Rowbury Farm Camping

4.6 (67 reviews)

Rowbury Farm Camping is a family-run campsite on a working farm in the heart of Hampshire. The site is very quiet with exceptionally large pitches separated by strips of wildflowers and has views over Danebury Iron-age hillfort. There really is something for everyone in the Test Valley, whether it's cycling, walking, paddling in rivers or visiting pretty village pubs.

The Site

Rowbury farm Camping is a family-run campsite on a working farm in the heart of Hampshire. We have great views of the surrounding downland including Danebury hillfort. We aim to create a tranquil laid-back ambiance with 45 big pitches on 11 acres, separated by swathes of wildflowers. There are plenty of great places to walk and cycle and we are close to some beautiful Test Valley villages.

Facilities

We have a block of toilets and showers in purpose-built units, which are of good quality and provided with hot water. The men’s block is a shared facility with 2 showers, 2 toilets and some urinals. We have a large family unit with a shower and toilet; this has plenty of space for joint use with children. For the ladies there are two single-occupancy shower-toilet units and a separate toilet. We have a washing up area with 2 large twin-basin stands. We do not have fridges or charging facilities on site, but we do have a freezer for recharging cold packs.

Walking and Cycling

Test valley is riddled with public footpaths, permissive bridleways, and way-marked routes. The Test Way can be as hilly or as flat as you like (here it runs along an old railway line) and the River Anton Way runs 10 miles from the Mayfly pub all the way into Andover. Just down the valley at Chilbolton you can explore the downland nature reserve at West Down or potter in Chilbolton Cow Common on the banks of the River Test. Stockbridge watermeadows is also great for an easy ramble with kids and dogs and there are plenty of places for an ice cream or a cuppa in Stockbridge.

The 246 National cycle route is within a few metres of our gate and we are close to the King Alfred’s Way Long Distance Cycling route. May cyclists use us as a stopping point on all sorts of long distance trips - Bristol to Singapore probably takes the biscuit.

Historic Test Valley

From the campsite you can see Danebury Hill Fort which, as well as being an amazing viewpoint, has had extensive archaeological excavation. You can peruse some of the findings at Andover’s Iron Age Museum. Mottisfont Abbey is a magnificent National Trust property about 10 miles away down the Test Valley and makes an excellent (not too challenging) cycle ride.

The Army Air Flying Corp Museum is close by at Wallop. It is packed with historic planes and flying related memorabilia and is definitely worth a visit.

If you fancy a stroll through medieval streets, do some shopping and enjoy a coffee then Salisbury and Winchester are within 30 minutes drive.

Beautiful peaceful site

Our second trip to Rowbury farm did not disappoint! The pitches are huge and surrounded by wildflowers, the site is in a really peaceful location but an easy trip to good local pubs and village shop. Being able to have an off ground fire really rounds out the experience, and my dog loved his visit too.

Great site with simple clean facilities and friendly manager. Loved the fire pit and honesty box to pay for logs but not everyone is honest about the amount of logs in their bag ! Great pub in Goodworth Clatford about 1.5m away. Also could be better at recycling rubbish.

What an amazing site, I almost don’t want to leave a review because I don’t want loads of people discovering this little gem! Very relaxed, very quiet & very beautiful. Pitches mown in amongst banks of wild flowers. Clean loos & great facilities. It’s not bells & whistles but has everything you need to have a comfortable break away from the hustle & bustle of modern life…. The perfect site for me & I will definitely be back!

Little Gem of a Campsite

Gilmore, Simon - 27/06/2024

Great campsite, amenities are clean and sufficient. Inexpensive firewood, great off the ground fire pits. We cooked on the fire with a 12.5" skillet, worked perfectly. Like the way the campsite is laid out, longer grass and wild flowers between pitches. Quiet and peaceful if that's your thing. Great surroundings Countryside for cycling, Garmin gave us a nice 33 mile round trip. Decent local pubs. Trip one day to Thruxton Motor Circuit for a days historic racing, 20 mins drive away. Highly recommend, Clare our host was very helpful and friendly.

Beautiful peaceful location. Super clean facilities

Lovely wild meadow with mown patches to pitch up. Red kites overhead and barn swallows swooping around the grass. Only one ladies shower was available but there are normally two. It wasn’t a problem as it was so quiet on the site. very clean at all times. Two good wash up areas with really hot water. No chemical toilet disposal so be aware. Clare who welcomed me was lovely and helpful. I’d highly recommend a stay here is you would like a peaceful site with delightful views and the village of Stockbridge close by with some great shops for supplies. Super place for birdwatchers too.

Suited us perfectly

The most relaxing and peaceful campsite I have stayed on for many years. We spent two nights here with grown up children and their partners and dogs. Plenty of room for everyone in very generous sized pitches. The shower and toilet facilities were very clean, we never had to queue and there was always plenty of hot water. We walked locally in the day and found several pleasant village pubs/cafes nearby to stop at. In the evening were were happy to sit around the fire pit, barbeque food that we'd bought from nearby Andover, and chat or play cards. The pitches were thoughtfully landscaped with mown, flat grass separated by swathes of natural meadow grasses and flowers - very beautiful in mid June. I spoke with staff before and on arrival. Very polite, friendly and helpful. The site was almost full for the weekend, but because it was so spacious and well laid out we felt very private. Nice atmosphere with everyone just enjoying time away in peaceful Hampshire.

Beautiful site for a family break

Robert, Andrew - 15/06/2024

We stayed on the site as a family long weekend including a trip to Thruxton for the British Touring Cars. The site is beautifully layed out, facilities are clean and the fire pit with logs available to buy kept us warm when the British weather didn’t!! Also visited Stone Henge, Salisbury and Morrisons for the June roses - a great recommendation! Thank you to Claire for making us feel so welcome!
