The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite.
Camping and Glamping in Yorkshire – you will LOVE it here…
…if you appreciate nature and peacefulness off the beaten track…
…if you want to toast marshmallows on an open campfire whilst gazing at a sky laden with stars...
…if you want time to yourself to read your favourite book or watch the Kingfishers and the Otters.
The Hideaway, Baxby Manor is a special, peaceful and restful place where you can spend precious days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A haven for walkers and cyclists, and a perfect base for exploring the many historic, cultural and outdoor attractions of this lovely part of Yorkshire. We are about camping, campfires, the countryside and getting away from it all.
Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine.
Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!
There is parking for up to four cars per booking, due to parking space restrictions please contact us if you intend to come in more than four cars.
NB Due to our abundant wildlife habitats please keep noise to a minimum after 10pm, especially if out on the veranda and in the Hot-Tub.

Nearly there sign. Captures the imagination. Met at reception by very professional helpful staff. Entered the Hoglet area. A very quirky home for the weekend. Absolutely magical. Outside camping fire pit. You can hire a trivet for ease of cooing.Inside log burner. Double bed. Bunk beds. Camping cooker, kettle. Pizzas made on site which are better than any takeaway. Lovey walks round the spotless and clean site. Shower facilities are first class. The disability area is very well equipped. On wet days you can use the drying room which is a thoughtful addition. There is a good sized pot wash area. A wonderful place to unwind and relax. Perfect.
Very relaxing, great pizza, loved the fire pit, pub nearby.
Alway come and use pitched ve1 & ve2 we love the site
We had an excellent stay in our campervan with two dogs at Baxby, albeit only for one night. The site is accessible and set in beautiful surroundings within easy walking distance of a fantastic village pub and restaurant. The staff we very friendly and helpful and the facilities were of a high standard and very clean. The quality of the food from the onsite pizza and breakfast place looked outstanding although we didn't sample this. The only drawbacks were that the showers were not free flowing, you had to hold the button down and the grass had been mown but not picked up so wet grass constantly ended up inside the campervan.
A much needed escape to log off and enjoy the quiet of nature. We stayed in a tiny eco pod (bring your camping chairs and table) and sat out late to enjoy the stars. Site was super clean, everyone was friendly and happy to help and there’s a huge amount to do in the local area.
Our kabina had everything we needed and was very clean with quality bed linen. We particularly enjoyed the hot tub and evening fire pit. There is a shop for basic supplies and a delicious pizza and breakfast shack if you don't want to cook. The site is easily accessible to York, Helmsley and other attractions in the Vale of York. The site felt safe and there is an emphasis on being considerate to other users. Will definitely go again.
It’s our third stay - we are always impressed with the facilities on the campsite, which seem to i get better every time we visit. We played some cricket, had a fun and peaceful evening under the stars by the camp fire, enjoyed a delicious garlic pizza from the Pizza Shack and fed the chickens. The bathroom block deserves all its awards for cleanliness and quality! We look forward to our next visit, thank you for a lovely stay.
Booked last minute so we were fortunate to get on the site and grabbed the last remaining pitch - so glad we did, we really loved the site! We got a lovely warm welcome upon arrival and found the layout of site, the facilities and staff to be all wonderful. We enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing stay with the added bonus of freshly made pizzas on site and access to our own personal firepit. We enjoyed so much, we have already re-booked to return with friends. Can't wait to go back
Highly recommend staying at Baxby Manor. It really is a wonderful experience from the first friendly welcome, impeccable showers and pot wash and laundry area. Beautiful walks from the site and there are also bike riding sections accessible from here also. The accommodation is stunning with fire pits outside (logs and kindling available from the well stocked shop) and some have jacuzzi also. The sauna and ice experience can also be booked.A lovely escape from the bustle of life. The village is a 15min walk away with a Cider brewery enroute which I can highly recommend 😊
We returned to Baxby Manor, this time taking friends along. We enjoy the quiet surroundings, the cleanliness of the whole site, the location, the segmentation of the pitch areas; there isn’t anything that we don’t like about the site. We go for quiet, relaxing weekends and that’s exactly what we get.
