The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite.
Camping and Glamping in Yorkshire – you will LOVE it here…
…if you appreciate nature and peacefulness off the beaten track…
…if you want to toast marshmallows on an open campfire whilst gazing at a sky laden with stars...
…if you want time to yourself to read your favourite book or watch the Kingfishers and the Otters.
The Hideaway, Baxby Manor is a special, peaceful and restful place where you can spend precious days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A haven for walkers and cyclists, and a perfect base for exploring the many historic, cultural and outdoor attractions of this lovely part of Yorkshire. We are about camping, campfires, the countryside and getting away from it all.
Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine.
Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!
There is parking for up to four cars per booking, due to parking space restrictions please contact us if you intend to come in more than four cars.
NB Due to our abundant wildlife habitats please keep noise to a minimum after 10pm, especially if out on the veranda and in the Hot-Tub.

Our 5th visit and still as magical an experience as the first time. This really is a little bit of paradise nestled in the Yorkshire hills.
We stayed at the hideaway in a kabina towards the end of October. The site is easily accessible with shops and pubs a short 10 minute drive away in the next town. We visited Howard house which was a beautiful stately home around half an hour drive away. We went to York for the day before we checked in and this was around a 40 minute drive away. The staff were very helpful and we even got a free upgrade upon arrival! The Kabinas are like home away from home, really nice decor, even down to the cups and plates and bedding. There are amenities to cook also. We were really shocked at how nice the kabinas were for the price we paid, they could definitely charge alot more!! We went in the hot tub early mornings and listened to the birds, very relaxing! Already looking to book again for next year. It was a gorgeous retreat like reset! I could have stayed here for weeks!
Very friendly staff - Matt was super helpful! Great location aboit 15 mins walk to theical pub. About a half hour drive to York. Plenty walking locally.
We stayed in the treehouse when it first opened a few year back and everything wowed us. Every little thing. So we thought the kabinas being new would have felt as special but it didn’t. Soon as we walked in it just felt a little lacking. It didn’t feel fully cleaned from previous. There was mud on the curtains mould spore on skirt boards and around window ledges and little hairs all around the wood that the mattress lays on. With a 2 year old this was a little worrying. We understand it was off season but we just felt a little forgotten about and to get on with it. There was a queue for the pizza shack at 5pm on the Tuesday we all got talking and no one turned up we had to ring and ask. It didn’t seem very clear. No nice touches in the kabina not even tea bags. Again just things like that would make you feel cared for. We ended up going to York for the full day on Tuesday just to try to stay out of the kabina. Which was not the point of booking a relaxing lodge just to stay around
Dear Laura,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at The Hideawat at Baxby Manor. We are thrilled to hear that your previous experience in the treehouse left such a lasting impression, and we sincerely apologise for falling short during your stay in the Kabina.Your comments about cleanliness and the details that contribute to a welcoming atmosphere are invaluable to us. We understand how important a spotless environment is, especially with a little one in tow. We will address these concerns with our housekeeping team to ensure that every Kabina meets the high standards we strive for.We also appreciate your insights about the pizza shack and the absence of thoughtful touches in the Kabina. We are committed to enhancing our guest experience, and your feedback will help us make necessary improvements. We hope you will consider giving us another opportunity to provide you with the exceptional experience you deserve. Thank you once again for your feedback, and we wish you all the best.Warm regards,BarneyFounder Owner The Hideaway at Baxby Manor
We loved our stay at Baxby Manor. We hired a Kabina with a hot tub for a long weekend. Finding the place was easy. The staff were really friendly. The grounds were well maintained for hygiene and wildlife. We saw owl, kestrel and a wren stood right by our window by our bedside. The hot tub was ace… especially at night when we could star gaze and hear the night sounds. The Kabina was perfect for us…. warm, cosy and comfortable. Everything we needed. We visited Pickering, Rosedale, Howardian Hills, Selby, Ampleforth, Hexham and Easingwold. All fabulous places.
Dear David,Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are delighted to hear that you loved your stay at Baxby Manor and enjoyed your time in the Kabina with the hot tub. It’s fantastic to know that you found our staff friendly and the grounds well-maintained. Seeing wildlife so close is truly a special experience, and we’re thrilled that you were able to spot an owl, kestrel, and wren during your stay. We agree that there’s nothing quite like relaxing in the hot tub under the stars while soaking in the sounds of nature. We appreciate your kind words about the Kabina being warm, cozy, and comfortable. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we hope to welcome you back for another memorable stay soon!Warm regards,BarneyFounder Owner Baxby Manor
