The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire, that offers you chilled out camping and glamping that's in-tune with nature and doesn't cost the Earth. There are just 40 pitches in a 6 acre field, which nestles in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite.
Camping and Glamping in Yorkshire – you will LOVE it here…
…if you appreciate nature and peacefulness off the beaten track…
…if you want to toast marshmallows on an open campfire whilst gazing at a sky laden with stars...
…if you want time to yourself to read your favourite book or watch the Kingfishers and the Otters.
The Hideaway, Baxby Manor is a special, peaceful and restful place where you can spend precious days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A haven for walkers and cyclists, and a perfect base for exploring the many historic, cultural and outdoor attractions of this lovely part of Yorkshire. We are about camping, campfires, the countryside and getting away from it all.
Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine.
Perched on a hillside in woodland belonging to the 14th Century medieval Baxby Manor access to Rufus’s Roost is via a suspension bridge walkway! Between the two turrets there is a large veranda for alfresco dining complete with a log-fired pizza oven and a tree top hot-tub! For the cold dark winter months there is a "Den” complete with bean bags, comfy cushions, TV, games console, movies and popcorn machine, accessed via slide! However we’d much prefer it if you went outside and embraced the Great Outdoors and discovered what it has to offer - so inside Rufus’s Roost you’ll find binoculars and a bat monitoring station! We would love it too if you let us know what animals you spot whilst here so we have created a ‘Beasts, Birds, and Bugs’ log for you to write in. Sleeps up to six - two doubles on the ground floor and one double on the mezzanine. All bedding and towels are provided so you just need to bring yourselves plus food and drink!
There is parking for up to four cars per booking, due to parking space restrictions please contact us if you intend to come in more than four cars.
NB Due to our abundant wildlife habitats please keep noise to a minimum after 10pm, especially if out on the veranda and in the Hot-Tub.

All reviews featured on Campstead.com have been submitted by genuine customers who have stayed at the park.
We loved our one night stay. It had the excitement of camping but with the comfort of a lodge. We stayed in hogletts. It was warm, comfy and very clean. I have arachnophobia so visiting somewhere like this in September was risky but the facilities were spotless. No heebeegeebees going to the loo. The only creatures we saw were chicken, squirrels and robins. The shops, bar, pizza shack all looked great. We will definitely come back again.
We stayed in this site tent camping in the Sanctuary in the woods which was a massive pitch sarrounded by trees on all 4 sides .It was the most relaxing time ever . Amenities were outstanding . First class imaculate toilets showers washroom .Airbed pumping free . Kitchen washroom for cleaning pots . Freezer to store food , seperate large fridge for food storage , second large fridge to store drinks . We ordered a pizza for evening meal with sides and breakfast . The main hobbit habitats in what I call a village sarrounded by 6 foot apple trees was amazing we even bought treats to bring home from the gift shop . All in all this is a campsite not to miss the staff are friendly and are happy to chat . Thankyou all for a lovely stay at the Sanctuary.
Great site, was lovely to be able to pitch the van next to our friends in tents and the facilities were the cleanest I've ever used at a campsite. Really nice pitches as the site is split into sections so wherever you pitch feels quite private. So peaceful too. Will definitely return.
We had an amazing stay at Baxby Manor and would definitely return! The setting is gorgeous, peaceful and so well thought out. The staff were lovely, the hot tub was spotless, and the Pizza Shack was brilliant - plenty of food and drink options and the pizzas were so good! The reception shop also had everything you could need if you’d forgotten something. Our only feedback would be a little more attention to the finishing touches at Kabina 2. There were many cobwebs, inside and also around the outside lights, and the weeds around the lodge could have done with a tidy. A couple of the smaller light switches also didn’t work, and a mirror near a plug socket would be really useful.Small things in an otherwise fantastic stay - we had a brilliant time and would happily come back!
We loved it here. Coming the final week of the summer holidays, it was super quiet and we ended up with our section to ourselves! We loved the pizza shack as it saved us having to cook too much! The toilets and showers were super clean. The kids loved pottering around the site and seeing the chickens roaming around. We will definately return.
Thank you. We had a lovely stay over the Bank Holiday weekend. Our family thoroughly enjoyed the relation and quietness of this lovely site. The site was extremely clean and facilities were perfect. Great pizzas too. Thank you
We chose Baxby Manor as a first family camping trip, it’s years since I’ve been camping and I wanted my child to have a wonderful experience. We loved Baxby Manor. The excellent facilities - loos, showers, pot washing were all ample, plenty of hot water, no queues. The campsite itself is wonderful, distance between pitches makes it feel secluded and very peaceful. Thoughtful touches like the wheelbarrows to help with unloading the car. We loved the pizza place on site - wonderful to be able to get a decent coffee in the morning and the pizza was one of the best I’ve ever had. The chickens were an unexpected hit too - my child loved going to see them.
We loved Baxby Manor, we stayed in a Kabina and our Son and his family had a tent pitch TE3. The whole feel of the site was fabulous, well laid out quite and Eco friendly. The staff were all very helpful, friendly and got to know us by name which made it feel personal. It was very clean, tidy and it was a pleasure to stay there. We went out on 3 days to castle Howard, Flamingo Land and Diggerland. On the other days we stayed on the site. On site was a great Pizza shop where you could buy pizzas to have at your Kabina or tent. If you are coming with young children you will need to bring outdoor toys for them, there is just a kids playground about 10 minutes from the site.We had such a great time we have booked to go back in April next year
Location lovely Dog friendly chickens very friendly too Staff friendly and helpful Clean facilities Fire pit brilliant Good value for money Pizzas were really good breakfast sandwiches were delicious as was the coffee on our last day Only fault was the wheel barrow to transport all our belongings
We loved our brief visit to Baxby Manor, it was a super campsite. We stayed here after visiting Helmsley and it was definitely a good choice. The facilities were very clean and everything provided for the camper. We particularly loved the treat of a pizza from the Pizza Shack and the delicious honey. It is a lovely small contained site and seemed ideal for families with young children. It was also a treat watching the hens in the middle of our field. We will definitely visit again but for a longer visit next time.Thank you for a wonderful campsite, which I will be recommending to others.
