Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin, for a small charge, and dog exercise areas are provided.
Churchwood Valley is home to over a hundred different species of bird including the rare Cirl Bunting, whose habitat includes a Site of Special Scientific Interest, part of which is on our land. Our beach is part of a voluntary marine conservation area and the Marine Centre just above the Old Mill Café provides an interpretation centre and a base for wardens who guide the frequent rockpool rambles in the summer months.
Over many years, many cabins and other buildings, have all been clad in chestnut, Monterey pine and elm – all grown, planked and seasoned at Churchwood. We also look to use low energy light bulbs wherever possible and phosphate-free cleaning agents to help protect the environment. Whenever we renew or replace buildings or equipment, we research what is available that is good for the environment.
We have won a Gold Conservation Award for no less than 24 years in a row from the David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme. This represents one for every year the accolade has been awarded and we are very proud to be one of the few holiday parks to have achieved this.

Been many times over the years, so peaceful and relaxing, cabins are a little tired but well equipped with everything you need and spotlessly clean. Very hilly and some spots are tight to get in and out with car. At night you can hear the wildlife. Will definatly be stopping for the next few years.
Staff are always.friendly and helpful. Site is clean, lodges are clean and tidy. Access to the beach for rockpooling or walks along the cliffs. Great place tobget away from it all.
Had a lovely weekend, just perfect for getting away from it all x
A lot of privacy, nice house and near to the beach. We had a wonderful time.
Absolutely loved staying here. So many different birds. The cabin was so cute and nicely decorated. A stones throw from the beach. Beautiful
So wonderfully peaceful, cannot wake to return.
The folk are friendly and organised my stay at short notice on a Sunday for which I was grateful. The cabin was clean and reasonably well equipped. The decor and amenities were clean but dated and rather in need of an upgrade. The shower is very small however even for me and I am not large. The shower water quantity and pressure was low and did not make for a satisfying shower. While I believe in water conservation, this was a disappointing experience. The shower may look functional when you turn it on but really it's very weak.I am sure not all cabins are the same.
We have stayed here many times over the years, my as a child with her family too. We love the quiet and peaceful nature of the set up, the short rural walk to the beach and the surrounding wildlife. We always feel thoroughly refreshed after being here and will continue to visit regularly. Let's not forget that it is dog friendly and within easy reach of other sights and attractions, so a good base for exploring the area.
We loved our stay at Churchwood, especially with all the wildflowers around the lodge. It was an ideal setting to walk down to the beach and along the coast path. Our lodge was clean and warm and had everything we needed. The staff were very helpful and gave us good advice about the local places to eat. Looking forward to our next visit.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 nights at Churchwood Valley and wished it had been longer. The 1 bedroom cabin was perfect for me and the dog with the proximity of the beach and coastal path being one of the highlights. Although the furnishings are a little dated, it was comfortable and warm, and well equipped. The patio area was lovely although I didn't get chance to use it. One niggle was the very inconsistent WiFi but I am reassured that is being looked into. A suggestion would be a gate to the patio then the dog has some secure outside space. I look forward to returning for a longer stay soon.
