Castle Cary Holiday Park

95 Reviews

Park Description

For that quiet and relaxing holiday in the heart of romantic Galloway. Castle Cary has much to offer, and constantly adds to and improves its facilities year after year. We can now offer a range of seasonal timber clad lodges and winterised all season holiday homes.

At the centre of our holiday park lies an old Scottish baronial-style castle dating from around 1580. The Laird’s Inn, converted from part of the old castle, is most welcoming with it’s ‘olde worlde’ charm, created by a décor of wooden beams, stone walls and open fires.

On a sunny day you can sit, drink, eat and relax on its large terrace, enjoying magnificent panoramic views over fields, woodlands and the estuary of the river Cree.

A comprehensive range of facilities and activities awaits you on site. We have normal hard-standing pitches with electricity and water connections for tourers or Super Deluxe touring pitches with drainage, TV aerial connection, dyke or fence and hedge separation.

We have a range of 2 and 3 rental accommodation available for nightly stays (3 night minimum stay). Some of our units are pet friendly.

Opening Dates

Open all year.

"Camping weekend with freinds"

Anonymous - Stayed with friends, Aug 2019

We always have a fab time no matter the weather but the only downside to the site is definately the shower, toilets and wash up facilities. They can be disgusting at times and having communal is wrong on so many levels.

Good site with lots for kids to do. Toilet and washing facilities are a bit run down.

This is a quiet campsite with well kept surroundings and pitches. Cannot comment on the facilities as we didn't use them on our visit. We stayed in a mobile ho.e that was clean and provided us with everything we needed for a week long stay. The village is a walk away to buy essentials and there are three supermarkets a ten minute drive away. Our second visit and not the last.

Park was fine and motorhome pitch Disable Toilet was dirty, wooding toilet door rotten and had no lock, insignificant grab rails round toilet seat, floor wet and never cleaned, toilet bin never cleaned, no curtain round shower, no mirror on wall, no hot water. This disable toilet needs demolished and rebuilt to a very high standard. Park owners should be ashamed of the state of this disabled toilet and make improvements to the standards of a disable toilet. Would only return to this site if I was informed information regarding state of disable toilet

Overall a great time, only thing was my son went to toilet at midnight while we were asleep n got locked in, the doors are stiff and he was distressed. After 30 mins did get out , but perhaps something to be worked on.

We had to leave just after a few hours due to family needs, however, we were seriously disappointed with this site, the approach car park laid out with cheap hard core stones started warning bells before we even got out our van but the reception area was at the other end of the scales and so modern looking more like the entrance to a private clinic or hotel, the staff were nice, handed us a glossy brochure at directed us to the bay we were allocated. As we were driving round to find our pitch we were less than impressed, the park looked untidy and the pitches were more like pens. Arriving at our allocated fenced in bay we were greeted with yet cheaper ankle twisting hard core stones with no outlook except a great big conifer tree. We walked round the site and thought it in dire need of a complete make-over and a great deal of money spent on it to make it anything like a quality site instead of a place that is down on its heels. Although the pool would be a hit with young families and children had plenty room to play but we were less than enamoured with the neglected site, filthy ashtrays outside the bar, crazy golf area a complete wreck and pitches like pig pens. We paid £50.00 for our stay in advance but even though we left early we would not have stayed for one night, we found this site to be the most awful we have ever seen and will never come back and most definitely never recommend it to anyone. The glossy brochure and web site images display something so different from this run down disgrace. Do not send any information, share my personal details, and please note I have not ticked any of the below

No lights working in any of the pools changing rooms. Showers blocked. Can’t access the outdoor pool safely, having to walk soaking wet down a slippy corridor and through a cafe where everyone is eating. Reported lights and showers 3 times and still not repaired. Laundry not working the entire time we were there. The only good thing about this park is the pitches. Money really needs to be invested back into the park.

We booked at the beginning of the year for a week to meet up with camping friends who permanently pitch their caravan at this site and were provisionally booked into the pine trees are near the toilet block and play park etc.great having an autistic child with us. On arrival we had been moved to the bay view area as other pitched there had complained about the lack of amenities in the area and had been moved onto our pitch in pine trees, subsequently we were in a field with no toilet block or water taps and had to walk an unreasonable distance to get water or use the toilet. Being told they were fully booked but in the week we were there no-one else pitched in the field we were in as there were plenty of spaces in the pine trees area. Although this field was beautiful and scenic the lack of these facilities made it difficult as we have a child with a neurological disability this meant the park was very far from our pitch and he wasnt able to explore as much as he would have had we been in the original booked pitch. Also disgusted to find out that the people that were moved were only charged £9 per night and we were charged full price of over £20. We will return but will not be allowing them to put us in the overflow field with no amenities.
