Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.

A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels and other wildlife.

There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.

There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin, for a small charge, and dog exercise areas are provided.

Churchwood Valley is home to over a hundred different species of bird including the rare Cirl Bunting, whose habitat includes a Site of Special Scientific Interest, part of which is on our land. Our beach is part of a voluntary marine conservation area and the Marine Centre just above the Old Mill Café provides an interpretation centre and a base for wardens who guide the frequent rockpool rambles in the summer months.

Over many years, many cabins and other buildings, have all been clad in chestnut, Monterey pine and elm – all grown, planked and seasoned at Churchwood. We also look to use low energy light bulbs wherever possible and phosphate-free cleaning agents to help protect the environment. Whenever we renew or replace buildings or equipment, we research what is available that is good for the environment.

We have won a Gold Conservation Award for no less than 24 years in a row from the David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme. This represents one for every year the accolade has been awarded and we are very proud to be one of the few holiday parks to have achieved this.

Secluded and peaceful location

Tidball, Katarina - 30/06/2026

Garden Lodge was the ideal place to sit out last week's heatwave ! It was shady and cool and only a ten minute walk to Wembury beach through woods. This was an anniversary visit to Churchwood Valley as I first came here with my parents in 1966 and we often came here in the 1980s, when our two sons were little - the accommodation has improved since those early days, as the outside toilets and bunk beds have been replaced by more comfortable amenities, but the essential appeal of staying in a wooded valley surrounded by nature and wildlife has remained the same.

Such a wonderful place - staying in a wooded valley, hearing the birds, walking to the beach, enjoying the sea views from the cliff path, eating at local pubs and beach cafe, relaxing in the well equipped cabin.

Return visit

Page, Marilyn - 27/06/2026

Access to the site on our arrival day was challenging due to local road closures. Access to our allocated cabin was straightforward using the map provided and signs. Staff friendly and helpful. Cabin very clean and tidy with sufficient equipment for four. Safety addressed. However, we found the “shower cubicle” very restricting, small and difficult to use. It was not the walk in type of shower shown in the advertised picture (an important reason to choose this type of cabin). It was a short , half size bath with a low seat taking half of the space. On arrival there was no internet due to a fault requiring a part (also affecting another cabin). No internet throughout our stay, but available in the road outside and the Information Room. (Different cabin offered). The whole site is delightful in the peaceful woodland setting with a fairly easy walk to the beach - but uphill on return! Stables carpark available - helpful. Bought our food needs at Tesco Lee Mill enroute. Value? Reasonable

Great Base for Family Holiday in Devon

Beesley, Julie - 26/06/2026

The whole family, all nine of us (ranging from toddler to mid-sixties) plus a dog descended on Churchwood at different times on our arrival date. Not a problem and all was hitch free. We took three lodges on the Lower Road overlooking the valley and it’s difficult to convey in a short review, the serenity and relaxed charm that the park very quickly exudes. Ten minutes from the beach, fifteen from the pub, right on the SouthEast Coastal path, it is ideally situated! So why only ‘good’? Well, nit-picking, a small playground for young children and perhaps a little more for young adults to do might just make the difference, but we did not miss such facilities and had a great time. A big shout for the sauna and plunge pool facilities, these were very popular! Will most certainly return!

Family holiday

Old, Graham - 24/06/2026

We enjoyed our stay at Churchwood with our family. Being able to have 2 cabins one above the other, yet apart from others and private, was really good. The Cabins were clean and fresh and we loved the ease at which we could access the lovely beach. The holiday was excellent value for money and everything we we required was available. We would suggest some new crockery for the Cabins as we mixed and matched between the two to get enough glasses and mugs for drinks. We love the area around, and despite the weather, went to various places. Thanks

Peaceful and quiet, surrounded by nature

Cryer, Sally - 21/06/2026

Loved my stay here. I was walking the coastal path and it was very close to the path. Minimum 2 night stay was fine as it was close to bus service so possible to loop back.Loved the cabin, it was so cosy and peaceful, surrounded by trees, and I had my own little space to sit out.The staff were more than kind. I was using luggage transfer and they put my bag in the cabin and insisted on picking it up for me as well, which I really appreciated. The shop was handy given I had no transport to buy food. It would have been nice to have some more fresh stuff, like fruit, but I understand that they probably don't have the turnover in the shop to allow for that.

Tranquil Wood Stay

Goddard, Ivan - 21/06/2026

Very relaxing dog friendly stay. Waking to the dawn chorus every morning is a real treat. Wembury beach us lovely, but no dogs permitted on beach from May to September, but a short walk down the coast gives access to plenty of coves where dogs can swim with you. Only downside is very poor water pressure in the shower.
