Castle Cary Holiday Park

48 Reviews

Park Description

For that quiet and relaxing holiday in the heart of romantic Galloway. Castle Cary has much to offer, and constantly adds to and improves its facilities year after year. We can now offer a range of seasonal timber clad lodges and winterised all season holiday homes.

At the centre of our holiday park lies an old Scottish baronial-style castle dating from around 1580. The Laird’s Inn, converted from part of the old castle, is most welcoming with it’s ‘olde worlde’ charm, created by a décor of wooden beams, stone walls and open fires.

On a sunny day you can sit, drink, eat and relax on its large terrace, enjoying magnificent panoramic views over fields, woodlands and the estuary of the river Cree.

A comprehensive range of facilities and activities awaits you on site. We have normal hard-standing pitches with electricity and water connections for tourers or Super Deluxe touring pitches with drainage, TV aerial connection, dyke or fence and hedge separation.

We have a range of 2 and 3 rental accommodation available for nightly stays (3 night minimum stay). Some of our units are pet friendly.

Opening Dates

Open all year.

The main problem was noise and rowdiness in the tent field at night with no curfew of noise. Large groups meet together and there were kids riding bikes at 2am whilst the parents continue drinking, and having camp fires which was a nuisance. Stay in a caravan or take a motorhome if you want a more restful stay. The area is nice and when the weather is good this campsite provides a good base.

Pitch was excellent (tent with electric hook up), the facilities on the path were good. The shop also does a takeaway menu with a good selection of food. The pools looked good along with the games room. The Lairds Inn has a great menu on offer at very reasonable prices also the bar prices were excellent not ripping off guests. Toilets and shower facilities beside the tent area are shared. Showers not powerful enough if more than one person using the pressure drops plus floors need cleaned more often. But would not put me off going back. Great base to explore the local area. Newton Stewart 5miles away, Galloway Forrrest on its doorstep. We paid a visit to Portpatrick 30 mins drive. Wow what a gem of a fishing village it is small but great bars selling good food and on a good day sit outside overlooking the harbour.

Although our couple of nights stay was good fun and we enjoyed our stay, it was because of the company we had with friends and family. The wash facilities for campers were very dirty and only seemed to be cleaned first thing in the morning, I showered wearing flip flops as all the water seemed to be coming back up from the plug hole and created a large puddle, needless to say I waited to shower again once I got home. The swimming pool changing rooms were absolutely disgusting, I have pictures I can pass on if needed, the water in the pool was filthy, the outdoor pool has sharp chipping a around it which really isn’t ideal for kids in bare feet. Broken screws on the floor of changing room, dodgy toilet locks. I have heard people rave about these facilities and i was honestly shocked when I walked in and seen the state of it. If it hadn’t been for the rest of my friends kids going in to the pool I would have walked back out. Enjoyed dinner at the lairds inn, they managed to serve all 25 of us and was enjoyed by us all. Out door play park good, the kids did seem to have more fun on the tree swing they found in the woods. More electric pitches would be good also. Will return when the cavities have been improved, could be a fantastic park shame these points let it down.
