Rowbury Farm Camping

4.7 (73 reviews)

Rowbury Farm Camping is a family-run campsite on a working farm in the heart of Hampshire. The site is very quiet with exceptionally large pitches separated by strips of wildflowers and has views over Danebury Iron-age hillfort. There really is something for everyone in the Test Valley, whether it's cycling, walking, paddling in rivers or visiting pretty village pubs.

The Site

Rowbury farm Camping is a family-run campsite on a working farm in the heart of Hampshire. We have great views of the surrounding downland including Danebury hillfort. We aim to create a tranquil laid-back ambiance with 45 big pitches on 11 acres, separated by swathes of wildflowers. There are plenty of great places to walk and cycle and we are close to some beautiful Test Valley villages.

We have a block of toilets and showers in purpose-built units, which are of good quality and provided with hot water. The men’s block is a shared facility with 2 showers, 2 toilets and some urinals. We have a large family unit with a shower and toilet; this has plenty of space for joint use with children. For the ladies there are two single-occupancy shower-toilet units and a separate toilet. We have a washing up area with 2 large twin-basin stands. We do not have fridges or charging facilities on site, but we do have a freezer for recharging cold packs.

Walking and Cycling

Test valley is riddled with public footpaths, permissive bridleways, and way-marked routes. The Test Way can be as hilly or as flat as you like (here it runs along an old railway line) and the River Anton Way runs 10 miles from the Mayfly pub all the way into Andover. Just down the valley at Chilbolton you can explore the downland nature reserve at West Down or potter in Chilbolton Cow Common on the banks of the River Test. Stockbridge watermeadows is also great for an easy ramble with kids and dogs and there are plenty of places for an ice cream or a cuppa in Stockbridge.

The 246 National cycle route is within a few metres of our gate and we are close to the King Alfred’s Way Long Distance Cycling route. May cyclists use us as a stopping point on all sorts of long distance trips - Bristol to Singapore probably takes the biscuit.

Historic Test Valley

From the campsite you can see Danebury Hill Fort which, as well as being an amazing viewpoint, has had extensive archaeological excavation. You can peruse some of the findings at Andover’s Iron Age Museum. Mottisfont Abbey is a magnificent National Trust property about 10 miles away down the Test Valley and makes an excellent (not too challenging) cycle ride.

The Army Air Flying Corp Museum is close by at Wallop. It is packed with historic planes and flying related memorabilia and is definitely worth a visit.

If you fancy a stroll through medieval streets, do some shopping and enjoy a coffee then Salisbury and Winchester are within 30 minutes drive.

Lovely no-frills site

Grey, Bede - 30/09/2022

The site has large pitches separated by areas of wildflowers, giving a sense of privacy. I was there in the autumn, so I missed out on the colour, but I shouls imagine it's beautiful in spring or summer. Another bonus is that it's more eco-friendly than having a large area of mown grass. Showers, toilets, and washing-up area are basic but sufficient and clean, although a light in the washing-up area would be good. Lights in the toilets and showers are on a motion sensor, so it saves electricity - good for the environment and keeps costs down.

Great campsite

McKillup, Anne-Marie - 13/09/2022

Campsite was perfect for us. We met the owner most days who was always happy to help. Site was well laid out, bathrooms were clean and hot water was great. Dish washing area also clean and tidy. Only 1 suggestion which is tiny is to have a Toiletries shelf in bathrooms....would make showering a resistant toddler easier 🤣. Otherwise perfect campsite and location and would love to come back.

Brooks, Andrew - 09/09/2022

Large campsite with friendly owner. Usually enough space to find a quiet spot. Views of patchwork fields and crofts into the distance.I think there's some sort of shooting club next door but didn't check it out.Quiet part of the South of England with small villages that have most of what you need for camping.Child friendly and a good price.

We went back for more!

Whetherly, James - 08/09/2022

This is the second time we have been to Rowbury in 2022- the first time was hampered by all of our co-campers catching covid post Glastonbury. Didn't stop us having a lovely time. Arranged to revisit with the same people and had an equally enjoyable time. The site is exceptionally peaceful and chilled (possibly all down to Claire) . Take your bike and leave your TV and phone behind . Enjoy the silence.

3rd time at rowberry

Meyer, Amanda - 03/09/2022

It was our 3rd time staying at Rowberry as it is such a lovely relaxed site. The views are stunning and at the right time of year the meadow flowers are beautiful. It’s location is perfect. It is in the middle of delightful villages with thatched cottages all around. I’m sure we will be back next year.
