Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin, for a small charge, and dog exercise areas are provided.
Churchwood Valley is home to over a hundred different species of bird including the rare Cirl Bunting, whose habitat includes a Site of Special Scientific Interest, part of which is on our land. Our beach is part of a voluntary marine conservation area and the Marine Centre just above the Old Mill Café provides an interpretation centre and a base for wardens who guide the frequent rockpool rambles in the summer months.
Over many years, many cabins and other buildings, have all been clad in chestnut, Monterey pine and elm – all grown, planked and seasoned at Churchwood. We also look to use low energy light bulbs wherever possible and phosphate-free cleaning agents to help protect the environment. Whenever we renew or replace buildings or equipment, we research what is available that is good for the environment.
We have won a Gold Conservation Award for no less than 24 years in a row from the David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme. This represents one for every year the accolade has been awarded and we are very proud to be one of the few holiday parks to have achieved this.

We stayed for three nights. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. Very peaceful. It was a short walk to the beach and coastal path. The staff were very welcoming.
This is our third visit to Church wood as we really love the location, atmosphere and their ethos. It's a very quiet peaceful place, you hardly ever see anyone else so you can enjoy looking and listening to nature. The cabins are basic but very clean and well equipped with everything you could need. The beds are very comfortable.Slight negative is the size of the TV and the sofa needs replacing as it's not comfortable.
Our fourth year here, we adore Churchwood! See you next year 😎
This was the 5th year we have stayed at Churchwood Valley. and we have provisionally booked again. We come here as a large group in 3 cabins, 2 mums and dads their adult children and their partners. this is a lovely place to visit, the staff are friendly and helpful, the cabins are clean and comfortable and the area is beautiful. It's a relaxing break walks along the coast to coves and pubs. trips out to nearby National Trust properties and nearby towns and days just relaxing and reading if a rest is needed.
This place is pure heaven for the ones looking for peace and quiet. The cabins are furnished for essentials needed for a holiday. The cabins are private and not really over looked. I like the idea we had a fence around the private garden making it secure for our dogs. Nobody bothers you but the staff are there if needed. I highly recommend if wanting to get away from the hassle from everyday lifel The beach is close by although my mobility dosnt allow me to walk onto the beach. It's such a beautiful place and I highly recommend it. Will definitely be back again
We have been to Churchwood many times over the years ...excellent value for money always relaxing and peaceful. We prefer a cabin where the opposite side of the valley(houses!) Isn't so visible so avoid Middle Rd 6 if you feel the same .The cabins are always clean , decor and fittings variable
Have been a few times, lovely location in acres of woodland and coastal walks. Came with 2 dogs, which is a great area for dog walking. Accommodation is basic, maybe a bit dated but very clean.
This is our second time (stayed last year) staying here it’s so peaceful and relaxing just listening to the wildlife around you. You need a car to get around as it is quite hilly and I can’t walk far without getting a little breathless. There are lots of walks around and a beach fairly close with a cafe which I just about managed to walk to and back. The on site shop has all your basic needs and there is a small laundry room. If you are looking for very relaxing and peaceful (apart from the sound of the wildlife) then this is the place to come and unwind but saying that there is plenty to do if you want to get out and about. We just love Churchwood Valley and will be back next year 2026
As if the lovely park, the friendly stuff, the nature around that alone would be enough, Churchwood valley provides a very close-to-nature experience which we used for a couple of days of downtime - where we enjoyed the local pubs and hiking trails.
I like it here as you can get away from the noise of traffic, shops and loud people. It is so close to the sea and the coastal path that it is ideal for walkers.
