Hi,Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our stay. As soon as we arrived, another caravan pulled up next to us when there were plenty of spaces to allow us both some privacy as it was quiet at this time of year. The party next to us had several vehicles which blocked the road and kept the radio on loud in one of the cars for hours. There was quite a few people there who stayed up late. We didn’t see any staff there at all which was a shame as it’s always nice to be greeted and given some advice about the site or what to do. The water in the toilets was freezing. You could hear the road and sirens all night from where we were. It was only a short drive from Durham city centre which was good however overall, we didn’t enjoy our stay and left first thing on the morning.
Have stayed here before, years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. This time our experience was a little different! We arrived at 8:30pm in the rain and dark. It was difficult to find our pitch as there was limited lighting, when we did it was impossible to see where the gravel stopped and the grass began leading to me getting the car stuck in the mud!I rang the owners and asked if we could swap pitches, they were lovely and agreed. It was torrential rain most of the weekend and as the pitches were narrow it was impossible not to stand in the mud. Our Campervan ended up disgusting. The showerblock has no heating and a tiled floor, it was cleaned every day. 1 shower was broken but the other worked great although the floor was freezing on my bare feet. The second day there was no hot water. We rang the owners and the said it must have tripped and it would take 40 minutes to heat up again. As we had to be somewhere we drove to a family member’s house and used their shower.
No one on site at reception although we had been told, the pitches are very poor, the hard standing was a thin strip of old gravel which was covered with mud and grass and not wide enough for my caravan, could not put an awning up as it was a mud bath around my caravan, the slope was very bad and could not level up as ramps kept sinking into the mud, as a site based on a dual carriage way you had to drive miles to be able to turn right from the site, overall not a place I would visit again.
Everything you need for a visit to Milton Keynes area, very friendly owner, quiet with good views.
Really nice site and welcoming hosts. Just stopped a night on our way through. We mentioned we wanted to walk to the Farmers Arms for our dinner and a drink and we were given a lovely route July the host rather than walking along the roadside. Had a delicious breakfast the next morning in the on-site cafe. Everything cooked to order and so fresh. Would have loved to try some of there delicious cakes but just didn’t have any room left. Lovely young lady also working in the cafe and very welcoming on arrival.
Disappointing facilities, cold bathrooms, unstocked toilets and dirty showers.
The campsite was clean enough and well situated but it was effectively closed for the season . Although I had read that the tea room might be only open on weekends ( we stayed mon to Wednesday) I don’t think it was really clear that absolutely nothing would be open on site except the toilets . It felt like we could have rocked up and camped without paying . Only we didn’t we pail FULLL price and had to search for contact details when we got there because no one was around . When they turned up they were friendly enough but , it’s not really the point full price and halfterm I expected something to be open I couldn’t even get leaflets for local attractions let alone breakfast . I wouldn’t have booked if I realised nothing was opening and it felt no one was available if there was an issue. I was camping alone with two young girls it felt incredibly vulnerable not just a rip off and we have camped extensively across Europe alone .The site had potential but we felt fleeced personally
Lovely little run site nothing to much trouble for the staff friendly and helpful spot on.
Friendly staff but unfortunately not a site for me. It's not a site Friendly site for disabled people. Lack of showers and toilets if busy ( and site was full the weekend we were there ) walking round site poor under foot, and I was unable to walk my dog round dog walk as it was not flat ( any of it ) steep to get to it and felt like I needed one leg a lot longer or shorter than the other to walk round it. We didn't know just how close the site is to a main road, very noisy for us I'm afraid. As I said... not a site we would use again sorry.
We recently stayed on the top field whilst camping. It's a beautiful site and extremely well maintained. Everyone was so friendly, we were made to feel so welcome. The food was gorgeous and the hosts and staff were so welcoming.
