The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite.

Camping and Glamping in Yorkshire – you will LOVE it here…

…if you appreciate nature and peacefulness off the beaten track…

…if you want to toast marshmallows on an open campfire whilst gazing at a sky laden with stars...

…if you want time to yourself to read your favourite book or watch the Kingfishers and the Otters.

Rufus's Roost Treehouse (strictly no pets)

  • Sleeps 6
  • 3 bedrooms

Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine.

Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!

There is parking for up to four cars per booking, due to parking space restrictions please contact us if you intend to come in more than four cars.

NB Due to our abundant wildlife habitats please keep noise to a minimum after 10pm, especially if out on the veranda and in the Hot-Tub.

A tucked away, little gem of a campsite

Shepherd, Caroline - 13/08/2026

We fell in love with this little campsite, it's family friendly, kids will love it, they have great facilities, the pizza shack for your tea time and breakfast needs, they have wellness and eco conservation at the heart of their camp. We stayed 3 nights, loved the quiet, camp rules, went for some great walks, explored some lovely villages and towns. Their is lots of options for eating out, all well advertised at the camp. Enjoyed the dark skies and the campfire once the ban was lifted. Great for adults and children alike. A big thumbs up from my Hubby and me and have already recommended it to family and friends x

Sauna and ice bonus

I’ve frequently stayed at Baxby Manor and love the quietness and cleanliness of the place. The bonus this time was trying the sauna and ice experience. My daughter also loved doing the wildflower arranging and the little gift shop (which was also handy for extras like lip balm and water carriers).

Our stay at the hideaway, baxby was just what we needed. A lovely quiet retreat. The site is very well run and clean. We stayed in an eco pod which is very basic with no electricity but was just what we needed to unwind. Waking up to the natural sounds of the countryside and not constant traffic was so relaxing. We have been to the site before and will definitely return but will try other accommodation on the site.

Feels Remote

A Goodsall, Nicola - 07/08/2026

We choice a pitch in The Sanctuary ( adults only ). Short walk from where we parked the car. Large pitch , not close to the neighbours and there was a little shrubbery between you. The facilities were great and clean . Toilets and showers busy at peak times . Only recommendation would be to have a toilet facility in the sanctuary, even one uni sex toilet as there is no lighting on the campsite and the walk to the main toilet of you get caught short during the night can be quite precarious.Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back .

Great site and great place to stay!

Callas, Paul - 31/07/2026

We really enjoyed staying here. We had originally thought about camping but the Kabina won us over because of the air conditioning. It’s a great place for a family and has everything you need for a great stay. I’d totally also say the facilities if you are camping are really good too! You have to try the pizza onsite! Also it’s really well located for day trips to different sites around Yorkshire.

DIY Toilet cleaning

Shardlow, Jonathan - 31/07/2026

Push button showers only work when finger pressing on very stiff button.Difficult for showering small children...need to be on timer like in swimming pools. Clients expected to wipe down and clean up after themselves...children and some adults don't do this...meaning I was cleaning up other people's mess.Shoes not to be worn in showers and loos...again some complied and lots didn't which meant paddling in unknown liquids or again cleaning up after others. Not the spotless facilities I had expected unless visited immediately after daily cleaning.Cars not allowed on pitch but parking provided very tight so hard to unload and load your stuff tho wheel barrows provided.50 pounds per night most expensive we have ever paid in 35 years camping not worth it but near York centre .No where for children to play other than next to tents .

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, Jonathan. We’re sorry to hear that Baxby Manor wasn’t the right fit for you.We appreciate your comments regarding the shower push buttons and will certainly check them. We also understand that communal facilities can sometimes require attention between our scheduled cleaning rounds during busy periods, although our team works hard to keep them clean throughout the day.Our car-free camping areas are a deliberate part of the experience we offer, creating a quieter and safer environment for everyone. Wheelbarrows are provided to help transport luggage, and this is explained before booking. While we don’t have a traditional playground, the campsite is set within 110 acres of woodland and countryside with nature trails and open spaces for families to enjoy. We’re sorry Baxby Manor didn’t meet your expectations, but we appreciate your feedback and wish you all the best with your future camping trips.
