We needed a site close to where we were visiting, had a quick look online and it sounded good.I rang and spoke to a very nice man, who I since found out was the owner and got booked for 2 nights.Checked in with the wife of the site owner who was very nice, she gave us a map and directions to our pitch which seemed fine.Decided to use the shower. This is when my opinion went downhill. The shower block had 2 showers, 2 toilets and 2 hand basins which although clean , looked tatty .The shower was a unit with a folding door inside a small space to get changed. Two weeks prior to this, I had a knee injury so wasn’t steady on my feet. I got in the left hand shower and twice slipped, partly because I had the to push the button that many times for the water to come out. It took loads of attempts to wet my hair, never mind shampoo and condition it. It was on for literally seconds and would then go off and the button was stiff.
The site is well located for Seaham, Durham and Beamish. The site is well kept, good security barrier and pitches well labelled. The tea room for breakfast is superb and there is also an evening vending horsebox for drinks. It had a good vibe in the weekend evenings. but wasn't noisy. The site is close to the main road but you soon get used to that background noise. There was really good text communication before arrival with gate code etc.The only down side was the poor toilet/shower block - but they are rectifying that as a new block is almost finished but wasn't open yet for me.All in all it was a good site, good value and I would recommend it.
First time in our van . Found everything close at hand which made it easy for us .
This was our third stay at Strawberry Hill, it’s was just a short one night for the last day of summer holiday. As always, facilities were clean and the on-site food was great! Will be booking again soon!
The site felt green, leafy and well-spaced. The extra directions meant that there was no issue i. finding the place. The facilities were good and clean. Check in was easy. Staff were friendly and helpful. The bar was a bonus and reasonably priced. It was good to be able to travel in and out of Durham on the bus from the stop outside the campsite. We would return.
Stopped 1 night. Campsite is nice but Giddy up bar was not open for food on the night we stayed and had not been warned prior to stay. Toilet block needs updating. Staff friendly and helpful
We live this site and stay a few times a year its great
Lovely family run site, love the little tearoom and bar. The only things were toilet's and showers could do with updating as they look tired and also some of the pitches are incredibly uneven making levelling your caravan difficult
Easy to get too , facilities are ok , tent pitches aren't flat, on a bit of a slope . Some of the staff are friendly, owners not so friendly. Infact they are intimidating. Left early and returned 2 days later to get the tent , a family member stayed on though .
