Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin, for a small charge, and dog exercise areas are provided.
Churchwood Valley is home to over a hundred different species of bird including the rare Cirl Bunting, whose habitat includes a Site of Special Scientific Interest, part of which is on our land. Our beach is part of a voluntary marine conservation area and the Marine Centre just above the Old Mill Café provides an interpretation centre and a base for wardens who guide the frequent rockpool rambles in the summer months.
Over many years, many cabins and other buildings, have all been clad in chestnut, Monterey pine and elm – all grown, planked and seasoned at Churchwood. We also look to use low energy light bulbs wherever possible and phosphate-free cleaning agents to help protect the environment. Whenever we renew or replace buildings or equipment, we research what is available that is good for the environment.
We have won a Gold Conservation Award for no less than 24 years in a row from the David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme. This represents one for every year the accolade has been awarded and we are very proud to be one of the few holiday parks to have achieved this.

Myself and my rescue dog managed to escape the firework 3 weeks for a short time. Chloe the dog enjoyed the close beach, digging in the sand and playing with driftwood. She has along way to go with her confidence but this has helped hugely.Thank you for all your kindness and consideration.
Hellothank you for your lovely comments, and we are delighted that both you and Chloe enjoyed your stay. Do remember that if you decide to bring Chloe back again, whilst Wembury beach is closed to dogs during the main season, you will still be able to visit nearby Langdon Beach which is dog friendly all year round .Thanks once again for your great review.
A lovely relaxing environment. The cabin had everything that is required. A fantastic family run business.
My elderly mother and I thoroughly enjoyed a peaceful week's break here, just before schools broke for half-term. Initially allocated a higher road cabin, on an incline amidst the tree tops, the staff kindly initiated a move to a lower road cabin - on the flat, overlooking river, paddock / horses, to make life easier & more comfortable for my mum, re her mobility. Lovely, friendly & helpful staff, for whom nothing was too much trouble. The location is also fabulous, with stunning coastal views. Definitely recommended! :)
Disneyland claims to be the happiest place on Earth. It isn't - Churchwood Valley is. We have been coming to Churchwood Valley since 1978. The peace and tranquility is heavenly. The valley location shelters the cabins and outside spaces from any coastal wind - we have just spent our weekend sitting quietly, bathed in warm sunshine, in early November. The beach is wonderful for rock-pooling when the tide is out, and surfing when its in! The cliff walks are bracing in the autumn weather. The charming cabins are spotlessly clean, thoughtfully designed and well stocked. There is a small shop and a laundry on site and Reception is always friendly and helpful, and there are three very good local pubs to visit. Long may we continue to enjoy Churchwood Valley!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us this lovely review!
Excellent location, comfy cabin, beds made up on arrival, dog friendly, washing machine in cabin, plenty of crockery, pots, pans, and cutlery. Plenty of birds and lovely scenery.I would say the park is not suitable for people with mobility issues. There are steps up and down to the cabins and very steep roads and pathways. It was fine for us but we wouldn't be able to bring our elderly relatives. We walked every day to Wembury beach and along the coastal paths. There are so many places to visit from here, we went to Lands End, St Michael's Mount, Tregantle Beach, The Eden Project, Wembury beach, Warren point, Plymouth and surrounding areas such as Plymouth Hoe, Royal William Yard, Sutton Harbour, and the National Marine Aquarium, there's plenty to do and see!
Lovely peaceful site among trees, fresh air and wildlife. The staff are really helpful, a shop for necessities, and launderette for those beach towels etc.Churchwood is in a beautiful peaceful site, next to Wembury beach, its quaint church and lovely coffee shop. Plus lots to explore and enjoy. The children love the many rock pools, and all a safe beach offers. Our cabin was warm and comfortable, with good Wi fi signal. We will definitely be back many more times.
We just love Churchwood Valley, this is the third time we’ve been there and we can’t wait to go back. This is the place we recharge our batteries, the surrounding area is so peaceful. I would like to say thanks so much for all support by the staffs and for going above and beyond to make our stay special. Our cabin was so cozy, beds amazingly comfortable and the shower was just perfect, I wouldn't ask for anything else. Many thanks,Lisandra
Stopped in a lodge for a long weekend with my partner, our daughter and our two cocker spaniels. The lodge was very secluded with everything we needed.Went on some picturesque walks along the coastline and at Dartmoor(a short drive).Had a very peaceful weekend and a fantastic meal at the local pub.
The lodge was clean and very well equipped. Very private and in beautiful natural settings, we had a visit from an inquisitive squirrel and a pheasant popped onto our decking to say hello.A short walk to the beach. All the staff were very polite, helpful and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble.Only negative was it smelt musty when we arrived and was cold, maybe putting on the heating prior to arrival would have helped
We stayed at Churchwood Valley for a short break in October. I must admit that I was concerned we might be a bit cold but the lodge was lovely and warm and cosy. We were really surprised at the space and the lodge was very well equipped and beautifully clean. The little shop on site had all the basics that you might have forgotten to pack and the staff were friendly and polite. Loved the location, really good if you have a dog as it’s a short walk to cliff walks and the small bay. There are also some very good pubs near by. We went to the Mussell Inn and the staff in there were lovely and the food was great. If you have mobility problems ensure that you ring Churchwood for a chat before you book as we noticed many of the lodges had lots of steps and the overall site is quite hilly if you can’t walk far. We will definitely go back at some point as we had a wonderful time there despite the rain!
