As you turn through the gates at Skelwith Fold the magical red road, winding to the park reception, is canopied by trees and bordered by woodland where you’ll likely catch a glimpse of resident wildlife, such as roe deer, woodpeckers, and if you’re lucky, even a red squirrel.
We welcome touring caravans, motorhomes and campervans to our holiday park in The Lake District. Our pitches are set in scenic positions around the park, with stunning views of the surrounding woodland and wildlife.
For motorhome and touring caravan holidays we are hard to beat. We offer the highest of standards and facilities. We are renowned as one of the finest touring caravan and motorhome parks in the Lake District.
We’re located just outside Ambleside in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Although Skelwith Fold houses over 400 pitches it has the feel of a much smaller park. The various accommodation areas have been carefully and sympathetically set out in small woodland glades. They are settled amongst natural undulating features, creating a sense of quiet and intimacy. We think that even in the height of the season, the park does not have a crowded feel.
However we’re more than just a caravan park. Our 130 acres are just waiting for you to explore. There are plenty of paths to follow, leading to a wealth of discoveries, including our mystical tarn, sculptures and breathtaking views of the Langdale Pikes and surrounding fells.
We have developed a range of glamping accommodation options to suit a variety of holiday experiences. For those wanting a unique couples getaway, our romantic hideaways provide the perfect retreat for a few days. Our Safari Lodges provide an exciting retreat for families looking to experience the outdoors whilst also enjoying the comforts of home. For an unforgettable family holiday our family hideaways provide an idyllic family Lakeland escape.
Our range of self catering holiday cottages in the Lake District offer an exceptional level of comfort. Stay in one of our luxurious holiday cottages on the historic Skelwith Fold Estate and you can relax with your family and friends with all the home comforts at your disposal.
They offer a fantastic base for you to explore the national park. Head off to one of the major towns near by or simply put your walking boots on and discover the stunning scenery on our door step.

As always i did enjoy my week in my touring caravan at skelwith fold.the site is so well organised/the staff are so helpful and respectful and nothing is too much trouble to any of them.toilet and wash facilities are sowell kept it is a joy to use them.it is a joy to walk round the woodland walks on the site !i will stay there everytime i stay in the lake district in my touring caravan ! Thank you to everybody there ! Regards Frank Garvey
We have been several times now and it never disappoints. Site is clean and tidy, reception and shop well stocked. Toilets and showers are the best, always clean and smell fresh.Location couldn't be any better, away from roads so nice and peaceful, but then perfect for getting out and about. We even saw the deer this time, they've been hiding the last couple of visits!Best bit though is how friendly the staff are, greeting at reception on arrival was excellent but then all the other staff, whether walking around or passing in their buggies always give you a smile and a wave.
Although the weather was atrocious being able to take our dog for walks around the site was great and amazingly varied. The site was full but it was very quiet. The surrounding area - Langdale, Coniston, Tarn Howes are all stunningly beautiful areas to walk in and so close to the site. Skelwith Bridge Inn does a super Sunday lunch!!
It’s lovely turning into this caravan site and knowing you will have a lovely pitch surrounded by trees. The shower block is spotless and the under floor heating is brilliant. It’s a site that you can totally relax and enjoy the Lakes
Lovely site. Spotlessly clean and quiet at night. Just the ticket for a relaxing weekend in the lakes
Love coming to Skelly. Have done since a child. Slight problem with showers in toilet block as floor is too slippy with soap/shampoo and I slipped 3 times. Not good when you have rods in your spine. Big No No. need wooden boards down or rough tiles. Otherwise shower blocks are lovely. Staff are fantastic and friendly and shop/playground are excellent.
We normally stay south of Windermere but decided to try somewhere more local to Windermere, Bowness, Hawkshead, Coniston and Ambleside as these are usually where we end up spending our days away. What a find, easily accessible from M6 via A591 and 1 mile down the Ambleside/Hawkshead road. Turn through the gates and you're suddenly surrounded by forests, winding your way through to the reception. We were offered a choice of pitches by very welcoming staff. The facilities are superb, very clean shower facilities and toilets, laundrette, library, free dishwasher tokens for premium pitch users (premium pitched inc elec, water tsp, grey waste and TV aerial socket), large reception with shop and coffee machines. We'll definitely be back and we have no hesitation in reccomending this site to anyone. We have never stayed at such a peaceful and quiet site. We both commented how quiet it was even though they were fully booked. Views from around the site are fantastic..great for dogs to!
Friendly Staff as always facilities good as usual and a good shop if you run out of anything.
Excellent, modern facilities, helpful staff great location for lakeland touring.
