Great spot. However, disapointing that water was not working.
I was walking the coast to coast and was warned that there was an event on so would be busy. That was fine and I was not bothered by the noise. However when I went to have a shower, they were not working. I was told that the caterers had used all the water and to try later. Even worse the next morning, I used the toilets and could not wash my hands as no water in the taps. No water in the field I camped in or the next field. Surely if you run out of water you should close??? I didn’t bother complaining as quite honestly the staff were not helpful.
Beautiful scenery 🙏🙏the round house is basic but it’s all you need 👍the only thing I would change are the opening times from the shop and cafe the stop serving food at 15:00 and then it closes at 16:00 no facilities are open after 16:00 no chance for walkers to have a nice cup of coffee or a shower and use a toilet after 16:00 it’s also a time when families would like to come and spend a bit of evening time together it’s not a complaint this but it’s something that could improve this beautiful place!!!
The site is more expensive than comparable sites for backpackers so poor value for money. One of the two men's toilets was blocked and dirty for over 24 hours - indicating a lack of inspections and cleaning. The locks to two doors to the men's shower changing area were broken so visible to outside - indication poor maintenance. The camping receptionist was unaware of where the socket for charging power banks was located - in the wash up area. - Poor staff training. There were always plenty of staff available in the restaurant, indicating the focus of the campsite. The burger I purchased I found too greasy. The view from the stone circle was fantastic - which is why I booked in there.
Good morning,Thank you for your valued review and feedback. We are a little more expensive than some of our local more local and basic sites, mainly owing to the VAT we have to charge for each pitch & our improved faciltiies, which on this occasion you did not enjoy.I would like to reply to your comments as follows to try and offer some context & action:1. We are very much welcoming to 'backpacking' guests, we host several hundred per year & always look after our guests to the best of our ability.2. Our toilets are inspected twice a day, once when cleaning each morning & on an evening before the café/shop closure, so rest assured it is not due to a lack of inspection but we do often have to unblock toilets due to misuse and damage.2. These locks to the showers are easily fixed so we could have repaired accordingly and we will action this of course - this is not an indication of poor maintenance but awe have had some damaged inflicted on these facilities recently by non camping guests which was unpleasant.3. Our staff are always trained and happy to help, to state that there were plenty of staff available in the café indicates how we always try and manage any issues by having trained and attentive staff available to help where possible. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us but rest assured, we have acted upon your feedback and it is not due to the lack of training or maintenance, with two caretakers employed every day throughout the summer season and always want to look after valued guests and visitors to our beautiful site.
An absolutely lovely pitch in the 'woodland retreat' area surrounded by forest, small secluded area for around 5 tents with picnic tables. Plenty of water taps around the campsite. Shower and toilet facilities I didn't personally think were the cleanest compared to other campsites and there was a stinking metal urinal in the men's block which wasn't pleasant. But overall the stay was great
Site is accessible (24hours a day!), Location is stunning and the views amazing. Staff are wonderful, helpful and friendly. The pod facilities are the best I have experienced with the services it provides, fridge, lighting, toilet and bed complete with bedding and the value for money - surprising Yorkshire value! Restaurant and Cafe have a great range and great value for money.Local attractions are the Cleveland Way and Lordstones views. My only recommendation would be to modify the shop offer. Catering for day trippers (which make most of the visitor population I suspect), but for this who are staying for a longer period some basics would be appreciated...fresh bread, cooked meats, beer and wine.
I took my dog, two grandchildren 6 and 2 and my daughter in law on this break and stayed in a pod. The pod village is an in closed space. In the area there is a pond which had frogs, and ducks and loads of lovely birds. My grandchildren loved looking at the wild life has did the adults. The staff were excellent particularly with the children. The pod was clean. Microwave and kettle were clean. The only thing missing was a can opener, has we had drought tin food to microwave. We ate in the restaurant, food was lovely. Overall we had a great time. Thanks Lordstone
The cap site is great, very private and unique area for the pods. We loved it !It is far enough from the bar/restaurant to avoid noise and a big enough area to allow children to explore. The pond is a great addition2 things that stood out for improvement - mattresses these feel very used and flat Shower block, a few DIY tasks required and a little TLC over the day would be good. Walkers can seem to access these during the day and it was full of grass when we went to use it
Loved the pods only issue was no service and the provided wifi didn’t reach the curlew pod we stayed in otherwise superb. Also wasn’t any proper utensils for bbq.
It was a great two nights and days. I have been several times before and will becoming back again. I love the views, and all the walks that can be done nearby.
