Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin, for a small charge, and dog exercise areas are provided.
Churchwood Valley is home to over a hundred different species of bird including the rare Cirl Bunting, whose habitat includes a Site of Special Scientific Interest, part of which is on our land. Our beach is part of a voluntary marine conservation area and the Marine Centre just above the Old Mill Café provides an interpretation centre and a base for wardens who guide the frequent rockpool rambles in the summer months.
Over many years, many cabins and other buildings, have all been clad in chestnut, Monterey pine and elm – all grown, planked and seasoned at Churchwood. We also look to use low energy light bulbs wherever possible and phosphate-free cleaning agents to help protect the environment. Whenever we renew or replace buildings or equipment, we research what is available that is good for the environment.
We have won a Gold Conservation Award for no less than 24 years in a row from the David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme. This represents one for every year the accolade has been awarded and we are very proud to be one of the few holiday parks to have achieved this.

A quiet and peaceful stay, ideally situated for some nostalgic visits to our old haunts in & around Plymouth. Great to sit on Wembury Beach & watch the sun go down behind the Mew Stone.
We just spent a week (Monday-Friday) at Churchwood and we have been recommending it to all our friends and family. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The cabin was extremely clean, the staff were friendly, and it was excellent value for money. This is the second time we have stayed here in recent years - my husband stayed here as a child with his parents when they were looking for somewhere to live in the Wembury area - it brought back very pleasant memories for him!
We've been going there for years, since 1980. An excellent place to stay.
Great place to chill, so near the sea and wonderful walks for us all to take the dog. It is so rare to find a place we feel at home and comfortable with and in. Apart from one small thing. Can you not put the wall mounted TVs a little lower down as we always get a slight crick in our necks and the comfort rating tends to diminish somewhat. Apart from that very slight negative everything else is great and we will return often, as we have done since we first discovered Churchwood Valley a few years ago.
Thank you for your lovely comments and helpful feedback. We are currently working to improve the positioning of the TVs!
A lovely place set amongst woodland and a 5 minute walk to the beach. The coast line is beautiful. Only a 20 minute drive in to the centre of Plymouth. Would highly recommend.
Very friendly staff, very environmentally aware throughout the cabins and site. Lovely well equipped cabin left clean and with plenty of equipment to keep it clean during the stay.Lots of lovely walks to various beaches depending on how far you like to walk. The cafe at Wembury has a good range of drinks, ice creams and snacks.Further afield the boat trips around Plymouth Sound , trips to the Yealm river and the Tamar range from one hour to half days. Very easy to book and not far to drive. The Coypool park and ride has free parking and a regular bus service into Plymouth where you can access the boat trips.
We’ve been coming down for the last 20 odd years the last four years we’ve been 2-3 times a year. Absolutely brilliant holiday either with family or just us and the 2 dogs. We relax from day one after the first hole day it feels like we’ve been there at least 3 days . Never want to go home
I first came to Churchwood Valley when I was 6 and I’m now 59. I’ve been coming with my own family every year since 2006 and, even though my 3 children are now between 21 and 30, we all still love coming. We even have partners coming along now and in-laws who book the cabin next door. It’s more than just a holiday location to us, it’s like a second home. Comfortable cabins in a gorgeous natural setting and a short walk to the beach. The Odd Wheel pub in Wembury village serves great food and the Old Mill Cafe on the beach serves great coffee and snacks. This is a place to truly relax, unwind and leave the noise of the world behind you.
We enjoyed a wonderful week of sunshine and rest. We have visited many times before but each visit to our cabin surprises us yet again with its immaculate cleanliness and the attention given to detail. The cabins have everything that we need for a good holiday. The owners are friendly and extremely helpful. The well stocked shop and the Old Mill Cafe catered for our food requirements. A celebratory meal at the nearby Odd Wheel was excellent. We first visited Churchwood Valley 64 years ago when we were on honeymoon. It is a beautiful place and a joy to revisit. We returned home feeling completely rested and refreshed. You did us good! A BIG THANK-YOU to all the staff.
Once again, the lovely people at Churchwood welcomed me back with big smiles, good humour and kind gestures. My stay was perfect, and it seems to get better with each and every stay. Loved the refreshed A2 cabin, all the upgrades throughout the park, and all while keeping the soul of the place intact, the protection of flora & fauna, and how I remember it all as a child. Can’t wait to come back. Thank you Churchwood peeps!
