Rowbury Farm Camping

4.7 (94 reviews)

Rowbury Farm Camping is a family-run campsite on a working farm in the heart of Hampshire. The site is very quiet with exceptionally large pitches separated by strips of wildflowers and has views over Danebury Iron-age hillfort. There really is something for everyone in the Test Valley, whether it's cycling, walking, paddling in rivers or visiting pretty village pubs.

The Site

Rowbury farm Camping is a family-run campsite on a working farm in the heart of Hampshire. We have great views of the surrounding downland including Danebury hillfort. We aim to create a tranquil laid-back ambiance with 45 big pitches on 11 acres, separated by swathes of wildflowers. There are plenty of great places to walk and cycle and we are close to some beautiful Test Valley villages.

Facilities

We have a block of toilets and showers in purpose-built units, which are of good quality and provided with hot water. The men’s block is a shared facility with 2 showers, 2 toilets and some urinals. We have a large family unit with a shower and toilet; this has plenty of space for joint use with children. For the ladies there are two single-occupancy shower-toilet units and a separate toilet. We have a washing up area with 2 large twin-basin stands. We do not have fridges or charging facilities on site, but we do have a freezer for recharging cold packs.

Walking and Cycling

Test valley is riddled with public footpaths, permissive bridleways, and way-marked routes. The Test Way can be as hilly or as flat as you like (here it runs along an old railway line) and the River Anton Way runs 10 miles from the Mayfly pub all the way into Andover. Just down the valley at Chilbolton you can explore the downland nature reserve at West Down or potter in Chilbolton Cow Common on the banks of the River Test. Stockbridge watermeadows is also great for an easy ramble with kids and dogs and there are plenty of places for an ice cream or a cuppa in Stockbridge.

The 246 National cycle route is within a few metres of our gate and we are close to the King Alfred’s Way Long Distance Cycling route. May cyclists use us as a stopping point on all sorts of long distance trips - Bristol to Singapore probably takes the biscuit.

Historic Test Valley

From the campsite you can see Danebury Hill Fort which, as well as being an amazing viewpoint, has had extensive archaeological excavation. You can peruse some of the findings at Andover’s Iron Age Museum. Mottisfont Abbey is a magnificent National Trust property about 10 miles away down the Test Valley and makes an excellent (not too challenging) cycle ride.

The Army Air Flying Corp Museum is close by at Wallop. It is packed with historic planes and flying related memorabilia and is definitely worth a visit.

If you fancy a stroll through medieval streets, do some shopping and enjoy a coffee then Salisbury and Winchester are within 30 minutes drive.

What a great campsite. We loved the large pitches and the fact it wasn’t too busy. The toilets and showers were good, and the portable toilets were very handy. We were grateful of the coffee in the morning. All in all a very relaxing stay yhank you.

Brilliant site

This site was a right find! £13 for the Sunday night I stayed. You can pick your own pitch, there were separated by long grass in segments and gave a real sense of being on your own. Later the owner delivered some free tomato’s for me! Really friendly and welcoming.Facilities very clean, toilets with their own washbasin , the other side of the field also had portaloos- ideal for campers pitched there. In the morning they have a coffee truck and a few sears/tables.Brilliant site, I would highly recommend and visit again. Thank you

Beautiful surroundings, lack of communication ruins it

The campsite itself is stunning. If you want to sit in a field and do absolutely nothing else then it's would be great for you. Toilets clean and good showers. If you want to go with friends, have quiet music on (not disturbing anyone else) have a campfire and generally have a nice evening then don't bother. Whilst I appreciate wildfires etc. Not told before we arrived that we could no longer have campfire ( we would have gone somewhere else), been camping the weekend after to nearby site and no issues with campfire or quiet music. On arrival told charcoal ok, then used charcoal and told can't. Told on phone quiet music ok, arrive no you can't.

Low key and cared for

The site was easy to find and midweek in August was quiet and relaxing. The staff were friendly and approachable and the facilities small but clean and quite adequate. There are young trees around the site which, in time, will give shade.

What a brilliant find

I had been taking a break in Dorset and Devon and had planned to meet up with a friend from Winchester, Hampshire on route home and at the end of my holiday.I had a mad rush finding somewhere last minute and found Rowbury Farm and booked.it was far better than adequate for the one night, and not only was it better than OK it was that good I stayed another extra two nights. It is in a scenic area, camp was spotless and well planned out, loved the divides between the pitches and above all the hosts were just perfect and chilled out, while obviously working hard to keep the camp presentable, and what great value. With my camper van I have built up a list of good quality places to camp, well priced camps that I will always go back to, this camp is now on that list.Great stay

We had an amazing stay at this campsite! The grounds were clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by beautiful nature. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the facilities (especially the bathrooms and showers) were spotless. It was peaceful at night, with plenty of space between sites for privacy. Perfect spot for a relaxing weekend getaway - highly recommend!
