First impressions

We have recently stayed for a long weekend at Gosfield Lake site. When we arrived there was an event being held. The park was packed with people everywhere with a coach parked which blocked our access. This caused a blockage on the approach road and caused an irritation for the cars behind us. It wasn’t too long before the coach moved along with an inappropriately parked BMW!! Although the park was awash with people for the entire day, we didn’t hear anything from our pitch. We were told that they would be leaving reasonably early later that day, and they did. The park was spotless once they had left. We stayed on pitches 5 and 6. They were quite small pitches but as we were with friends we bunched up close together which was ok. Again the touring electric pitches were very quiet! I didn’t use the shower facilities but my friend did on one occasion. She said the shower wasn’t great, was just about warm and the open window was too high for her to close, so she was very cold. I did look in and they were spotlessly clean. The chemical toilet facilities were good, clean too and I liked the handy purpose build ledge that made the job much easier. Everything was at waist height which helped too. This was also the same location that you empty your grey waste which made it very difficult as your water hog is extremely heavy when full. So a simple drain with a grill that you roll over onto would be much more suitable. Both me and my husband had to lift it together in order to empty out. We felt it strange that a camping and touring site were unaware of a grey water waste hog and how to use one. We’ve not stayed at a site with unsuitable emptying facilities before. I have a feeling that all the others tourers emptied their hogs on the grass behind their caravan? We were told that there were nice walks from the site but we didn’t venture out, but went for a drive instead. We did also want to water ski, but as they didn’t have winter wetsuits we couldn’t as the water was still very cold. So make sure you have your own if this is something you want to have a go at. A nice quiet site with good places to visit nearby. We would also like to mention the lovely friendly chap in the cafe hut, nothing was too much trouble for him.. a credit to the park!

A lovely site next to a beautiful lake

The site was easy to find and in a lovely location. My only disappointment was the toilet and shower facilities were not very clean and no toilet roll (rectified by the lady in the house) and not fully open but it was very early in the season. Don’t let this put you off as I am sure this will be rectified as the season gets underway.Lovely small restaurant outside the entrance to the site who do a lovely Sunday Carvery.

Friendly staff, site very clean and nicely laid out, will definitely visit again. One word of caution if you drive a low vehicle, there are a couple of concrete speed bumps on the way in that the markings have worn off leaving them virtually invisible.. My SLK clouted its underside while going over them (no damage luckily).
