Akebar Park

4.3 (73 reviews)

One of the best touring caravan parks the Yorkshire Dales has to offer, Akebar Park is the most exceptional family-friendly park. We’re proud to have one of the best pubs in Wensleydale, ‘The Friars Head’, onsite. Not only that, but our stunning holiday park also boasts a golf course and great park facilities, making it one of the best parks in North Yorkshire.

Akebar Park has been run by the same family for over 50 years and is a family-friendly touring site, ideal for touring caravans and motorhomes, with plenty of space for children to enjoy and with outstanding views over the open countryside.

Akebar Park's touring site is a great space for your family holiday, offering grass pitches with electric hook-up, along with a well-equipped children’s play area. The touring field has toilets and showers, washing up areas and chemical waste disposal facilities. We have an onsite shop with basic supplies, and larger supermarkets are located within just a 10-minute drive from Akebar. What’s more, our staff are always on hand to help you have an amazing time – so it’s really no wonder that we’re considered one of the best holiday parks in Yorkshire!

We are an award-winning park and have been awarded the David Bellamy Conservation Gold Award by the British Holiday & Home Parks Association. The award shows that as a park we have taken steps to manage our land as a haven for wildlife; reduce our use of energy and water; reduce, reuse and recycle the waste we produce and support our local community. We have also featured in the Top 100 Sites in recent years.

All customers must report to reception on arrival, where we will be happy to check you in and let you know where your pitch is. Our wardens will be on hand to guide you and help you settle in. Our guests always enjoy their stay here, as we’re an ideal base for walking, cycling and fishing.

Lovely caravan park. Maybe touring site a little untidy. Rest of the park very well maintained. Staff friendly from reception to sales guys. We never tried restaurant or pub so can't comment. We stayed in a 'Wensleydale(pet friendly) static. It was nice n clean with everything we needed. There's a huge open dog walking field nearby caravan so was perfect. Would recommend a stay here.If price is right we'll be back. Thanks David S.

Lovely site!

Lockett, Rebecc - 27/06/2025

We stay at Akebar park regularly we find the location really convenient and the site well kept clean and perfect for our needs! Usually we don’t venture to the friars head onsite but we did for the children’s disco this time and it was fantastic, thoroughly enjoyed by all 3 of my children and me and my husband. The ample space for ball games and the well kept and multi age park is ideal.the pitches are well spaced with good size area at the side of each van even with an awning up! We had some car trouble this time leading to us having to speak to the owners regarding removing our caravan and they couldn’t have been more helpful! Regular visitors and have no plans in changing that :)

Great location

Gibson, Julie - 23/06/2025

The site is mainly aimed at static rentals and owners, we were on a lovely area for touring vans. It was very quiet during our stay and the weather was amazing. Whilst the park was immaculate the shower / toilet facilities need an upgrade. It was like a swimming pool when shower inf. I would not like to use the facilities on a busy time . The facilities are shared with seasonal caravans, so only 4 showers and 4 toilets in each side may not be enough. The location of the site is great and the pub/restaurant could not be faulted with lovely helpful staff.

Close to beautiful 11th C church of St Andrew

Dobson, Graham - 23/06/2025

Our first time at Akebar. Booked two nights in our campervan and we're allocated the spot nearest the toilet/showers/wash up. We came Monday and it was very quiet on site, which suits us perfectly. We were on St Andrew's field, next to the beautiful old church of that name which is set out with reasonably level numbered gravelled pitches. The touring section is at the back of the site, about a slow and pleasant ten minute walk through well landscaped and maintained area of static caravans. There are a number of folly type structures at the entrance to the site which enhance the appearance of the park. Next to these are the shop, reception and the excellent pub, the Friar's Head. We didn't eat at the Friar's Head as we had brought a lot of food but the reports we heard from other campers and caravan nets were very positive. The staff were friendly and efficient. There was a good choice of ales and lagers etc.On our second of two days we discovered on a walk up to

Weekend break

Wright, Graham - 19/06/2025

The site has well kept grounds but the shower block could do with updating. The pitches are a reasonable size but could do with being level. Good dog walking field and nice walk to the pub.

Happy overall and returning shortly

Whitfield, Wayne - 19/06/2025

All in all it was a good stay, and we’re returning in a few weeks. The pitch we had previously was very uneven to the point where we struggled. If it wasn’t for the 4 house bricks that I located I would have been stumped. The legs were fully extended and it was still 100mm short. Also, my wife and others commented on how cold the showers were at certain times. When I went they were actually too hot but you can’t satisfy everyone. We really enjoyed the weekend and looking forward to going back.
