Barrow Campsite, Nairn

4.7 (158 reviews)

Situated on an arable farm in the Highlands of Scotland, Barrow Campsite sits on the banks of the river Nairn. It is within cycling distance of the historic town of Nairn and a short drive to the city of Inverness. It overlooks the rolling hills and is only a few miles from spectacular beaches.

Our touring campsite and glamping pods are dotted about this wonderful and secluded landscape surrounded by natural and arable land. The river ‘Nairn’ can be accessed from the site and in the Spring it’s banks are covered with thousands of bluebells.

It’s a place a world apart from the rush and clutter of the modern holiday experience, with an atmosphere that makes you forget the world outside, and just lounge, ramble, or potter about.

We're committed to giving you a genuinely individual service from first contact to your time staying with us and “contribute to making happy memories every day”.

On Site is an ancient archaeological monument. This monument is locally known as 'Hangman's Cairn' and is an excellent example of a well-preserved Bronze Age Barrow and contemporary surrounding bank. The monument comprises a sub-circular mound, measuring around 25 m in diameter and standing to a height of around 3.3 m.

Our large 12m x 7m hard-standing touring pitches are arranged sympathetically around the Site to allow for different views wherever you pitch up. All these pitches have electricity, and a water tap is shared between two pitches. One hard-standing pitch situated near the toilet block is a dedicated disabled pitch.

The grass pitches are there for the smaller vehicles - roof tents, campervans, small motor homes and very small tents and are located overlooking the nature park and pond. A number of these pitches have electricity. Water taps are shared amongst the grass pitches. For non electric tent pitches you will be shown to a suitable spot.

One of our recent additions to the site is a dedicated ‘Nearly wild camping’ area. Situated slightly away from the other campers, sheltered behind a large hill offering a more relaxed feel for 4x4 vehicles and the likes while still being able to access toilet facilities if required.

Existing Electric grass tent bookings will be on a 10 m x 4 m pitch. It is the clients responsibility to ensure their tent, guy lines and awning fit in this space.

The campsite features 2 Glamping Pods. Sitting outside the pods, facing southwards you look out over the farmland and have direct views to the ancient monument on the site. Each insulated and heated pod sleeps up to two people. There is a small kitchen unit with a sink, a kettle and a toaster. Toilet and shower facilities are close by. All Pods are strictly pet free. No exceptions.

Accessible through a gate from the campground, you and your four-legged friend can take a stroll through the nature park. Walk around the pond and sit and enjoy the views. Dogs are welcome to walk off the lead in this nature park, but we ask the owners to look after their four-legged friends at all times. It goes without saying to please clean up after your dog.

In the pond there are gold fish and many frogs. Fishing this pond is not allowed however feel free to enjoy a refreshing swim.

I had a lovely 10 day stay at Barrow on a fully serviced site. On arrival Ifound my vans grey waste water exit points were a bit to far away and was struggling to get them closer. had a word with Garry, who had a length of waste pipe that he let me use (Sorted). other than that my stay was excellent, showers and toilets always very clean and in good order. The site is a little open to the elements, especially the wind if it gets up. but all in all an excellent site that I will be using again when I'm up that way.

Really enjoyed our relaxing stay at Barrow Campsite. The site is very well maintained and beautifully laid out with large, well spaced, level pitches. The facilities are modern and spotlessly clean. Our dog loved the pond and the surrounding walks. Friendly owner and staff made staying at Barrow a pleasure.

Great place to stay.

Schrijver, Marinus - 21/06/2025

We arrived without reservation. Late in the afternoon. The warden came, after calling him. Without any problem. As we were moving on, with a time schedule, we only stayed 1 night. The facilities were clean and complete. All we needed was there. We had a warm wellcome. And we really felt being welcome. From there, we moved on to the Culloden Battlefield and went looking for Nessie. When we will return to the UK, the Barrow Campsite will be defenitly be on our list.

Stayed here on my ten night motorcycle North Coast 500 trip in June 2025 and cannot recommend this campsite enough.Immaculate, brand new and well maintained facilities. Excellent setting, quiet and peaceful with excellent views of the countryside.Lots of picnic benches which was much appreciated as I arrived by motorcycle. Was allocated a pitch number in my booking confirmation but could not see any numbers when I arrived and the office had closed for the day. Fortunately it was not busy. Perfect 4G Vodafone signal.
