Park Description

We provide camping at two locations around the farmhouse hub facilities; a Certified Location Caravan & Camping Club site with hard standing for five units accessed through the Yorkshire Dales National Park Car Park, meadowland tent pitches for tents and trailers by the river and Dales Way footpath behind the farmhouse, and two comfortable camping pods.

The National Trust bought Heber Farm in 1994 to help preserve it as the last working farm in the village.

Tenanted by us since then, the farm keeps us busy with 600 sheep, plus cattle including a developing herd of Belted Galloways. As hill farming becomes less able to survive commercially in today’s economy the new herd provides a more viable breed, naturally equipped to live outdoors without the costs associated with indoor accommodation and feeding.

Garry is on the steering group for the Yorkshire Dales National Park looking at ‘higher nature farming’ practices as a means to long term sustainable farming methods that benefit the environment.

It’s the second time we have stayed here and brought our dog too. The pods are great and the facilities are too plus a dog wash area. It is easy to find with great views and good location to head straight out onto the hills or to the next villages. The only thing I would say is the second time we stayed 5 months later you could tell it had had its first season with ware and tear which I’m sure the owners will carry out work during low season. This will not put us off further visits next year as it’s to be expected. It’s a smallish and intermit place almost like a hidden gem with very welcoming owners.

"Lovely site"

Ms S Griffith-Jones - Stayed with partner, Oct 2018

Very helpful, friendly owners; beautiful place, fantastic walks, local pub ok. Slightly awkward siting for camper vans due to hilly terrain in field.

We set up out VW camper + awning and a little later was greeted by a lovely lady who gave us information on the site and the local area. This site is situated in one of the most beautiful places in England. Lots of walks for all ages, experience and fitness. It also has a lovely short walk by a stream to take the dog. We didn’t move off site for the 5 nights of our stay, as we were more than happy to explore locally on foot on this occasion. We stayed on a small piece of Buckden Campsite that had 5 hard standing plots. At first we had to servey to see which was the better way to park up and set up, as the ground was slopping and had undulations. We are seasoned campers and pack for every eventually. With the large ramps I carry, we got our level without too much manoeuvring. The grass wasn’t cut as you may expect, and there was quite a lot of sheep poo about. What you have to remember is that this site is farm land, so expect it to be a little rough around the edges. Of the 5 hard standings I would say that only 2, maybe 3 were flat enough for an awning. The washing and shower facilities at the farm over the road were good, but on the small site there aren’t any toilets. So it’s a little walk if you don’t have a loo of your own. Please don’t let my review put you off. Although a little basic, this is a lovely campsite and suited our needs perfectly, and very reasonably priced including electric. It’s in a fantastic part of the country, with ample foody pubs within close proximity, and a great little shop. I will defiantly be returning to Buckden Campsite.
