Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.

A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels and other wildlife.

There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.

There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin, for a small charge, and dog exercise areas are provided.

Churchwood Valley is home to over a hundred different species of bird including the rare Cirl Bunting, whose habitat includes a Site of Special Scientific Interest, part of which is on our land. Our beach is part of a voluntary marine conservation area and the Marine Centre just above the Old Mill Café provides an interpretation centre and a base for wardens who guide the frequent rockpool rambles in the summer months.

Over many years, many cabins and other buildings, have all been clad in chestnut, Monterey pine and elm – all grown, planked and seasoned at Churchwood. We also look to use low energy light bulbs wherever possible and phosphate-free cleaning agents to help protect the environment. Whenever we renew or replace buildings or equipment, we research what is available that is good for the environment.

We have won a Gold Conservation Award for no less than 24 years in a row from the David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme. This represents one for every year the accolade has been awarded and we are very proud to be one of the few holiday parks to have achieved this.

Location was great, the cabin had everything you need. Shop was not stock well so unable to pick up any basics. Mussel Inn was the highlight for food and coastal walks are well worth it Parking between cabins was tight if you have a larger car

We always love our annual May half term break to Churchwood Valley. I used to visit as a child with my parents and now my husband and I share the adventures and fun with our two children. I'm sure they too in time, will continue the memories with their own families in the future.Could think of a million different words to describe Churchwood Valley but one word will do - special! Roll on May 2027!

Been staying here for over 50 years a beautiful place.

There is only one criticism that we would make and that is the state of the double bed at 6 church walk, the mattress needs replacing, although a topper has been added it is still not accepable and very uncomfortable. Unless a new mattress is put in at no 6 we would not choose it again although it is the best pisition for us.

Peace amongst the trees and birdsong . A little gem I booked last minute as camping was going to be wet n miserable. The cabin was warm well appointed and safe . Loved being this close to nature

Leigh, Jane - 28/05/2026

Friendly staff and an ethos that care for the environment. Forest school in the summer . Lists of sightings of birds and insects all around . 5 mins walk to beach and riding school . Great pasties can be ordered in shop which sells basics . Well equipped kitchen for making own meals or pub nearby 5 mins by car . Roads are typically Devonian - access is via tight narrow one track lane. Good value for money , private secluded and unobtrusive in the landscape
