lake and over the years it has steadily grown. We currently have 10 lakes with over 400 Pegs, a large café, tackle shop and this year we will be opening a caravan Park in a quiet corner of the lakes so that everyone can come and enjoy the North's most well-known fishing complex.

The 4-acre field is rectangular with a mature wood running along the North West side providing shelter and privacy from the fishing lakes, the North east side faces the Hambleton Hills and the white horse.

A small peaceful, adults only, touring caravan park with supersized hard standing pitches all with their own electrical hook-up, situated in a quiet corner of the fishery but with easy access to the lakes and facilities. Next door to the tackle shop is the Oaks Lakes Cafe which is open everyday, serving cooked breakfasts, bacon sandwiches, panini's, soups, homemade cakes, ice creams and hot and cold drinks.

The Oaks Lakes sit to the North end of the village and are screened with woodland and hedges there are 10 fishing lakes used for many course fishing competitions and featured regularly in the leading angling magazines. The whole area teams with places to go, whether you want to Walk, Cycle or Drive there is plenty to do here is a few: 18 miles away is the ancient walled City of York straight down the A19 approx 35 Minutes. 3 miles will take you to the market town of Thirsk, with its interesting James Herriott Museum. Castle Howard sits thirteen miles from us in the pretty market town of Helmsley.

Great Stay

We arrived and were quickly advised of our plot through the intercom. Unfortunately ground was too hard to put up our awning and we didn’t have the correct hammer with us but that’s on us. Had 2 days fishing on Willow specimen lake and one on Poplars which we thoroughly enjoyed. Tom popped round every day to collect the fees and stopped for a chat - lovely guy and obviously committed to providing a great service. Tackle shop was well stocked and hubbie picked a bargain winter suit. Didn’t get chance to try the cafe. Only negative is that the ladies toilet at the camping site were not cleaned daily and had to advise that paper was empty in one stall and low in another. Not a place to stay if you need local facilities or public transport as located in a quiet village. Good for us but maybe not for others. Good MH facilities and would definitely return.

We have just spent 4 nights at the oaks lakes site in the bungalow at the front. The bungalow had everything we needed to enjoy our stay from all the utensils to the log fire burner, very spacious in a beautiful part of the country. Fishing on site was also a bonus being able to walk through the back gate and being onto a lake one of the 10 lakes on site. Would highly recommend this to absolutely everyone wanting a lovely time away. Looking at when we can next visit.

Peaceful

Oaks is a beautiful, peaceful place. The caravan site was perfect in every way. It had everything you need. Very clean toilets/showers. The fishing lakes are close to the site. My partner was shocked to find that he had to still pay to fish when already paid to stay on the site, and felt this should be included in the booking. A small shop would be helpful, but not a necessity. We needed water and milk and I paid £7 for 6 small bottles of water and a pint of milk. Milk is not sold but the cafe kindly sold me a pint. There is drinking water on the site but found it to be so bad I could not even disguise it in my coffee. I was practically dehydrated until I was able to buy those tiny bottles from the cafe. We did bring lots of water but ran out. I guess it's a case of ensuring that you have everything you need on arrival. Overall.. this site and the entire area is beautiful, tranquil and a perfect little getaway if it's peace you are after. We will come back ..

Caravan site ok ish. Rubbish provision not very good. Only contact on site is via an intercom when you arrive. Toilets and showers clean and adequate but toilet rolls not replaced very often. Cafe not bad, new owners so adjusting opening times to suit clients (mostly for fishermen). Tackle shop ok but dear and geared for serious match fishermen.10 mph max speed signs all over. Shame no one keeps to it.....>. including ALL the staff. Clouds of dust everywhere. not good! Fishing not bad, except lots of matches especially weekends so little pleasure angling until after 4pm.The whole complex looking tired now. Caravan site needs attention to pitches, lakes need rubbish bins .....match fishermen tend to leave rubbish behind. Fishing stages need attention, most leaning towards the water and cracked. Very difficult to put rod rests in.......ground very hard or concrete and lake sites covered in a type of matting by the staging. Ok if you have a proper match type scaffolding sea
