Rowbury Farm Camping

4.7 (75 reviews)

Rowbury Farm Camping is a family-run campsite on a working farm in the heart of Hampshire. The site is very quiet with exceptionally large pitches separated by strips of wildflowers and has views over Danebury Iron-age hillfort. There really is something for everyone in the Test Valley, whether it's cycling, walking, paddling in rivers or visiting pretty village pubs.

The Site

Rowbury farm Camping is a family-run campsite on a working farm in the heart of Hampshire. We have great views of the surrounding downland including Danebury hillfort. We aim to create a tranquil laid-back ambiance with 45 big pitches on 11 acres, separated by swathes of wildflowers. There are plenty of great places to walk and cycle and we are close to some beautiful Test Valley villages.

Facilities

We have a block of toilets and showers in purpose-built units, which are of good quality and provided with hot water. The men’s block is a shared facility with 2 showers, 2 toilets and some urinals. We have a large family unit with a shower and toilet; this has plenty of space for joint use with children. For the ladies there are two single-occupancy shower-toilet units and a separate toilet. We have a washing up area with 2 large twin-basin stands. We do not have fridges or charging facilities on site, but we do have a freezer for recharging cold packs.

Walking and Cycling

Test valley is riddled with public footpaths, permissive bridleways, and way-marked routes. The Test Way can be as hilly or as flat as you like (here it runs along an old railway line) and the River Anton Way runs 10 miles from the Mayfly pub all the way into Andover. Just down the valley at Chilbolton you can explore the downland nature reserve at West Down or potter in Chilbolton Cow Common on the banks of the River Test. Stockbridge watermeadows is also great for an easy ramble with kids and dogs and there are plenty of places for an ice cream or a cuppa in Stockbridge.

The 246 National cycle route is within a few metres of our gate and we are close to the King Alfred’s Way Long Distance Cycling route. May cyclists use us as a stopping point on all sorts of long distance trips - Bristol to Singapore probably takes the biscuit.

Historic Test Valley

From the campsite you can see Danebury Hill Fort which, as well as being an amazing viewpoint, has had extensive archaeological excavation. You can peruse some of the findings at Andover’s Iron Age Museum. Mottisfont Abbey is a magnificent National Trust property about 10 miles away down the Test Valley and makes an excellent (not too challenging) cycle ride.

The Army Air Flying Corp Museum is close by at Wallop. It is packed with historic planes and flying related memorabilia and is definitely worth a visit.

If you fancy a stroll through medieval streets, do some shopping and enjoy a coffee then Salisbury and Winchester are within 30 minutes drive.

The camp site seemed like it was in the middle of nowhere as it was so quiet although not that far from Andover and the facilities were clean.

Last minute trip to the Test Valley

What a beautiful spot. We had a good patch of late summer weather in September and decided to go local, stay in Hampshire but spend a night away in a new area to us. So beautiful. The campsite was great, big pitches, super quiet at night, nice shower and toilets. Owners were about if needed and kept the place clean etc, but also left you to your own devices unless needed. Very good trip overall and had some delicious food at the Greyhound in Stockbridge, plus Meadow in Stockbridge.

My absolute favourite thing about this site is the NO MUSIC policy!! Having had some awful experiences on other sites with rowdy people. This site is great for sit back and relax and enjoy the view! Great that there is a little provided fire pit on each pitch, each pitch is massive too!Choose pitch carefully or not of a trek to the facilities. Owner was lovely and chatty but not intrusive in any way. She made sure she did checks on everyone and you can text her about anything at all. Only thing to suggest that needs attention was the short curtains! Bit grim with mould so put me off having a shower but was only there one night. Great site a 1 or 2 night getaway if you need a bit of peace and quite!

We stayed for just one night in our tent. The staff are very laid-back and friendly. The site is lovely. Very spacious. The fire pits provided were perfect for marshmallows. We brought our own wood but there is an honesty box for their supply. The facilities were clean and functional with hot water and stocked with soap/toilet rolls/paper towels. We’ll be back!
