Set in well-maintained lawns with tarred roads, Lighthouse Leisure is less than a 2 minute walk from the beach and the historic Southerness Lighthouse.

On site we have an adventure playground and leisure complex offering plenty of fun and relaxation for all the family. The park has been in operation for nearly 50 years and being family owned, has built up a well-established warm and friendly atmosphere.

In addition to our 8 month camping pitches, we also operate as a child friendly park and have a fantastic outdoor play area for our younger guests to enjoy. Our touring area is suitable for tents/tourers/motorhomes and have an adjacent modernised toilet and shower facility.

As an ideal opportunity to enjoy the freedom of self-catering, guests can also relax in the comfort and luxury of our holiday caravans. We offer 2/3 bedroom Comfort Plus grade vans and 2/3 bedroom Comfort Pet Friendly caravans with double glazing and central heating.

All caravans have showers. Linen is provided but we ask that you supply your own towels. Cots and highchairs are available to hire. All gas and electric is included in the price.

Onsite, guests can avail of our quality Leisure Centre facility with its own swimming pool, coffee shop, entertainment room, bar, and separate bar for adults only. Immediately adjacent the Park is a fully stocked shop and a regular bus service from the village to Dumfries and intermediate villages.

Off site, there is a host of activities and past times for guests to enjoy. The park is situated next to the championship Southerness Golf Club and there are seven other courses of varying size within a 15 mile radius of Southerness. For those with an interest in angling, sea fishing is available along the coast and a selection of Loch and river fishing inland.

This area also offers several top quality cycling routes within just a 15 minute drive, and has many other cycle routes/paths in the surrounding area. With our prime location, we are also fortunate to have many coastal and forest walks in the surrounding area.

As a perfect day out for the whole family, Dumfries is a short 20 minute drive away where there is the Ice Bowl, Museum and Camera Obscura, the Aviation Museum, Robert Burns Centre, Caerlaveroch Castle, Britain’s only triangular castle and of course the many high street shops. Drumlanrig Caste and Country Park is just 18 miles North of Dumfries and offers something for all the family with an outstanding adventure play park, castle tours, craft workshop, cycle hire, walks and trails.

Less than an hour’s drive away is the world famous Blacksmith’s shop at Gretna Green where romantic runaway marriages were forged in past times. Also Gretna Gateway Outlet Village with around 50 stores and 5 cafes.

Family getaway

Ratcliffe, E - 03/11/2023

The swimming pool was brilliant and a great size for children, warm and clean. The site itself is fairly dull and uninspiring and our caravan wasn’t great. The bedroom light was broken so we had to use a lamp that also didn’t work consistently. The caravan was small and the furniture needed a good clean. The beds weren’t comfortable and there was condensation constantly on the windows as they were single glazed with small electric wall panels that didn’t touch the temperature and we weren’t comfortable with leaving the fire on. Our caravan also wasn’t the image associated with the booking image.

Lovely quiet family holiday.

We had a wonderful stay at Lighthouse Leisure! The site was really quiet as it was the end of the season in October but this didn’t stop us having a great week. The site is super close to the beach so we enjoyed lots of lovely walks with our dog. The sea goes out for miles so we got to enjoy lots of rock pools. We had tea at the chippy on site and also at Paul’s Bar and Grill another night both of which were great. The cafe across the road serves delicious hot chocolates and milkshakes too. We booked the pool for a swim and it was wonderful having it to ourselves, our children splashed about to their hearts content without bothering other people. We visited Dumfries town one day and also Mabie forest another both are well worth a visit. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely return.

Poor response with cancellation

McCart, Harry - 28/10/2023

We stayed at Southerness two weeks previous , so I thought I would book the same pitch as before for me and my disabled brother. The location was perfect and great facilities all on level ground. The problem was I had to cancel my booking as my brother had taken I’ll and couldn’t Tavel to Southerness. I phoned lighthouse leisure hoping to get a refund or rearrange another date, but the lady on the phone said that if no one takes the pitch we would lose our money

Stayed Mid October this year. Location - Quite remote. Small supermarket onsite, small clubhouse and a pub across the road.Fish and Chip shop also onsite but we didn’t use it.Nearest big Supermarket is 16 miles away.Accommodation - We stayed in a comfort plus caravan which was a little on the small side but adequate for the two of us.Clean on arrival.Caravan was freezing upon arrival as the heating had been turned off but didn’t take too long to warm up.Staff - Reception staff were very polite and helpful.Bar staff were also nice and friendly.Facilities - only used the clubhouse and supermarket once both small.Didn’t use the Fish and Chip shop.Didn’t use the Pool due to having to hire the whole thing at £20 for 90 minutes. Must be a nightmare in the summer months to go swimming when the site is busy.Overall - would I stay again, probably not due to location and the pool. Quite a few of the Caravans on the site are very old and require replacement.

Lovely beach

Lovely caravan friendly people. sadly there is no Out of Hours contact after 5 o’clock. so when our oven was not working. With our dinner in there at 5 o’clock. We were not told there was no Out of Hours contact, so we were phoning the number over an hour leaving messages except to expecting someone to get back.sadly with no reply. we had to try and get a phone number of someone from the bar and online. But he could not mend it. He was very polite, but you need an out of hours phone number in this business, sadly things don’t always happen before 5 o’clock

Hell on earth. Neds everywhere and music blaring 24/7 - not ideal when we’ve got an 18 month old trying to sleep.- Wi-Fi is that bad it won’t even load to let you pay for the stupid thing.- Shower is poor goes hot and cold.- Park is rundown reminds me of something out of shameless. Really depressing stuff! We were due to stay for 4 nights; we left after 2.It’s a shame because Dumfries area in general is beautiful but please select carefully

Come to southerness atleast once a year since having children, kids always have a ball. Slight disappointment this year as my pool bookings were not written down and kids were very upset as only thing they like to do did get another slot but very late in the evening so some missed out on swimming. However all still had a great time.

Clean and modern

Fyfe, C - 20/10/2023

We stayed for three nights in October. The welcome staff were friendly and informative showing us the exact location of our van and where the amenities were. The caravan itself was clean, modern, warm and well equipped. We visited the Mermaid bar once, it was well stocked and the entertainment good. We didn't visit the pool so cannot pass comment. The fish and chip shop was delicious and the staff friendly. Beach is handy and a lovely walk. We will not hesitate in going back to Lighthouse Leisure
