Camping and facilities at site

Ali-Chapman, Shameem - 23/07/2024

We stayed for 5 nights and were given a pitch at the top end of the site. These pitches are on a slope but further away from the road (dual carriageway) so we were glad we were pitched there. When we arrived there were 2 other large tents already pitched up opposite us and we had a 6 man tent, but could only pitch it in a specific way (not of our choosing) as there would have been no room for a vehicle to get through. Consideration needs to be given to this bearing in mind this info is provided to the campsite beforehand. The facilities weren’t great and are in need of attention - 2 showers and 2 toilets for the ladies and same for the men’s. But it does look like the owners have this in hand as it looks like they are building a new block. The campsite is located in a very accessible part of County Durham and there is lots of places nearby to explore and see - I would recommend Crook Hall Gardens and the newly opened Raby Castle, park and gardens - both stunning.

The site has great potential, but the facilities block is old and tired and the new block not yet complete.

Knight, Matthew - 23/07/2024

Location is good for Durham and the coast. Be aware of road noise. Surroundings picturesque. No wif-fi. Popular cafe open at weekends.Parts of the site are showing their age. The hardstanding on our pitch was only wide enough for the vehicle, so you step out onto mud.The facilities block lets the site down. A new one is under construction and the old one has several issues. Both women's and one of the men's showers have drainage problems and don't soak away fast enough. This made the whole floor wet. The door lock in one men's cubicle was broken. Lights go out after a few minutes if you are in the shower and no one else comes in. Tiny shelf next to wash basin makes it tricky to put down clothes etc. while shaving. Similar lack of hooks in shower cubicle. Steep dog walk can be slippery when wet. The new facilities block will hopefully transform this site.

Family site

Nice small family site with everything required. Only slight negative is the tire toilet block, although I know a brand new block is part built which will make site top notch.

Lovely site

Stayed here with my husband and 2 kidsWe recieved a lovely welcome on arrival and shown to our pitch. We had asked to be pitched beside my parents who were also staying which they accommodated no problem.Toilets and shower facilities were very clean - shower was freezing ar 7.30 on the morning but I must have been unlucky because the following day the water was hotCafe, shop and giddy up bar are great and reasonably priced. The home baking is amazing!Only negatives was that the site is very close to a busy road so you can hear traffic throughout the night and that some people have their music playing quite loudWould definitely stay again as it's perfect for visiting attractions like beamish and diggerland.HEADS UP THEY GIVE YOU 15% DISCOUNT ON BEAMISH TICKETS HOWEVER THIS ISNT AVAILABLE ON THE FAMILY TICKETS AS ITS ALREADY AT A DISCOUNTED PRICE

Tired site with poor facilities

Thomas, Ivor - 10/07/2024

Did not live up to what was advertised.Reasons:Dirty shower and toilet facilities with old fitments in poor condition.Shop, reception and tearoom only open 3 days a week.Large group of Irish families on site with no respect for other’s privacy and peace, who incidentally hogged the laundry so nobody else could do any washing.Noticeable road noise.Overgrown dog walk that was unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues. It looks like construction of a new facility block has been part completed but no signs of any further progress being made.We had booked in for 6 nights but left after 2 nights as soon as we found an alternative site, despite losing our pitch fees for the remainder
