Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.

A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels and other wildlife.

There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.

There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin, for a small charge, and dog exercise areas are provided.

Churchwood Valley is home to over a hundred different species of bird including the rare Cirl Bunting, whose habitat includes a Site of Special Scientific Interest, part of which is on our land. Our beach is part of a voluntary marine conservation area and the Marine Centre just above the Old Mill Café provides an interpretation centre and a base for wardens who guide the frequent rockpool rambles in the summer months.

Over many years, many cabins and other buildings, have all been clad in chestnut, Monterey pine and elm – all grown, planked and seasoned at Churchwood. We also look to use low energy light bulbs wherever possible and phosphate-free cleaning agents to help protect the environment. Whenever we renew or replace buildings or equipment, we research what is available that is good for the environment.

We have won a Gold Conservation Award for no less than 24 years in a row from the David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme. This represents one for every year the accolade has been awarded and we are very proud to be one of the few holiday parks to have achieved this.

I have been coming for a very long time. I find it so relaxing within the trees, a 10 minute walk to the beach with our dog.

I love everything about church wood. We do like the morning walk to the beach with our dog then waiting for mill cafe to open so we can enjoy coffee, pasty and doggy ice cream. Many thanks xx

Absolutely amazing!

Francis, Liyah - 07/08/2026

We had such an amazing and serene time. The cabin was comfortable and exactly as described, the location was remote but still close enough to Plymouth and surrounding areas so we could explore. With how close it was to the beach, it was a no brainer to be down there most of the time. Every member of staff we encountered were lovely and friendly and it was an amazing experience! Such a perfect hidden gem, beautiful for star gazing and a little get away! We'll definitely be back!!

Leafy and tranquil spot near the beach

Heatley, Helen - 07/08/2026

The location is beautiful and very secluded, you can hear people in other cabins but it's generally very private. The area is quiet as well; although Wembury Beach has a NT car park it never seemed too busy locally. The cabins were solidly made of wood and generally comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. There's a generous terrace and outside sitting area and parking is close to your cabin. There are good walks right from the doorway but otherwise you are very dependent on the car for eating shopping etc although there is a little shop for essentials. The area is very steep as other people have said so everywhere is up or down a hill. They offer good recycling facilities. The shower was very small with low water pressure. We would have liked a non stick frying pan as all our breakfasts stuck to the pan!Could have done with some hooks in the bathroom and bedroom, and some shelves to put things on in the living area.

Brilliant stay as always

Beniston-Hall, Jo - 06/08/2026

I have been going to Churchwood since I was a child. Then continued when I got married, and that is 45 years of marriage. My children, now adults with children always classed when we said we were going on holiday we were going to Churchwood. Now my grandchildren say the same thing. We have just come back from a week’s stay, which was not long enough. We went with all the family. We had 3 cabins altogether which was brilliant because the children could go from one cabin to the other. Hubby and I often go more than once a year to Churchwood, solely for the peace and quiet. The photo below is the sunrise of our latest stay.

Wembury - our happy place

Mugridge, T - 05/08/2026

5

We love coming to Churchwood Valley and although it is perfect for us some of the cabins may be a challenge if you have limited mobility. It’s in a perfect woodland setting, peaceful and full of wildlife and less than 10 minutes walk to the beach with rock pools, the Wembury Marine Centre and a cafe. It’s safe to bring canoes, paddle boards or just to swim. A 20 minute walk uphill takes you to the closest pub and you can drive there in 5 minutes. The staff are super friendly and helpful and try very hard to help when you need their help and advice. The site has a laundry and shop for all your essentials including a small area with pocket money price treats for the children. It’s not far to the village shop and supermarkets are only a short drive away. It is a perfect destination if you aren’t looking for on-site entertainment, just peace and a chance to get back to nature and is great for walking the South West coast path too.

Such an amazing place.

Turner, Adrian - 05/08/2026

This was my 3rd year coming to Churchwood and my partner first came when she was a small child. We absolutely love everything about it. The peacefulness, the nature, the short walk to one of the most beautiful beaches and coastline, lovely cabins, friendly people everywhere, convenient shop on site with helpful staff. I really don't think there's anything I can say I don't like about it, apart from maybe, that's it's a long way from home.

Beautiful, peaceful stay for relaxing getaway

Jekabsone, Anda - 01/08/2026

5

We stayed during the heatwave and really appreciated our cabin, along with the small outdoor seating area tucked away in the shade beneath beautiful mature trees. The lush greenery made it an especially relaxing place to unwind. All of the staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful throughout our stay.We also visited the Valley shop and picked up some local Devon cider and beer, both of which were excellent. If you enjoy walking, there are some stunning coastal paths with beautiful scenery nearby. The beach is quite rocky, so water shoes are recommended. The walk down to the beach is easy, but be prepared for a steep uphill walk on the way back. One thing to be aware of is that the local roads are very narrow, which may be a little stressful for less experienced drivers.Overall, we had a wonderful, peaceful stay and would happily visit again.

House in the Nature

Martin, Juan - 31/07/2026

3

The house is really well located, in the middle of the forest and close to the beach. My concern was about lack of cleaning. We saw lots of spiders dead on the floor and many of them alive with spider webs holding in the door frames, means that none had cleaned them in a while. We say a rotten kiwi/lemon under one bed, easy to see and the mattress of the main room was very old and uncomfortable.Despite that we really have fund and enjoyed out stay.
