As you turn through the gates at Skelwith Fold the magical red road, winding to the park reception, is canopied by trees and bordered by woodland where you’ll likely catch a glimpse of resident wildlife, such as roe deer, woodpeckers, and if you’re lucky, even a red squirrel.
We welcome touring caravans, motorhomes and campervans to our holiday park in The Lake District. Our pitches are set in scenic positions around the park, with stunning views of the surrounding woodland and wildlife.
For motorhome and touring caravan holidays we are hard to beat. We offer the highest of standards and facilities. We are renowned as one of the finest touring caravan and motorhome parks in the Lake District.
We’re located just outside Ambleside in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Although Skelwith Fold houses over 400 pitches it has the feel of a much smaller park. The various accommodation areas have been carefully and sympathetically set out in small woodland glades. They are settled amongst natural undulating features, creating a sense of quiet and intimacy. We think that even in the height of the season, the park does not have a crowded feel.
However we’re more than just a caravan park. Our 130 acres are just waiting for you to explore. There are plenty of paths to follow, leading to a wealth of discoveries, including our mystical tarn, sculptures and breathtaking views of the Langdale Pikes and surrounding fells.
We have developed a range of glamping accommodation options to suit a variety of holiday experiences. For those wanting a unique couples getaway, our romantic hideaways provide the perfect retreat for a few days. Our Safari Lodges provide an exciting retreat for families looking to experience the outdoors whilst also enjoying the comforts of home. For an unforgettable family holiday our family hideaways provide an idyllic family Lakeland escape.
Our range of self catering holiday cottages in the Lake District offer an exceptional level of comfort. Stay in one of our luxurious holiday cottages on the historic Skelwith Fold Estate and you can relax with your family and friends with all the home comforts at your disposal.
They offer a fantastic base for you to explore the national park. Head off to one of the major towns near by or simply put your walking boots on and discover the stunning scenery on our door step.

We love the tranquility of this site and the wildlife. The site is very well presented and with lovely well maintained facilities. Nice 20 minute walk into Ambleside through the Woodland as well as the bus stop at the bottom of the drive if you don’t want to walk. I would highly recommend this site.
We love coming to Skelwith fold with our little caravan. As soon as we arrive the staff make us feel so welcome and when you meet them around the site they are always up for a chat.As you drive in through the gates the mature woodland scene is amazing, you can even see deer running through the trees if you’re lucky .We enjoy a peaceful few days every time we come and hope to come back again soon
Excellent site with friendly and helpful staff. Excellent facilities and ideally located with access to lots of walks and Ambleside
No TV signal on or around pitch 17, which was disappointing
The staff are so friendly and helpful. The toilet & showers are so warm and clean. The people here really care about their site and their visitors.
Amazing campsite, so peaceful, beautifully landscaped and excellent pitches. Facilities were very clean and modern. Well stocked shop and fair prices. The staff were so friendly, every member would so hello with a smile. Only campsite we would return to on the lakes.
Accessibility is reasonable although there is a shortish stretch of narrow road where care is needed. Staff are particularly welcoming and helpful and the site shop has a reasonable selection of drinks, food and caravan bits and pieces. Ambleside is a comfortable 40minute walk away although there is a bus service at the entrance to the site high runs almost hourly. Toilet and shower block is decent and clean with good cleaning facilities although would benefit from larger sinks to cater for body washing rather than having a full shower. The only downside for me was poor Wi-Fi and tv reception (we could not get any bbc channels).
Skelwith fold is idyllically located within woodland, where a lovely meandering driveway leads you from the local backroad to a spacious and beautiful caravan park.Touring facilities are always kept beautifully clean and are of very high standards. It's clear to see that the park staff take great care of their facilities and surroundings. Our kids enjoyed the well designed play park as much as the typically Cumbrian weather would allow, and made many new friends in the process. We sited ourselves very close to the play park for this reason, which is great, but the only pap-off being that you are situated further away from the chemical waste facilities than the other touring areas. Our choice, so no complaints. The park covers everything you could need, and even had a mobile pizza van on site for a few nights during our stay, which was beautiful! The only thing we would like to see on site would be a small bar to relax in and meet others. Otherwise, perfect!👌
We had a wonderful three night break at this campsite. It was spotlessly clean, well laid out friendly Stuff good little shop well stocked in a wonderful location. Couldn’t ask for more one of the best campsites we’ve been on.The only grape we had was the pitch allocation or lack of it, should I say.!! We found a decent spot got all set up then one of the wardens come along and told us we couldn’t park there which was rather annoying after we completely set up. There was no signs saying our eight meter vehicle couldn’t park there as it fitted perfectly in the pitch? My other suggestion to the campsite, owners would be to have some sort of pub/restaurant on site as I think this would really benefit site users due to the size of the campsite and distances of surrounding pubs.
We stayed in our touring caravan right next to the play area which was fab, except for the flying balls that hit our van! Only big issue was that the walk to the toilets was really far, seems like there should be some closer, especially as tourer area stretched well beyond where we were staying. Also, joined as members but were then told that the discount didn’t apply to high season. Yet I’ve since received a letter saying that the discount is during high season too, so all a bit confusing but meant we paid an extra £30 as card didn’t get us anything. We did love the setting of the site, enjoyed the local walks around & beauty of it all. Tip: don’t arrive too early! We got there about 1.35pm & had to wait outside the main gate til just before 2pm to go in.Reading over this, it sounds a bit negative which isn’t supposed to be the case, we really loved it & I’m sure we’ll return with friends, just hope the feedback is useful.
