Castle Cary Holiday Park

77 Reviews

Park Description

For that quiet and relaxing holiday in the heart of romantic Galloway. Castle Cary has much to offer, and constantly adds to and improves its facilities year after year. We can now offer a range of seasonal timber clad lodges and winterised all season holiday homes.

At the centre of our holiday park lies an old Scottish baronial-style castle dating from around 1580. The Laird’s Inn, converted from part of the old castle, is most welcoming with it’s ‘olde worlde’ charm, created by a décor of wooden beams, stone walls and open fires.

On a sunny day you can sit, drink, eat and relax on its large terrace, enjoying magnificent panoramic views over fields, woodlands and the estuary of the river Cree.

A comprehensive range of facilities and activities awaits you on site. We have normal hard-standing pitches with electricity and water connections for tourers or Super Deluxe touring pitches with drainage, TV aerial connection, dyke or fence and hedge separation.

We have a range of 2 and 3 rental accommodation available for nightly stays (3 night minimum stay). Some of our units are pet friendly.

Opening Dates

Open all year.

"Great stay marred by shower blocks"

Can't fault the overall experience. Quiet time of year and peaceful. Would be good to be able to choose tourer plot. Lucky this time. Toilets very clean and tidy. Shower block very unappealing. Lucky this time. Toilets very clean and tidy. Shower block very unappealing. Thick black mold covering all side's of shower tray. Wore flip flops and used bath mat. Can't say it was due to end of season as my friend was there in August and she wouldn't shower!

The caravan was clean and tidy and the actual caravan site is in a brilliant location with lots of beaches and activities near by. Before our stay we looked up the castle Cary website and the children were excited to see that there was an on site swimming pool. Also advertised was a shop, a cafe and an entertainment/games room. We stayed at the site for four nights and all of this was completely closed up, with nobody around to ask about opening times. Although the pool had said it would be open on the Friday afternoon it was closed with nobody around which made for very disappointed children. I was shocked to see that the shop/cafe was not open our entire stay. I have never stayed on a camp site where there is not a shop open for at least some of the time to get some basics. Through the windows we could see lots of arcade games and pool tables however again, this was closed during our entire 5 day stay and we were unable to gain access to the facilities advertised. There was a mini golf course on the grounds however this was dirty and covered with plants and tree debris. Access to the golf clubs was also through the shop which as stated was closed the entire time. Overall, we are very disappointed with the facilities on offer. The site is lovely and in a beautiful location, it’s just such a shame about the poor management of the falsely advertised on site facilities and activities. We will be trying somewhere else next time we visit Dumfries and Galloway.

"Renovation"

I think the site could do with bringing the shower area and swimming pool up to date, toilets were OK and the Lairds Inn was good.

"Dissappointed"

Mrs C McCrorie - Stayed with family, Sep 2018

Advertised amusements shop crazy golf etc ... few arcade machines didnt work. Shop hardly any stock no sweets or milk. These were only open saturday/sunday. Didnt use indoor pool as remember from last time that it is quite deep. Outdoor pool was green!! Crazy golf... Advertised amusements shop crazy golf etc ... few arcade machines didnt work. Shop hardly any stock no sweets or milk. These were only open saturday/sunday. Didnt use indoor pool as remember from last time that it is quite deep. Outdoor pool was green!! Crazy golf was shocking very untidy and messy. Playpark is same as when we first started touring 12 years ago only suitable for young kids. Whole site not kept tidy. Wont be back. Its such a shame as used to be a really busy park and we went on a long weekend it was like a ghost town. In the right hands could be a great place. Only difference that was for the better was the new road into park.

Lovely, picturesque site. We visited out of season. Very friendly, helpful staff. Toilet block facilities need updating but they were clean. Nice warm showers.

The park and it's facilities were excellent. Due to disabilities the park were able to accommodate us, by providing a pick closer to facilities.
