Smedmore is a rural site which provides the basic needs for the people, who enjoy wonderful scenery and peaceful ambience. The Warden Glynn is very helpful and supportive. The Restaurant in Kimmeridge “Clavells” provides a wonderful menu range to get away from “home dining, and isa must to visit. The local farming and agricultural activity reminds you of the importance of the productive use of the land! There are great opportunities to use well identified footpaths and coastal paths, and take in the breath taking scenery. This is why we come back frequently 👍
If you like simple rural sites you will probably like this one. Good choice of different pitches, many with lovely views towards the sea and generous size of pitch. Lovely walk to Kimmeridge Bay and coastal footpath. The site is a bit isolated, being several miles from a small village. On our last night there there was a very loud wedding reception that kept us awake till midnight. Also, a very heavy branch fell from one of the pine trees and narrowly missed our neighbour's car and caravan. If it had landed on anyone I hate to think what would have happened to them. The trees generally looked in sound condition, but I would not park under them again if I ever return.
Glyn the site manager was extremely friendly and helpful. it is a place of outstanding natural beauty. A great place to unwind.
We had a lovely few days at Smedmore. Glyn, the Warden, was friendly, engaging and helpful. The views down to the bay are great. The location near the coastal path is good, and proximity to Swanage. The location can be a little limiting though, when the army closes off the Westward path.
Friendly, clean, great access to private bay, local transport not good, pubs close by and just a great location.
I just love the place as it's quiet and so dark at night through lack of light pollution so if your looking for a decent TV signal then this is not the place to come! All the pitches are larger than anywhere else we visit and all with electric hook up.It's located just a short walk to Kimmeridge bay and easy access to the coastal path and range walks it's a walkers dream. The site is not the easiest of places to find the first time but definitely worth a visit as its so well kept and run by Glynn the friendly site warden with all the local knowledge. So much to see a do with Lulworth Castle, Lulworth cove and Durdle door a short drive away. Tyneham village 10 mins by car, Corfe Castle 15 mins and Swanage about 20 mins away. Treat yourself to some sea air with peace and quiet...
It was all good except on Friday afternoon a caravan we arrived with two very noisy little dachshunds which did nothing but bark for over an hour until I told the said gentleman to get a grip of them - for my reprimand I was told I was a fucking muppet and to mind my own business - I did point out that they the dogs should be on a lead?! Nasty couple with nasty dogs but their kids were very normal!!
We love the site and it's countryside location. Added to this, Glyn the warden gives such good all-round care, always friendly, helpful and cheerful.
Come here every August, and I never tell friends where I am, because its always been perfect and I like it as it is, and if I begin to tell people about this place, i fear it will be spoilt. For the first time I saw ‘tents’ on this site, and I ask myself and the management ‘could this be the beginning of the end’? Booking terms indicate that the site is for “Touring Caravans, Motorhomes and Campervans” - for the reason that there are NO toilets or showers! If this site encourages tents to piggy back off Caravans & Mororhomes etc then this will simply evolve into Groups and Group Bookings, and then problems develope. I appreciate rules are rules, and as such rules are bent for good reasons from time to time. BUT please be careful. During the summer season, your visit here may coincide with a wedding and marquee on the lawn outside Smedmore House. These weddings are controlled and offere very little intrusion of noise or traffic.
I returned for a three week visit in August. one of many visits over the past years. The site is as usual clean tidy and friendly, and most of all informal. The site warden ( Glyn ) was very helpful and friendly. we visited the usual haunts. Warbarrow Bay was very busy this year. I must mention The Kings Head at Wareham. we did enjoy the meal we had, it was very good and value for money. The staff were friendly and welcoming on what was a busy lunch time.
